I've read into this phenomena, and my understanding is that an XX chromosome body is more resistant to flu symptoms because it's capable of hosting an unborn child, which makes the immune system much more protective. Where as anyone with an XY body is more "disposable" in terms of evolution, and therefore weaker immunity against symptoms.
Kristen Johnson was born to play this role. Her expressions are so natural, enthusiastic, fearless, and earnest. Her energy, timing, and physical humor are all amazing. She's my fave!
She sadly had a drug or alcohol problem- I can't remember which. It's sad she had issues as she was very talented. I think she recovered which is great though.
You're right, but in a way it's better that we were left with great memories wishing there had been more, rather than having them make more and more episodes to the point that it had lost its delightful nuance and originality. So many sitcoms are let to run for too many seasons with the result that we mostly remember how stale and boring they ended up being; definitely not the case with 3rd Rock.
We haven’t seen writing this good in a long time. This show deeply resonated with the viewing audience because the topics were so perfect for the times. And Kristen Johnson….❤️🤪
@@pxrays547 I'm actually not fat and rather thin for my age, but my wife says that I should cut down on all that ice cream. Just genetics, I guess. No one in my famiiy is overweight.

"If I don't like the ones with wings they'll make one with a propeller." 🤣🤣🤣 Sally stalking couples at lovers lane and every other scene where she tries to understand being a woman is written so hilariously. This show is comedy gold.
I did and I couldn’t turn off the TV. I was a kid when it was on air and my mom watched it back then and I never understood until I got into adulthood. So funny
This show, 3rd Rock From The Sun, was hilarious. One of the best TV comedies ever. What made is so interesting is that prior to being on this show John Lithgow play really really bad guys in movies. He was always a mean f'er of a villain. So when I heard he was starring in a TV comedy I didn't think he could pull it off, but man oh man was I wrong. :)
In "World according to Garp" he played a transgender woman. His comedic personality was subtle but present in that movie. Also when he cross dressed in an episode to find out what goes on in Mary's woman's group, that was reminiscent of his Garp's character. But, in Dick Solomon way.
It's hard to see him as anything but this character when I see him in those old movies, was it Cliffhanger with Stallone that he played the bad guy? Even after 3rd Rock when he was in Dexter as a bad guy I could only see this
My my favorite "Sally/Donn" moment is when they meet.... There's this tango that begins... A pure passion between them.... Anyone watching knew that they would be together...
I love that line “Have the urge to have a eight pound screaming larva rip its way out of your lower abdomen.” It’s such a truthful yet brutal way to describe child birth and motherhood. I suspect most aliens would consider human childbirth a horror show.
I love the part where she points out being a woman is hard not only because of bilogical issues like hormones, but also the objectification and sexualization. We have a thousand things to worry about when it comes to our bodies and our health and our lives. We are the creators and curators of life, And yet we are treated as if an article of clothing to wear and toss when we show some aging. Personally my life improved when at 22 I gained 30 lbs. In my "prime" when I was supposed to be the most "sex-able" I became unsexy by definition. When I lost the "desired image of perfection" I actually gained my freedom. Catcalls in the street stopped. Men following me as I walked stopped. People hitting me up on social media for sex stopped. The way people treated me was less "worship" and more genuine humaness. I met a man who I'm nearly two years into a relationship with. I'm fixing my mental health. I even started regularly working out. This time, if/when I lose the weight and become "desirable" again, I'll be facing it with the mind that the world is disgusting. The way society treats women is disgusting. But my self worth is not tied to my desirability. I accept myself and love myself. There should be no one else inside our worth beyond ourselves.
@AmberW28, in a world where (for example) women openly reject men for being short in stature, I don’t understand how so many women act as if physical objectification is something that’s unique to being a woman. This type of low self-awareness is a key reason that more men are becoming skeptical of the merits of modern feminism.
The premise for this show was among the best for a sitcom ever conceived. How better to poke fun at contemporary human society than through the lens of characters who are not member of our society? I don't think I ever missed a single episode when it was on the air, and I can only say that about one other show. And my favorite line from any show ever was Sally's at the very end of these clips. "I can handle the mood swings, the emotional issues, the cat calls, the punitive underwear ... because frankly, when I think of the alternative I just have to laugh." Whenever I see a twenty-something wearing something stupid and impractical in an effort to look sexy, I think of this line.
You wrote your comment 2 years ago, but thought you might find this interesting. I'm not autistic and watched 3rd Rock from the Sun growing up and it certainly reminded me often of my autistic father's surprise at learning some of humanity's odder quirks. The difference in focal preference really comes through in behavioral observations of other people, and frankly it's hilarious. There's a lot of great, good-humored comedy to be found. He thinks most humans are bizarre, and he's right.
I got the entire series because of Sally, well not entirely, but mainly, the entire cast are just epic in their own rolls, John Lithgow does love struck leader with no shame so well, Tommy, does the older man stuck in a teenagers body to perfection, & no one can pull off a turkey headdress like Harry. And as for us as a species, I regret that I have had to explain to more than one person why the show is called what it is.
I met someone sick & tired of corporate training where they do the lets go round the circle & tell the group something interesting about yourself. She used the "every lunar cycle my uterine lining sloughs itself". HR stopped doing their go to, get to know you "opener". 😂
Whoever was responsible for casting this show, was an absolute genius! I have one or two favourites in every show, but not in 3rd Rock.... it's impossible to pick out even one!
This show was so original. It's insight one gets when looking at something, anything with fresh eyes for the first time without any preconceived notions or connotation. Simply reactions not jaded by overused observation. It's fun to laugh at the concepts.

"3 below" was an animated series on Netflix. Guillermo Del Toro created it. The aliens became overlooked humans: a senior citizen (a geezer), a Hispanic teenager and teenage girl.
There were literally half a dozen other shows with pretty much the same plot airing regularly. Aliens, robot/cyborgs, adopted black kids. All the same.
