I got a shift recently and love it. Andy was my favourite when first getting into tennis, so it's cool to see him enjoying the shift as well. Still got it 🙌🙌
Total ledge - love seeing you hit again and wearing the cap, like the old days! Brilliant, inciteful podcast that gives info no other tennis channel does, and for free. Thanks a lot Andy 🎾🙏👍
NGL I kinda wanted them to offer Andy an RF97 Autograph just for the laughs. I was thinking he'd go ultra but it was surprising that he praised the Clash a bit, considering it's a particular racquet. Had he chosen that one he should have gotten the minions painted one :) And I still very much love my nCode 6.1 95 16x18. I can't use it successfully always, but it's such a nice frame to hit with.
Switched to the Shift myself earlier this year, although my game is nothing like Andy's (50+, high 3.5/low 4.0 player, medium swing speed). What has been interesting and challenging to me is that unlike any racket I've previously used, it wants me to take full swings at everything, and gives me more control when I do, and when I remember to do so it has absolutely transformed my backhand (one-hander) from a control dink-and-dunk shot to something I can reliably hit with as much (if not more) topspin as my forehand. Really stands out on both wings with those sharp cross-court angles that I always used to miss, as long as I remember to fully swing. A little less power than the Volkl V8 that I upgraded from and the Head Boom I was demoing at the same time, but the confidence in my shots more than makes up for it.
Nice! I'd love to see more fresh tennis action like this with Andy Roddick on "Served". Some serve tutorials would be great; I bet those would quickly become the most popular on the channel.
Great racket but love the hat. It's really good to be Andy Roddick right now. Great career as a tennis player. Great podcaster and tennis consultant. Keep on shining!
I bought the shift a month ago from Wilson. Beautiful racket incredible spin perfect for my aggressive baseline play and I have never felt so confident in my serve and forehand. My backhand may be less consistent than all my other shots but it truly helped with keeping the ball in on those defensive points.
Well, hands can become quite dead with that one for sure! 🤣 Some of my friends and I developed golfer's elbow from using stiff Babolat racquets like the Pure Drive and Strike. The Wilson Shift does seem quite stiff also because of the Ra rating, but its innovative lateral bending tech make it friendlier on the arm.
Agreed. A few years ago I tried it without knowing its specs, I couldn't hit a ball properly because it's so heavy. I've tried it again recently and loved it. I'll demo the new Pure Drive tour. The specs are different but I hope it would be similar to the Roddick version.
Andy I grew up watching you play and you were my favorite player on tour until you retired. First "good " racket I wanted was the pure drive team plus haha. So cool to see you hitting Wilson's line up and nice choice in the shift. Hope to see you playing an exo or champions tour or even a posted set with it soon. So cool . All the best
What Andy said about the Pro Staff, is exactly how I feel about my Pro Staff RF 97. It's like it has a guidance system, telling you what you did wrong every time you don't hit perfectly. I love it.
wilson shift pro v1 is a beast. earlier i used blx then pro staff RF in the last 15 years but shift elevates your game to another level. Arm friendly spin clearing the net at sufficient height is a banger. 18x20 pattern takes a while to adjust but once you do it is gonna make your opponent bleed. Have been using shift for seven months and have not looked back since then. Trust me this racket is indeed an extension of your arm and you will sense it while playing.

Loving the podcasts. Please can you explain when he talked about setting up the racket for how you liked it what did he mean by this? Are we talking, just strings and tensions or is he adding weight to it? Also do you prefer a balanced or head heavy racket?
They meant matching Andy's preferred "specs," which are the grip size, overall mass and swingweight, by selectively adding weight to the stock rackets in key areas until they fall within a certain range for that individual player. If a player likes one particular frame their preferred specs might also restrict the balance point and twist weight of the racket as well, narrowing in on fewer and fewer variables until they land on an idealized setup that will be matched identically whenever they get a full new set of frames. For a playtest like this with a variety of models, they probably just matched the swingweight and grips and gave every frame the same strings and reference tension. All modern rackets are substantially headlight, when players talk about something being relatively "headlight" vs "head-heavy" they're contrasting something that's 9 points headlight with something that's 4 points headlight. No one has used a legitimately head-heavy setup since Moya.
