The way Rue walks across the set before she says "I just hate you." THAT'S ACTING. The writers created these lines but the physicality of these actresses is a comic master class.
My favorite line is during the funeral scene: WOMAN: "I am not about to mourn a man who's slept with every woman in this room." DOROTHY: "He was never with me!" WOMAN: "...I guess even he had his standards." ROFL, so wicked; cracks me up everytime. ♥
it's hard to believe these shows when they make a joke about a character being ugly - u hear they're ugly, then u see bea arthur, and the joke feels weird, less believable. suspension of disbelief can only take so much punishment
When this first aired on NBC in 1987 or so, I was 10 and watched it with my grandmother who was in her 70s at the time and up until then I had never seen her truly burst out laughing but she did and it startled me 🤗😱 and I was laughing too! RIP Maw Maw and Betty White ♥️♥️♥️
I just love how disappointed Sophia is when she remembers that its Dorothy and not Blanche who's her daughter ("Oh right, the pretty, popular one isn't my offspring, its *you*.").
Which is rich, given how Dorothy treated her far better than she deserved, with how verbally and emotionally abusive Sophia often was. I don't blame Dorothy one bit for leaving the old witch in Shady Pines;)
I had a family friend who couldn't watch THE GOLDEN GIRLS, because she thought that Sophia was toxic for Dorothy. She said Sophia showed some signs of narcissistic personality disorder. (Yes, she's a therapist.)
Your friend has a good point, although I think she's taking it slightly too seriously, given how this is all just for comedy. And of course, one could argue that Dorothy sometimes was a bit of a bully towards Sophia, especially how she was constantly threatening her with Shady Pines. For me, personally, any so-called abuse between the four was evened out by the fact that they all stood up to one another, and they always had each other's backs when it counted. Even Sophia would get rather protective of Dorothy whenever she thought her pussycat was in danger: in the episode where they thought the new housekeeper had put a curse on them, when Sophia found out and realized how scared Dorothy was, she almost immediately confronted the housekeeper and even made it clear she'd curse her right back. XD Now THAT'S a protective mother for you!
Timmy Leonard: Luckily for her, she was respected enough not to get hurt. Do you know that a smart-ass answer can get you SERIOUSLY injured? But, yes, on this GEM of a show, it's refreshing.
i've always loved the relationships between the 4 ladies, how they talked to each other, how their interactions with each member of the household differed for example, everyone thinks rose is an idiot, and condescend to her because of that, but look at the subtle differences between how they treat her: dorothy is motherly, treats her like a clueless child, someone who has to be taken care of, while blanche treats her more of as an equal - or as much of an equal as she can treat anyone. they're like sisters in that way. sometimes their opposite personalities and cultural upbringings turn their relationship into a bit of a rivalry dorothy's relationship with blanche is also somewhat sisterly, but there is a much more pronounced element of rivalry given the similar culture clash between southern belle and new york yankee, and the two of them not being as easy to push around as rose is. there's also the underlying jealousy the two have of each other's superiority in their respective fields of expertise, with dorothy constantly reminded of blanche's sexual prowess, and blanche very mildly jealous of dorothy's intellectual ability - but this is blanche, so "very mildly" in her mind translates to "social hindenburg" IRL then there's sophia. she has a motherly love-hate relationship with her daughter, which is always fun to watch. in her second childhood, the tables have turned, and now she acts as both her daughter's mother and ward. sophia's a dependent of everyone in the house, and yet a respected source of guidance and leadership and constant humiliation. she has a similar relationship with rose as dorothy does, and a slight bit of consternation with blanche, frivolous and bizarre as she always is
According to the trivia Golden Girls book that was released earlier this year, the entire Golden Girls set was moved to another studio, by the third season so the Golden Girls set was moved to another studio, so I think that is why the set looks smaller compared to the first two seasons the set looked bigger.
I can't tell you how grateful I am to you for downloading The Golden Girls! They helped me through the CovidLockdown, then trying to get one's life back on track, to find it doesn't - not like it used to be. So the series keeps me able to cope, especially as the writer is not scared to tackle all subjects, from old age, poverty etc. Thank you very much.
@@musicaltheatergeek79 He's also age-appropriate, not in a wheelchair, and most likely still sexually active. So, to these ladies, he's a hottie worth fighting for.
@musicaltheatergeek79 Blanhe just doesn't like the idea of there being a man she can't have --- regardless of whether he's too old or young or whether she finds him attractive or not. Her ego just can't handle not being able to conquer every member of the male species --- aside from gay ones 😆!
I always felt part of the reason Blanche did so well with men was because she often dated SUPER OLD guys. Especially for someone who is not only in her 50s, BUT FEELS like she is in her 40s and she be dating men consistently 60s+
Lie in enough water to cover my perky boosom. I still don't watch The Golden girls anymore, but only because my interest in television has decreased as I've gotten older. I used to watch The Golden girls all day everyday. It's funny, the Golden girls was one of the very few television shows that has aired on television since it began. I long ago memorized almost every episode and can watch and quote them verbatim. I also watch unlimited fashion because of memories. Life is ever changing and you never know where you'll be in a year or who will be in your life. Yet, those four ladies were always around. Regardless of where I lived I was talking to be at family, friends, boyfriends etc those girls remained a constant in my life. It's probably sad in thought, but everywhere I lived they were around. We used to watch as a family when I was younger. When my parents divorced I used to watch it in Greenfield. I lost my family I watched it then too and I remembered watching it when I was younger. I always cry when the show ends in the two part special. 30 some odd years old and the waterworks flow just as soon as Dorothy begins saying goodbye and coming in each door of the house. Her final words of thank you mirror my thoughts on the show and how I feel about those ladies myself. and my family I'm notorious for watching The Golden girls cuz I watched it constantly for years and of course as I said memorized the words. my sister-in-law got me Golden girls bobbleheads that are my bedroom that I haven't taken out of the container yet. 🤣 I absolutely love the Golden girls and it is the first television show I ever watched in memory. Sophia burned the hell out of Blanche in this scene. Rest in peace, my lovelies.💕💔

Yes. The writers make the lines but it's up to the actors to execute it and she did more than that. I thought she was gonna hit her lol
Blanches anger at someone down playing or completely denying her sex appeal is one of the funniest parts of the show.
she put herself in danger of getting killed by some convict because of that!
Gorgeous, gorgeous, GORGEOUS!!... and stupid, stupid, stupid...
And when Rose said she had 56 "boyfriends" in one year of high school.
