A Playthrough of Survival Horror and Surviving a Playthrough Horror. Failing QTEs and blaming the AI. Cheap Instant deaths and missing obvious cutscene dialogue.
I promised a TIHYDP for RE5 a long time ago, it was a poll winner. I didn't do the original, but thankfully I was able to endure this gem. Enjoy.

Great Mama Jagras you know, a part of me wishes Sheva would just shoot Chris (our Philly-boy) the same way Luis killed Leon if you shoot him too much in RE 4.
It's not even her fault. There's no real reason to outright hate Sheva beyond the AI, and while I get frustrated with her from time to time, I'm still aware that it's the game's fault and not her own. It happens when you play as her too; Chris' partner AI is no different from Sheva's. I'm kind of bummed that she never appeared again, and if that's because of the complaints about her AI, I am gonna slap Phyl since he contributed to her reputation.

I think that was an asshole hypocrite thing to do. It would have been funny if Phyl didn't put me in a bad mood. The AI is problematic, sure, but Phyl's selfishness only made the experience even worse.
As a huge fan of this game, this was very hard to watch.
I'm not that much a fan of this game, but I still was satisfied with my time with it. And even I was insulted.

Fun very little known thing about this game. Sheva actually has a trust level that can increase when doing things like thanking her when she saves you or complimenting her shooting. It can also lower I believe when you are greedy with your ammo or consistently take a long time to rescue them multiple times.
If it’s higher I think they tend to rescue you faster and share more of their ammo. So she must be at like the lowest trust level with Phil lol
1:12:48 Not only is 9 inventory slots generous. Every single item takes up one slot. That's an anomoly in most RE games where bigger weapons usually take up more than one slot.

That entire sequence is amazing how the ai looks back and forth at him like “really?” (I’m not using the second word but you’ve all seen the vine you know I’m referencing.)
At least Phil made one smart move. Giving Sheva the sniper rifle will be his best decision all game

He'd never survive this on Veteran. He'd rage quit on the first boss since you have to burn it 3 times. Also, I love how he thinks any sort of pre-colonial civilization didn't have any potential for focusing the sun

Everytime he passed up a melee opportunity I died a little bit inside
He has the aiming speed of an 80y old grandma. No surprise that he has so much trouble with the boss fights, especially Jill. You'd expect that "one of the overall best gamers in the country" is able to properly control an analog stick.

I love all the times Sheva says "You need to be careful!" It's like she's talking directly to Phil hahaha. Which she pretty much is, since poor Chris is being controlled by him.
She says that a lot to me too, but unlike Phyl, I at least accept some of the blame for not strategizing.
My god, I'm really familiar in the TIHYDP videos but.... For this game there really isn't any reason for him to be this bad. I beat this game when I was 14, with not many issues either!! Philip never surprises me with his ineptitude.

I was 19 when RE 5 came out, pretty easy to beat, and unlike Phil here, had an easier time managing my items...well, except I also remember being killed by Reapers...Uggh, that wasn't pretty.
Fuck Reapers, man! I'd take Iron Maiden any day of the week over those godawful monstrosities.
+DJ Weapon Man, the Iron Maidens were awesome in RE 4! As for the Reapers, at least you can instantly stun them with Acid Rounds with a Grenade Launcher...or with an infinite Rocket Launcher. 😉
Lmao I beat this game when I was 11. It really isn't that hard of a game. The AI can be a pain sometimes.

Worth the 20 dollar by for sure, I already have infinite ammo for half the weapons :)
Say what you want about RE5, but at least it's got a whole bunch of bonus content you can keep yourself occupied with. Costumes, infinite ammo toggles, filters, end-game weps, figurines, collectibles - I really miss having those in games.
Yeah, it has a better replay/farming/inventory system than 4, and better gameplay structure than 6. Very nice.
Use sheva and the bow, it might lack a sight, but goddamn that bow is a boss slaughterer! I killed the first uroboros monster with like, twenty arrows on veteran way back when. well worth the 50 k it costs for the damage. well, plus the skorpion upgrades to unlock it.

Phil saying that a game sucks when he playing badly isn't meant to be taken literally. It's just him getting worked up in some particular moment. Many people get worked up when they're failing at something and then they say it sucks, but that doesn't mean they truly believe that thing actually sucks. Think of it as an emotional response.
For example, Phil has died almost a thousand times across all of the Souls games, so you'd think that he'd hate the series with a passion. Yet he continues to buy them and beat them regardless of how well he does.

He actually sounded VERY laudatory after finishing Silent Hill 2, as the credits were rolling. And I'm pretty sure he liked the first two seasons of Telltale's Walking Dead. He also recorded two playthroughs of The Last of Us (original and remastered) because he apparently liked it so much...he also seemed to kinda understand what was going on in the last scene of that game, which is something of a surprise considering his limited attention span. Resident Evil Code: Veronica also...I remember him commenting at one point near the end that he was really enjoying it, despite his horrible resource management and that fucking hilarious struggles he had with the Tyrant plane fight and the Nosferatru boss.
I'd say the bad Super Turbo console port. He managed to win at a smaller local EVO tournament in 2005. That is probably the only game he was actually successful in.
I can't remember where I heard it; but Phil did acknowledge one of his favourite games was Heavy Rain.
Which is not surprising, considering Heavy Rain pretty much tells the player what to do during gameplay!

I like RE5 too :P Personally, I like to pretend the series ended there, cos it gives a sort of wrap up to everything that it started with (Wesker finally getting killed, Chris and Jill being brought back for the instalment, the Umbrella Corp being brought down and its true origins and motivations revealed). Not to mention, it gives a somewhat happy/hopeful ending for the characters.

So is anyone else like me and really enjoyed the game? I know a lot of people talk shit about it because it 'strays away from what Resident Evil is', but aside from that, I couldn't see anything really wrong with it. The graphics were nice, the gameplay was solid - if a bit repetitive at times - and the story... well, let's face it - Resident Evil has always had corny plots and dialogue, so can't really fault it there.
Actually, I liked this one for (mostly) keeping the horror elements from 4 (mostly in the starting town, the village with the guys in masks, and the part with lickers (There may be more, I haven't played in a year or two and I'm only at the village in the HD remaster)) it's just it got to the point where there was more action than horror later on, which ended up leading into 6 (which I don't hate, but I do feel should've had quite a bit more horror). And in terms of gameplay, this game is so fun for me it's pretty much addictive.
Same as above, I liked how it started out, and while certain parts of the later portion of the game were fine, it generally boiled down into action with clunky controls. Nonetheless, still an amazing game, love it to death, but 4 is the best Action/Horror Hybrid of the series IMO. I love farming ammo and stuff in this game though.
Good game, but definitely a (moderate) departure from classic RE formula.

+The 0utsyder Yeah, I agree, though to be honest I think RE5's mercenaries was better than 4's. Love that mode. To be honest I wouldn't mind another game like 4 after RE7, because while I like the horror direction 7 is taking, I'll also miss Leon and Ada and Chris and all the other previous characters from the series.
Also, if Phil does the RE4 PS4 remaster when it comes out this fall, will you handle that TIHYDP as well?
Most likely, but I doubt he'll play that, he played RE4 like a year or two ago, so it's pretty recent, unlike his original RE5 playthrough.
It's crazy how he almost never uses melee attacks. He acts like someone who has never played any RE or SH game before, but he's played a ton of them.

I'll look into it after I finish up my other current projects, and some ones I'm planning to do soon. I don't know much about Yakuza 4/5 (or anything really) so It would be a more general TIHYDP rather than one that I'm familiar with the game on.
TL; DR Good suggestion, duly noted, will look into it and see what happens.

Yeah... I Played through RE5 probably as often als RE4, maybe even more. I loved the 2 player feature, just give your friend the second controller and have fun. RE4 was still scarry and you allways felt threatened because of the close up shoulder perspective and all. yes, they werent like the classic games, but it was just a fun game to play through with a friend in a weekend gameing session. the only thing i really hated was how they offed wesker at the end. its seemed so rushed and stupid. anyway i played through the Leon campaign in RE6, what i allready had to push myself to and after that i left the game alone.

Re5 is action horror but like 80% action. Re4 was genuine horror action,
Eh I would almost say RE4 was leaning on 70% action. I wouldn't call those many tense moments horror. It had the advantage of being able to make you alone at times though. The scary moments were still fairly few and far between, you had the invisible bugs, Salazars right hand dude, Regenerators...sure the first time you see a plaga it creeps you out but after you see those guys a million times it gets to be same old. Still had times where you're fending off guys with turrets and guns, all it was missing was a cover mechanic. Despite that though the horror when it was there was done well and I had no issue feeling like an action hero at times lol.
RSE 167 There is ZERO horror in RE4 lol.
