Call this one the 'definitive live performance' of ROUTE 66. The intuitive genius that is TH-cam circa 2021 just sent this my way - a 'live in Paris' performance of by the singer Frank Sinatra declared “the only true genius in the business” (the business of singing). You'd never know that “most of Ray's band” was still back in L.A or in transit - and that Ray was improvising so the show could go on. Program note: Ray playfully breaks the rhyme pattern by saying Saint Louis, instead of Saint Louie.

What a dead audience. Ray barely got a rise out of them with that dirty, nasty solo. I thought Paris had taste.
c'est une honte de voir ray charles jouer sur un piano numérique de merde! Honte aux producteurs et organisateurs de la soirée!! C'est honteux, méprisant pour un tel génie..
Ecoute le solo de Ray, il joue des effets spéciaux du piano de merde comme un dieux.. Du reste, le piano de m.. (un yamaha kx) je le veux bien ds mon salon. Je te signale que l on fait de choses geniales en pianos "numeriques". Faut te renseigner mon gars. Avant, il a joué sur des pianos "rhodes" de son plain gré... et ce n'etait pas des Pleyel
Et ne pas oublier non plus que ce concert est improvisé de bout en bout : tout son orchestre était bloqué suite à des grèves en Espagne je crois. Ray a dit à son producteur qu'il était hors de question d'annuler l'Olympia et à monter à la va-vite ce quartet. Des lors, ce concert devient exceptionnel...
