Dino Crisis 1 was a certified classic, and Dino Crisis 2 was a worthy sequel that gets a lot of undeserved hate for being an action game instead of a horror game. I think the move from horror to action was justified, since this would be the second time Regina would face the dinosaurs and has been equipment and support this time around. The same type of survival-panic wouldn't make sense the second time around. Maybe the concept could've been executed better, but Dino Crisis 2 was still a competent and enjoyable entry in the DC franchise. DC 1 and 2 are like Alien and Aliens for me; both good movies with different tones.
Completely agree! It's cliche but the Alien/Aliens comparison really is apt and I think appropriate considering we've seen the dinosaurs and the horror is slightly broken now. Why not give us the chance to get some revenge!
I allways felt dc was best suited that way an resi stay pure horror, mad what they actually went for seems capcom allways wanted this style to begin with an nearly killed re with it , imagine a world wear instead of making re4 how they did and rebooted dc and I reckon the guy in charger of re4 would of done even better work as it fitted his style better , all in all its all good tho
I think this is dead on. Tbh it gets narratively old to regain all your items in metroid (yet another alien inspired franchise). Though I do agree metroid is a very different game altogether
The thing is, the series is not really that great. It's a reskin of resident evil. It is not worth a sequel. It didn't do anything. Games that deserve a sequel are like Godhand, one of the greatest game of all time, developed under a year yet is much of innovation that is still unsurpassed and looks like it will never be thanks to the souls series. The game's dynamic/adaptive difficulty system is so advanced that not even the AI of modern games can come close to it. It was a game that cares about your experience, a game that wants you to be better by actually helping you to be better. Compare that to Dino Crisis, what has Dino Crisis contributed to gaming that it deserves a sequel? Nothing.
What’s crazy is that i accidentally stumbled upon your videos via listening to TH-cam while i sleep and every time i wake up it if your video playing. And now your videos pop up whenever i get on TH-cam or after a video is done. Great work!
I hope that's not too annoying! I feel like the algo really pushes my videos to a few people and I imagine you can get sick of hearing my voice pretty quickly! Glad you enjoyed this one!
Interestingly enough, I am having the same experience. It adamantly brings me here or this Indiana Jones retrospective, or Parasite eve retrospective video.
Here's a comment for the algorithm. It's crazy how you've only been on TH-cam since 2020. I got recommended your Prince of Persia retrospective and when I went to look at your backlog I did a double-take. You're incredibly professional and your insight on games is refreshing. Thanks for making some great content
It's actually even crazier than that! My channel is actually a lot older than my first proper video (which was in September last year). On Christmas day I only had 500 subscribers so it feels like the last 6 months have been a complete blur! Hopefully, I can keep up the momentum. I've got some cool ideas for future videos that I'm really excited to make!
If these big companies can't come up with great new games then I'm all for remaking all these amazing classics. Dino Crises, Prince of Persia, Max Payne, The Suffering, Clock Tower etc etc. So glad Silent Hill 2 remake is coming. Just fingers crossed they don't mess it up.
Well, Bloober Team's ascent seems like they just really, really wanted to land a Silent Hill project. After all, Layers of Fear is an actual P.T. clone and The Medium is an official Silent Hill knockoff with Polish Nightmare Artist backgrounds.
Its Konami of course they are going to mess it up. Remember the last time they remastered Silent Hill, where they literally just dubbed new voices over the old ones.
Oh, the BS that "the fixed camera causes fucking tension" was such a fuckin' awful thing. NO RE2 Remake literally proved that you don't need a fuckin' fixed camera for that. And being frustrated and having motion sickeness from constantly shifting controls and perspectives is not "building tension". Like CV11 said "At least nobody's arguing that the controls on this sh*t game are building tension".
My enduring memory of Dino Crisis was the first encounter with the T-Rex. So in my infinite wisdom, I employed the tactic used in Jurassic Park by standing still. Confident in my method, only to die like an utter tit.
Yeah that movement thing is a myth, taken loosely from the book when its said that the dinos deliberately had weaknesses put into them to give workers a chance to survive should anything go wrong. Sorry you had to find out the hard way hahaha.
I used to think you could Kill The T-rex when I was a kid. I would try for ages emptying all my clips to him over and over and over again failing time and time again so desperately wanting to down him. Till one day I finally realised you just can't do it lol
@@IFinishedAVideoGame well deserved 1 million + views. I’m a good chunk of those views most likely as well, I usually play this video as my wind down before bed. As a series that got me into survival horror (I loved Jurassic Park, so of course I had to beg my dad for the dinosaur game with the sexy red haired lady on the cover), I greatly appreciated your overview of the series. You were witty, well informed and relatable. Goes without saying I’m a subscriber now, and look forward to more content!
I just had the weirdest but also best experience ever. I woke up early put on a random video and fell back to sleep then this started playing and I was awake enough to understand and hear the video BUT I was asleep enough that I saw every single scene as if dreaming but also hearing the narration.
I believe this is called hypnagogia. It’s a pre/early phase of sleep where you can still hear and sometimes feel stimuli but you visually process them as if they were a dream. It can get really confusing if you fall asleep while talking to someone, because you can still speak out loud, and inevitably react to stuff you are “dreaming” about (some classify this as hallucination) as if the other person can also see it, but they just think you’re crazy
This happens to me a lot. Mostly cuz I always have to listen to something when I sleep. It gets very confusing sometimes. Especially when you think you're having a conversation with someone.
As a kid, these were my absolute favorite games. I inherited my older brother’s ps1 when he got a ps2 and I played through these games dozens of times each. I did speed runs of 2, but never 1. I enjoyed the slow methodical approach, even at 9 or 10. It was the first game that made me think and plan ahead. I learned that the most efficient use of resources was to hoard supplies for poison darts rather than ammo so you can permanently put down the big bad black ones in the last third of the game and breeze through the toughest parts, and it made me feel really accomplished to handle the toughest sections like a walk in the park
I love that it rewards strategizing and really understanding its systems. In that sense I think it's the absolute pinnacle of survival horror - all of the mechanics and feeling behind RE1 is there but you have to think and plan to a whole extra level!
@@IFinishedAVideoGame I’ve honestly never played a better example of the genre since. It just really nailed the feeling of terror whenever you had to leave the safe rooms and come up with a plan to make it through the next section. Resources were scarce and you had to have nerves of steel to make it through unscathed. At least to 9 year old me haha
It was my favorite too. English is not my native language and i never understood shit of what was going on. Never reached the end but tried so many times... So many times. They should remaster it, i tried to run the first one in a emulator but didnt work
@@devpac7861 do it! Even if you have to emulate it on pc or something. I wish I could go back and experience it again for the first time. One of the most lasting impressions a game has ever left on me, particularly the first ten hours or so. Some really excellent atmosphere
Hey man! In DC2, the dinosaur from the beginning is a Tyranosaurus. That's the same one from the coliseum. You can tell because it's eye is always blown out by David's Rocket Launcher. The Giganatosaurus is the one that you fight in the Silo as Regina, and the Facility as Dillan.
@@IFinishedAVideoGame Oh, and also in that DC2 section at 1:10:55 you say that you can see a mother stegosaurus and her child off in the distance when in reality they’re both triceratops. I was going to chalk it off as you just mis-speaking, but then you do the same thing again during coverage of the second turret section at 1:25:40, so I just wanted to give you a heads-up. 🤷🏻♂️ Other than small discrepancies like that, I just want to say that I’ve been binging your videos non-stop since subscribing after getting recommended your latest entry (the complete Castlevania retrospective) at the time of this response. Love the high-quality long-form content - please keep it up! 🙏🏼 [Edited a typo out I initially missed]
@@polytrashed he got a bunch of animals wrong, including one not even being a dinosaur (but then, that animal shouldn’t exist at all during dino times, so the developers got that one wrong) I don’t think it’s worth correcting except when it matters in describing the gameplay. It’s a video game retrospective not a paleontology video.
Also calls the Therizinosaurus a raptor. I mean it's fine not to know that dinosaur, I just found it odd how often people mix the two in this game when they look nothing alike xD
I still replay DC2 from time to time. Not many people talk about the thing, but it's still one of the best actioners on the PS1 for me despite the 90s jank.
Oh for sure - that first few hours are some of the purest fun I've ever had on any console. It's just a shame we don't get more of it in the game itself!
Videos like these give me hope that, soon, Dino Crisis will slowly reach the same level of recognition that RE, SH, Shenmue, DMC, etc, once did, after only a few devoted fans kept the flame alive. And, when that day comes, I hope Capcom is listening… That recently announced Exoprimal really felt like a punch to the gut, similar to how RE6/Umbrella Corps or DMC reboot did, so I really wish more fans could step up, spread the word, and join in one voice to finally bring back this dormant franchise. This is where I get personal: Dino crisis 1 was such a shock back when it released, and it partly the game that made me further interested in survival horror, but Dino Crisis 2 was something else entirely… it was the action I loved from classic movies like Aliens, but with the coat of paint from Jurassic Park, more precisely: The Lost World… which is my favorite of the Jurassic films, alongside the classic gameplay aspects from both Dino Crisis and the newest RE games, that game became my very first addiction… I wasn’t forced into finding all the secrets, or playing it in the harder difficulties, or with a no damage score in all the levels…. No….. i WANTED to do it, and it was the very first time I felt that… I was so proud of having memorized all the Dino files locations through every playthrough, and every new replay felt different and fresh, as I kept unlocking more stuff that I kept earning, plus also getting enough points for the extra crisis mode. The game kept me hooked far after the ps1 era… I got the game (pirated sorry) on PC, then emulated on my phone, then I found an original ps1 copy, bought it on my vita, and I keep replaying and beating the game as soon as I get the chance… It’s been my one answer to: ‘’what’s your favorite game ever?’’ Since I first played it back in the early 2000’s. I dream of one day, watching a game reveal show, or an award show, and suddenly seeing that raptor paw drop in a dark room with one light in the middle, and seeing the words R E M A K E. Exoprimal’s announcement made me feel so betrayed… especially when they showed the redhead girl… I just felt like they were ready to kill it, and rework it for modern, post-fortnite audiences, and call it a day…. And I still can’t shake the feeling of sadness whenever they show more of it. Especially knowing how long it’s been… people I used to play the originals with, are either out of my life, or dead… and it depresses me greatly, feeling like I might be the only sad little nerd who still holds on to this franchise with a life saving grip, hoping that someday, I’ll see it again, and videos like these, lighten the grip a bit, as I feel I’m not the only one there… and i mean, other childhood classics came back, Resident Evil 2 and 3, Silent Hill 2, Alone in the Dark… so… maybe… one day, we’ll get to see Regina, Gail, Rick, Dr. Kirk, and the badasses from T.R.A.T David and Dylan as well as Paula back again, and maybe, even a proper third part that finally solves that mysterious DC 2 ending that has been laying dormant in my heart since I was but a tiny little kid on my way to school every week… So, I guess, what I’m trying to say is: thank you for this… you’re keeping the hope in my heart alive just by still thinking about this franchise, let alone taking this much effort to make such a detailed and fascinating video. Safe to say, you have a new subscriber. Greetings from Mexico, and now, to keep waiting… for as long as life lets me. 1:05:08 also, real quick, that wasn’t the Giganotosaurus, that’s the T-Rex, the ‘’one eyed menace’’ who chases you throughout the whole game, only to later be turned to mush by the actual final baddie, the Giga. 1:25:39 Triceratops mate, also quite possibly the same ones you saw roaming in the background earlier with their child, they go on a rampage after the poor little critter dies either by mean spirited survivors, or just caught in the crossfire. ALSO thank you for being the only person who’s given Dino Crisis 3 a proper chance… I remember being so puzzled and let down by the game’s reviews, but when I played it, I realized it wasn’t really that bad, and while the story’s only connections to DC might be the mother super computer just like Dino Stalker, the third energy and the mention of Dylan, I really was intrigued by the story and the way it slowly revealed itself. Plus the Dino mutants were beautifully designed. And I’m glad I’m not the only one who felt like thee was a slight connection between this game and Dead Space… I always described this as an early dead space with zombie dinosaurs and crazy combat.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video and could relate to it on such a personal level! It's always really awesome reading comments like yours and knowing that my video could really live up to the love people have for the franchise!
capcom vancouver cancelled, hope they continue the project, missed opportunity. yeah exoprimal was a waste material from both Lost Planet and Dino Crisis
ALSO stop begging for remakes. You seem like a smart cookie - surely you should know that it's impossible to re-invent something. Right now we need visionaries, not tired re-hashes of old IPs
Weird compliment; I love the chapter names you’ve picked. Adds a little extra spice to the experience. The little things, always remember the little things. 🤟🏻
This is peak content. I've watched most of the Dino Crisis retrospectives and this is by far the best. Well researched and a very interesting structure. thank you for this.
Thanks so much! Yeah I really wanted to make sure that it stood out from other similar videos and I'm really pleased with it. It's sort of a tale of Shinji Mikami and Capcom as well as the franchise!
This video was a real treat. I've sung the praises of Dino Crisis 2's addictive combat system for all these years, but usually I get pushback from people who didn't like the departure from the original. In some ways DC2 is like RE4, in that both games represented a dramatic shift in direction away from survival (or panic) horror that ultimately would turn out to be a mistake in philosophy that would need to be corrected. And yet, both games are so much fun that it's hard to criticize them for it, especially RE4 which is inarguably a masterpiece. And I say that as someone who usually prefers the stripped-down survival horror entries. But sometimes the first step in the "wrong" direction can be exhilarating if the execution is there.
That's a very interesting point about a great game in the wrong direction. Couldn't agree with you more about RE4. It might be one of my favourite games of all time but the loss of the true survival horror branch of the franchise was a big price to pay!
RE4 still has limits on what you can do. Even going as far as designing several sections to deplete your resources. You have limited inventory, limited ammo, limited health. The video is right in pointing out that it feels nothing like Dino Crisis 1 and more like an action arcade game. Remember the earlier criticism of Dino Crisis 1's "easy" mode. I tried several times to play Dino Crisis 2, but never got more than 5 minutes in with the word "combo" and respawning enemies destroying all motivation to continue. It's like wanting a pizza and getting a burger. I'll take your word for it, that it was a pretty good burger. But, I wanted a pizza. da'fuk
I never comment on videos but it is an actual tragedy you aren't known more. A comment here for the algorithm gods! And keep making this awesome content, I love long form content like this. Gets me through the working day and teaches me all the fantastic obscure stuff I love.
Honestly my dude at the start of the year I had basically zero subscribers and in that time the channel has grown massively! I'm just going to continue to make videos I find interesting and hopefully more people make their way here to get something out of them!
@@IFinishedAVideoGame I'd generally agree but with one caveat. The craze of shoving multiplayer into everything even when it doesn't make sense gave us one of the greatest multiplayer experiences I've ever had. A multiplayer experience I've been chasing a replacement for since 2014, Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer. I have not yet found a game as fun, and as well made as that experience, with a similar gameplay loop. Outrider's is the closest out there, and that game has some major flaws.
@@Deadsnake989 thats crazy to read. I also had fun with it more so than the single player but that was why I was so mad about it. it should have been a stand alone game itself not tacked on a detracting from a previously fantastic narrative franchise. definitely was fun though, big middle finger for the micro transactions though.
That Republic Commando reference really hits home. It was one of my favorite FPS games growing up and it never received anything besides some books that reference the characters, which I also own l.
What if Dino Crisis 3's original concept wasn't abandoned in favor of that whole mutant dinosaurs in space-concept or what if DC3's gameplay actually worked out as intended are some of those big "what if" scenarios (dinosaur games in general seem to be somewhat cursed in that regard; JP Trespasser is another dinosaur game that is just absolutely seeped in what ifs) in gaming. Maybe in such timelines, DC would still be one of the big active Capcom-series alongside its RE cousin. Maybe it would be dead but killed by some later entry in the series instead of DC3. Or maybe it would have been killed by DC3 no matter whether it took place on solid ground or in the depths of space or how good the game was. On a side note, it is pretty weird that there hasn't been a RE game or movie (I think that there is a RE comic that features a space station outbreak, but given that I'ven't read any of them, I can't be certain) that takes place either completely or partially in space. Given how bizarre that series has occasionally gotten over the years and how its evil corps just love to put their labs in the most ridiculous places, you'd think there'd be at least one entry where the secret evil lab is on a space station by now. Maybe DC3's failure is the thing that stops Capcom from going full zombies in space. But to end on a positive note; I must say that some of DC3's space mutant dinosaur designs look cool as fuck.
Yeah DC3 is a weird game - it gets such a harsh rap and while that is mostly deserved I feel like there is some dimension out there where it was actually considered a really great game. If that camera was just refined a little bit more, the difficulty remixed and if it just wasn't called Dino Crisis 3 - I think it would have done a huge degree better!
Loved DC1+2 when I was younger. The ending of DC2 left a hole in my life like nothing else at the time, leaving Dylan and the girl behind with only the promise of a rescue. Another fantastic video, mate.
It's crazy to think that it's a cliffhanger that was never resolved. It was a series that sold millions of copies and it's just lying dormant (for quite a few reasons mind). It would be great to even get an acknowledgement of the series at this point!
It is sad that DC3 had to be rebuilt from the ground up due to a real world incident that the dev team would feel in poor taste that would of likely resolved the cliff hanger. However it MAY be that Capcom is getting ready for something as something fans noticed in RE Village by eagle eyed easter egg hunters could hint that Capcom is up to something DC related.
@@AtmonTheExectioner I never ended up playing whatever DC3 ended up being. Saw the reviews and some demos and could never understand the direction they took it in. Was so disappointing to my 13 year old self. I hope you're right about the easter egg in Resi 8. A new Dino Crisis game would be the most exciting bit of gaming news I've had in years. I don't game as much as I'd like to these days, but if a sequel or remake is ever released, the wife and kids are immediately going on the back burner for a week. Only other announcement that could rival it would be Kojima somehow returning to create a new Metal Gear.
@@IFinishedAVideoGame yeah, any little hint of a possible return would be absolutely fantastic. I have so much love for those two games, but I haven't played either in probably 20 years. Scared that if I go back to them it will spoil the memories a little.
Excellent retrospective, but one little issue at the beginning of the Dino Crisis 2 review. That's not the Giganotosaurus (mispronounced, but let that slide). That's just the T-rex. The Giga doesn't appear until later when it kills the Rex.
Haha yeah, you can tell my covid brain struggled with a lot of the dinosaur names. It looks like I've made quite a few mistakes with them! Hopefully, it didn't affect your enjoyment of the video!
@@IFinishedAVideoGame Wise to not even attempt it with the Therizinosaurus, instead just calling it a different raptor like dino. In addition to the Spinosaurus like evolution of how it has been depicted in popular art and culture since the mid 90s, the game’s version is quite a contrast to the later more realistic depiction in Jurassic World: Dominion.
Capcom's running out of RE games to remake unless they want to dig into the more obscure entries, hopefully they'll dig into their back catalogue and other franchises for remakes or nee games. People loved REmake 4, why would they stop now?
Commenting for the engagement but also to express my excitement at hearing one of the best around talk about a series I've always been deeply curious about, but barely played.
Thanks my dude - I really appreciate that especially as I've had a few mental crises (no pun intended) about this video while making it. I hope it's turned out alright and people vibe with what I'm saying about the series!
I had a buddy in middle school that was obsessed with this series. Never really got into them myself, but your video showed me what I was missing out on. Good show.
Fighting Dinosaurs instead of zombies is so much more terrifying I thought this game was way scarier than RE at the time and didn't get the credit it truly deserved this game was intense!
Absolutely agree! There is something truly terrifying about a huge monstrous lizard bearing down on you with almost no warning. Zombies have their own scares as they are a sort of post-human terror but dinosaurs - damn son
I was a very big fan of dino crisis when I was a kid, my parents didn't want me to play resident evil as it depicts gorey violence against humans, apparently gorey violence against lizards was okay. I really appreciate the nuance analysis of dino crisis 3, since as a small and dumb child I really liked this game. I was amazed by the metroidvania-like structure of it (not being able to play metroid prime until much later) and the quick punishing combat that kept me on my toes, I enjoyed the sub weapon system, all the frantic mobility in combat allowed by the jet pack and by the auto aim and like every kid at the time without much money, I beat the game several times. My biggest really childish criticism was the lack of actual dinosaurs, replaced by weird fleshy monsters. I never knew how hated it was until years later. Of course I am now well aware of its flaws, but watching your review I cannot help but wonder if there is some camara hack possible along with other minor adjustment, like some lock on feature that allow you to manually circle between targets, that could partially redeem this game from its awful reputation. I mean... that is what happened more or less to sonic 06, another game considered one of the worst of all time, by the fan-made project 06. Which fixes bugs and general crappy gameplay issues, but keeps the level design and structure intact, even down to things like vehicle sections, that some people now have come to appreciate years later. Of course I am not saying that dino crisis 3 is some kind of diamond in the rough, some tragic master piece. Just that the good ideas, and there are plenty, are extremely overshadowed by comparatively few very unfortunate decisions. Like every other fan, I really hope we get some new dino crisis game in the feature, although maybe unlike most fans, I am not too keen on the current focus on mass appeal of the resident evil games, which kind of forget about all the experimentation that the franchise had before. I would like someday to get a new classic style of resident evil, but I don't think we are going to get that. So I think it would be cool if instead we get new dino crisis or a dino crisis 1 remake in the style of RE1 remake, tank controls and all. And... to be in an even more extreme minority. I would really appreciate if the dinosaurs were updated to be more accurate to our current understanding. Which means completely feathered raptors. Which I think are perfectly viable as terrifying monsters, similar to how crows are a staple of horror iconography. Honestly to me, bold raptors look now more silly than scary.
I (mostly Listened to and (sorta) watched this all in one sitting. Loved it! I hereby sacrifice this comment to the engagement gods and wish this video and channel all the success! Really love the pacing and arrangement of subject matter and how you broke down such a huge topic. Loved the background into the development and the politics of making games, great job with the research. loved the insight into the games themselves. Really liked how you took a decidedly non negative approach. Once you realize how complicated and hard development is for this kind stuff you really realize they tried their best and we can at least give them credit for the stuff that went well, while being honest and understanding about the stuff that didn't.
I'm so happy to hear you got all that out of it. I think that long form videos are becoming kinda played out so I'm trying my best to keep the topics I cover as interesting as possible - I would hate to think I'm just padding my videos so it's great to hear everything is landing!
@@IFinishedAVideoGame I'd say retrospectives like this, while more common than they used to be, are still pretty rare. Especially once one gets away from either cult classics(sort of Alpha Protocol), or beloved classics(early RE, Dino Crisis), retrospectives dry up pretty quickly for a variety of titles.
I'm in phase were I see non-avian dinosaurs for what they actually were: extinct animals that lived in their habitat like the wild animals of today. So, in this, Dino Crisis 3 is weirdly the most honest of the franchise: its "dinosaurs" are just sci-fi monsters that look like dinosaurs.
Haven't watched the entire thing yet, but there's some minor things I wanted to respond to about DC1. 27:35 - You *do* find a few darts out in the wild, but they're fairly rare. You're even picking up a set of darts at 30:09 :P 44:14 - Kirk's prints can actually be picked up directly from him, but the game places Regina a small distance away from him when you talk to him. If you walk up to him from the front and use the fingerprint scanner, Regina will pick up his prints without issue. 45:10 - The existence of the wiretapping device and it's location are both revealed in the memo you highlight at 44:05. You wouldn't be able to enter this room before having been to the room where that memo is located; furthermore, that room has a terminal from which a puzzle must be solved, and the memo is in-frame when standing in front of that terminal, giving the player a fair opportunity to spot it. 45:34 - Minor nitpick: The code isn't found in a *memo* , rather, the memo in this room gives you directions on how to obtain the code: you need to use the 6-digit code that you worked out when doing the sound puzzle just earlier, split it into two 3-digit codes, and then add a 0 to each 3-digit code to create two new 4-digit codes. I'll grant that it's definitely a complicated puzzle to solve, though. Few if any expect that they'll need to hold on to the 6-digit code from the sound puzzle, and the directions for splitting the code into two 3-digit codes before tacking on a 0 to each of them aren't fantastic. It's possible the directions were less confusing in Japanese, however, as the game *does* have issues with the translation in places. I could go on with minor things for the Dino Crisis 2 part, such as the fact that David didn't crash the helicopter out of incompetence, but because it ran out of fuel, but I think I'll take a break updating my comment from here. As an aside, the Playstation 1 was my first ever console, and I grew up with Dino Crisis 1 and later Dino Crisis 2 on account of it being dinosaur games and my parents overlooking their age ratings (lol). I wish Dino Crisis 3 had been the game it was meant to be, and I wish Capcom would stop being sadists when it comes to baiting fans of this franchise :(
Absolutely - I've found myself really returning to that period of game design thanks to the direction that modern games have gone in. So much care and love was poured into them
I don't know or care about Dino Crisis. But I watched this entire video for how well researched and entertaining this is. I'm glad youtube randomly recommended your channel.
Man, I im amazed just how high-quality your content is. You totally deserve more subs - leaving my comment to contribute some activity for your growth! Keep going and don't stop with the retrospectives
Thanks so much! I really appreciate the sentiment and you never know which video will take off and which won't so maybe this will be one that brings in a lot of new viewers!
Hey, I just wanted to check in and say this video is incredible. It's how I found your channel in the first place, it prompted me to become a patron immediately after finishing it, and I genuinely think about this video a lot. Thanks for making content like this, it means a lot to me to have such an incredible and painstaking retrospective of one of my favorite series ever.
Great analysis, I didn't remember this being as good as it clearly was. When this came out I was like 12 and found it almost too intense to play. Was too young to appreciate the artistry.
It's never too late to go back and experience them! They might not be remade but you can always emulate the original two very easily and I'd say they're bags of fun considering their age!
This video is just incredible! The quality, amaZing script and editing is unparalleled. I've been searching for years for the definitive dino crisis documentary, and I've finally found it. Bravo my friend, bravo
I love both DC1 and DC2 a lot which keep hoping and praying one day they will get the RE remake treatment one day along with so many fans who want to see those two games brought back
So, I'm watching this again, and the Dinos In Space game is still the coolest looking one to me. But I've figured out why I enjoy your videos so much. It's not just that you research everything pretty well or provide an objective look, it's your narration style. So many TH-camrs either sound like game show hosts, condescending, overly sardonic dweebs, or put on ridiculously dramatic voices, or constantly making terrible jokes. You don't do that. Every time I watch your stuff, I feel like me and my faceless Brit pal have sat down in the bar, a pint for each of us, and he's happily telling me about something he legitimately loves. The excitement is genuine, the critiques are honest, the praise is heartfelt. These videos have a pleasant, almost cozy feel to them, and each time one ends I look forward to the next one. You're doing a solid job. I don't know if you're intentionally cultivating the atmosphere I've described, but if so, it's noticed and I dig it. Now let's see that Castlevania video!
All I can say in response to this is thank you. It's probably the nicest comment I've ever had on the channel and really encapsulates everything I'm going for. I know I might not be the most well-researched, have the best production, or even have the most original takes - but what I do have is a real genuine passion for this era of video games. I always used to tell my friends stories when we'd sit around drinking or smoking and I think that it translates quite well over to TH-cam - I'm really happy that it's coming through in the videos! Castlevania shouldn't be that far away! It's an absolutely huge video which is easily my longest yet but I think it should be well worth the wait! Thanks once again for commenting - it really made my day!
@@IFinishedAVideoGame it's researched well enough for me. Your Eternal Darkness vid was pretty thorough. And as far as production values go, none of this stuff has been shoddy in the least. I dig the conversational approach. I dig the little fun bits like naming chapters after some of my favorite short stories. I like that I start finding myself interested in series that I honestly never was interested in before, like, honestly, this one. I used to think Resident Evil: Jurassic Park Edition was the dumbest thing ever, but then you showed me videos of a mutated T-Rex on a derelict space ship and mercenaries fighting off velociraptors in cybernetic armor in a tone of voice that's clearly accompanied by a grin and full awareness of how utterly ridiculous and awesome that is. You reply to damn near every comment, you give us enjoyable videos that contain effort when you could easily churn out "TOP FIVES TIMES LINK LOOKED AT ZELDA'S BUTT" garbage. You're doing it right, and anyone who peeks in here will likely agree. You deserve way more subs than you have. I have no complaints, few disagreements, and nothing but praise to offer.
I adore your content. It's at such a high level of quality and as someone who loves a video essay I'm shocked you don't have more subscribers! It's just a matter of time!
Thanks so much - that really means a lot to hear! And who knows - maybe this video will blow up and we'll get a lot of new viewers. For now, I feel like 30k subscribers are really pretty massive considering at the start of the year I had less than 500!
@@IFinishedAVideoGame one step at a time mate, you'll get there for sure. the quality of your content is too good not to grow your viewerbase. never played this game, dont care for the genre, but thoroughly enjoyed the vid. great stuff
One could argue that this just might be my favorite video on youtube. I have started watching it many times, and have yet to finish due to falling asleep. This right here is a cure for my insomnia. I promise to finish it... someday.
It amazes me that recently released capcom game exoprimal, was called that when so much of the narrative is so incredibly dino crisis that if they just updated the name i'm pretty it would make more sense
Lost count of how many times i've re-watched this one, it's such a soothing type of documentary-style coverage of an age old classic that has been near and dear to me ever since childhood. As always, can't wait to see future vids!
Watched this video in 3 parts - really really enjoyed it! Thanks for the effort you put into making this. Obviously a big blast of nostalgia which was lovely, but also packed full of new information that I'd never known about the series! Impressive how you were able to keep the format consistent throughout such a long assignment, without repeating yourself too many times or forcing in any nonsense to fill time. Edit: Any chance you would consider looking at the SOCOM series of games? Plenty of content to analyze. SOCOM: 1, 2, 3, Combined Assault, Fireteam Bravo 1 & 2, Confrontation, SOCOM 4.
Thanks my friend. I work really hard to make sure to try and make sure that each section is really dense with information that is at the very least fairly unknown! It's tricky to stand out on YT considering that almost everyone now puts out 2 hour videos seemingly every week but I really feel like mine justify the run time! Thanks for watching!
Had a really bad day and binged your jade empire/lotr and eternal darkness videos last night. HYPED to wake up to a new video! I gotta drive 200km today so imma download it and listen while I drive. Also happy to see you have a sponsor now!! You totally deserve it
Thanks my friend! Yeah I was a bit surprised when Nord contacted me because I'm not usually one to go after sponsors (and I've had a few offers) but this is something I actually like so I felt okay about this one! Hopefully the video brightens up the drive!
I wish we could get more Dino Crisis. That new Capcom dinosaur game seems to take some inspiration from the later entries, and I'm looking forward to it
Yeah I'm certainly going to give ExoPrimal a chance but something about the full sci fi element really puts me off - I kinda like the more grounded approach of DC1 and 2!
Me and my now deceased mom used to play this game (the first one) together. My mother was also a red head so i think the character (Regina) resonated with her. My mom played almost no video games so this was a very special time for me. I miss my mother greatly, but the impressions she left on me will never be forgotten. I will cherish them and pass them onto my daughters ❤️
he actually delivers dino crisis 1 as he visions it, playing it as a kid did give an easier feeling than the ever suspensing RE gameplay, they really did deliver the panic horror vibes throughout the game and that feeling was so original and creative back then. he is such a legend
Lost Planet is certainly an interesting series - maybe I'll get there one day! I've got my next few planned out which I hope everyone finds as interesting as I do!
I had a very bad habit of not finishing games growing up. Dino crisis was one of only a handful of games I played growing up that I actually completed.
It's really quite bitesized actually - I was amazed by how quickly I finished both games! In a way that's quite a good thing though as I can imagine myself finishing DC2 quite a few more times before it's finally out of my system! Persona 5 and Witcher 3 - I'll probably have to wait 15 years to give that another go!
This is my second video of yours, fist was Parasite Eve. I can’t believe the amount of effort and research gone into your videos. Seriously, work like yours needs to be more recognized. Thanks for the deep analysis of another wonderful franchise. It’s a shame that Capcom didn’t do Dino Crisis justice and the ending it deserved. Hopefully, with the renaissance of survival horror, Capcom will turn their attention to this series and we’ll finally be able to get the closure we need.
Loving the incredible deep dive so far. At time of writing this I am part way through the Dino Crisis 2 deep dive. Want to correct a couple of points. In the opening sequence Dylan and Regina are attacked by a T-Rex not the Giganatosaurus. And when you talk of the non combative dinosaurs the "Stegosaurus and her baby" is actually a Triceratops. Otherwise this is fantastic work so far.
Yeah, it looks like I completely borked some of the dinosaur names in this script. Not sure how I managed to do that (probably a combo of the heatwave and having covid) Glad you enjoyed the video regardless!
@@IFinishedAVideoGame I will also point out a few things with my time with Dino Crisis 3. I agree that part the let down is because the story doesn't continue and we have no Regina...but the enemies just feel unfair being absolute sponges and being able to teleport through walls. The camera is abysmal with one notorious jump half way through going through 5 camera transitions that change your control scheme with each transition. Also the ship; while transformation is a good idea...all the corridors and segments feel soulless and samey and it really makes it feel weird that anyone could ever have lived on the ship or would want to. And lastly I feel that having weird hybrids instead of actual dinosaurs...as a dinosaur fanatic I feel let down.
I’m still shocked that tank controls and fixed cameras are considered bad…! Once you play that way it immerses you into the game. You remember every single hallway and every painting and the music for areas. That style is why we talk about these games 20 years later. My daughters plays these old games because of the quality that isn’t seen today. That’s my opinion.
I'm really enjoying the video so far! A couple of things I noticed: in DC2, you called the trex a giganotosaur and some triceratops stegosaurs. But, this doesn't detract from the quality of the video. Good stuff!
As a kid I thought this was just 'resident evil with dinosaurs' so let me tell you, when you meet the first raptor and I ran through the gate thinking I was safe... needless to say I shit bricks when that sucker jumped the fence.
...the difference to our ancestors is: that these games desensitize us so we don't freak out because of basic stuff...while our ancestors even got scared of a woman showing her boobs or using herbs as medicine.
Your retrospectives are amazing. How long until you head down the Resident Evil and Silent Hill rabbit holes? Or even Final Fantasy? Now THAT would be a huge video.
So I have thought about Silent Hill quite a bit but as there is a spate of new games coming out I'll likely wait until the dust has settled and then attempt a complete retrospective! As for Final Fantasy - I'm sure that video would kill me. Even capturing the footage for 16 50+ hours would be awful!
I really do love DC1 and DC2. DC1 gives me the same satisfaction that RE1 gives me. However DC2 is much more memorable to me simply because of the ending. I'm still waiting for Capcom to write a proper sequel. I want to see Regina save Dylan and Paula. I agree that the Dino Colosseum and Dino Duel are so fun. I remember playing it with my friend on his house just to fightbas dinosaurs hahaha. I really miss the PS1 era
Unfortunately I think with the death of Suigimura I doubt they'll return to that plotline as it was really his baby. It's sad because I'd love to see where he intended it to go!
Yeah it's a really cool mechanic that rewards really getting to know the game well. It's a shame we've not really seen a similar idea in the rest of the genre!
Dino Crisis 2’s underwater section was the game that taught me that I have severe motion sickness. The screen effects absolutely sell it as being underwater, but perhaps a little too well. I remember sitting on the couch with my dad on the weekend as we took turns playing levels, and barely a minute into the underwater section, I dropped my controller on the ground and ran to the bathroom. I still love the game regardless!
2 nitpicks. 1. The "other raptors" from Dino Crisis 1 were meant to be Therezinosaurus'. At the time nobody knew whether they were carnivores, herbivores or omnivores, cause they hadn't found a skull then. Now we know that, despite their massive claws, they were herbivores. 2. You say GigaNTOsaurus. Though there's a species of dinosaurs known as Gigantosaurus. But they were sauropods (aka long necks). They don't appear in the Dino Crisis franchise. GigaNOTOsaurus on the other hand was a theropod. And it appeared in the games. But besides this you really did an excellent job. Especially on Dino Crisis 3. It's been easily 15 years since my last play through, and I still feel the frustration. That bloody camera was such a pain in the ass. The plot was pure bred shit from the start. But fuck it, I had fun with that. The only thing to round it up perfectly would have been a 4th character, who's a one liner spewing, cigar smoking, minigun wielding, overly muscular Austrian killing machine. Also, I kind of have a soft spot for the monster designs. Especially that Ankylosaurus one. For a schlocky bad game, the designs were really nice.
What a great ending man. Thanks for the video. I didn't know the original writer had passed. Makes more sense to me now why there hasn't been any attempt at continuing the game.
Yeah it's something a lot of people don't realise and really does explain why the series has been untouched for years. Without Takumi, Mikami and Suigimura there just isn't the leadership at Capcom to really drive the series forwards. That being said - there is absolutely no reason why a remake of 1 couldn't be produced. I think the internet hype machine would go into overdrive for it
Love the video! But. I will say that I don't entirely buy the "the controls are bad to make it scary and dangerous" angle. If the game just decided that your controller shuts off for 5 seconds at random intervals, or buttons randomize which does what action every minute, that would make control difficult too. But that's not an enjoyable kind of difficulty. Neither are the bad controls in Dino Crisis. In the same way, when a game character can't do an action they clearly SHOULD be able to do, it's frustrating. It's the same frustration (except worse because of lost time to a death) when you can't hop over a waist high fence. Or when you need a key for a door despite having rocket launchers and chainsaw hands. I've played plenty of horror games, including tank control ones, where the game felt WAY better to control. Sure, this is a PS1 game so it gets a pass somewhat, but I don't really buy into the whole "it has to have sucky controls or it wouldn't be scary". Other games have disproven that narrative time and time again. You can have tank controls that play much better than they do here and still have a scary game. Getting hit because the character is unreasonably unresponsive isn't good difficulty or danger.
I was watching a Resident Evil retrospective recently on another channel that said that Devil May Cry was actually a Resident Evil title that was scrapped because it didnt have the same feel that resident evil fans were used to and it was simply reworked a bit and renamed instead of just throwing it out because it was so near completion. But what I really wanted to say was that longer videos like this usually just bore the hell out of me but for reasons I cant put my finger on I was oddly content to watch every minute of this and never bored at all. And I was shocked to even hear about that Dino Crisis 3 thing. That was fun, and extremely insightful and educational. Not to mention nostalgic. Thanks for the hard work that must have gone into making something like this.
I'm glad to know you enjoyed it! I always try to frame my videos as stories being told rather than a dispassionate "review" of a product and I think it helps keep them interesting! Got another long video due out tomorrow - hopefully you enjoy that too!
After randomly encountering your X-Men retrospective, I am working my way through all of your videos and loving all of them. You are doing a wonderful job looking at these all of these brilliant series. I would love to revisit Dino Crisis on modern hardware, I have very fond memories of being terrified of it as a kid I also especially like the amount of Legacy of Kain references you make in most videos. Vae Victis!
@@IFinishedAVideoGameSame, I'm just wishing they can continue in remastering their other capcom games like Onimusha series, still waiting for the rest.
I must thank you for making this video.. not for the reasons you may expect though. One of my mom's friends (who coincidentally recently died from his alcoholism, his name was Matt) played what I now strongly believe to be Dino Crisis 1 or 2 when I was extremely young, somewhere in the late 2000s I think. I only remembered him being in a jungle/forest setting playing as a woman who slaughtered dinosaurs and for over a decade I would randomly wonder if that was even a real memory or a dream I had. Even he told me he didn't remember playing a game like that. This video being recommended to me, with the vaguely familiar looking woman in the bottom left of the thumbnail, and the title mentioning a game about dinosaurs, instantly sent me over ten years back to that particular memory and confirmed it was indeed real. I'll have to try these at some point. I especially like the concept of the first game. Hitman is probably my favorite game franchise ever and I love how you are an absolute menace in it, but a game where you are far from the apex predator seems refreshing..
I've watched several retrospectives on the Dino Crisis series here on TH-cam, but this is by far the best of the bunch. Many of the little details and insights really made it an interesting and informative watch. Thanks for taking the time to put all this together. It must have taken a lot of time and energy.
Thanks very much! Yeah, it did take quite a while to put together but honestly, it was a lot of fun and the reception has been amazing so it's all been worth it! Hopefully, you enjoy my other videos too!
Played DC1 when I was in Grade 5(?) My parents were extremely abusive so Id lose myself in this game through renting it as often as I could. I always loved the DDKs, and DC was an experience Ill never forget. DC1 and RE2/3 were some of the gems of my childhood. Just hearing the recap of the story (i'm 34 now) brings back so many good and bad memories. Thank you so much for this video. DC2 was also one of my favorites, my best friend and I would rent it and just pig out on coca cola and tostitos chips. I also smoked weed for the first time at 13 the first time I ever beat DC2. Not sure how thats even relevant, but thanks so much for the nostalgia bomb. You deserved this sub!
That's awesome that this series means that much to you and brought back those memories. Smoking a j and playing some DC2 is basically my idea of a perfect Friday night in haha!
Absolutely do my dude - they take a long time to make so I cannot commit to really regular uploads (I have absolutely no idea how people are supposed to upload multiple hour-long videos every week and have them be good quality). I try my best to stick to one every 4-5 weeks as then hopefully you get a well-put-together video on something interesting! Next one is a real passion project of mine which I'm super excited to share with everyone!
I must have been about 10 years old when I played this. The T rex bursting through the window and those raptors that can open doors are still in my nightmares.
Wow, just finished and this was incredible! I dont often make it through hours long content on youtube but I could not stop watching. Dino crisis is one game I could never complete as a kid due to the difficulty and this was really exciting to see such a comprehensive breakdown. You've got a subscriber, man. Wonderful video. Can't praise it enough!
Thanks so much Caleb! It's always really nice to hear from people who don't usually watch this sort of video so I'm glad it held your attention and you found it interesting! I'm hard at work on another one as we speak so hopefully that catches your eye in the same way!
@@IFinishedAVideoGame Ha, awesome thanks for the reply. I see Castlevania is coming up...to say I'm excited is an understatement! You've got some serious talent and I can't wait to see how you break it down. Take care, man!
Capcom is sitting on a gold mine they are not harvesting. I can name so many big TH-camrs with millions of followers who have been wanting a new Dino Crisis game.
I really appreciate your videos and all the time and effort it must take, to create those. I really like your style of long video essays, as some of others (which i nonetheless like to watch) sometimes go a bit overboard with retelling the stories of the games scene by scene. I think, you found a really good balance between recapping the story, gamedesign, context of creation of the games and your opinion. I hope your channel will see more success and that you can pursue this full time (in case that is even you goal). I am glad that for once the youtube-algorithms had a good suggestion for me (the lotr games retrospective) that let me discover your channel.
Thanks so much my friend - it really means a lot to hear that. I feel like when I first started long-form videos were only really starting to become a thing and now it feels like everyone is putting out 2+ hour videos so it can become easy to doubt that what you're doing is even worthwhile or interesting! Hearing comments like yours is a huge boost - I really genuinely do appreciate it.
Thanks very much. I'm the same - as modern games get more and more about live services and endlessly remaking the past, I've found myself just content to go back and spend my time there!
The fact that they’ll rerelease every resident evil game doesn’t give me any hope of them working on Dino crisis any time soon. I also feel like the devs were turning the game farther than the first which was to me the best so wouldn’t be sure if I’d like whatever they put out now
I man love Dino crisis 2 I hadn’t even ever played the first but I remember getting that huge gun early on and just blew through one of the most bonkers game stories I remember from my youth.
This game is extremely nostalgic for me, I spent HOURS upon HOURS playing this game. I loved watching your video, and the game play footage you included. Thank you!

I'll just say i really love these deep dives and have a wonderful week xx
Dino Crisis 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. Action, story and the never ending quest to clear each room without getting hit to get the money bonus is beyond fun.
Honestly, I preferred 2. Dino Crisis 1 is excruciatingly tough. I hated how stout the raptors were. 2 had so much replayability.
Great work!

NO
RE2 Remake literally proved that you don't need a fuckin' fixed camera for that. And being frustrated and having motion sickeness from constantly shifting controls and perspectives is not "building tension".

@jerrymack95 not to paraphrase The Wire but it's all in the name lol
My enduring memory of Dino Crisis was the first encounter with the T-Rex. So in my infinite wisdom, I employed the tactic used in Jurassic Park by standing still. Confident in my method, only to die like an utter tit.
That can actually work if you stand right in the corner! You weren't far off a legitimate strategy!
Really happy to hear I wasn't the only one. Turns out that the strategy works if you stand in the farthest corner, near the door I think.
😂 I did the same
You know this is quality when it's 2 hours long and still has a million views...
When I was making it I thought it might get to 100k - 1 million has kinda been mind blowing
@@IFinishedAVideoGame I don't know why, but I keep coming back to this one. I've never even played Dino Crisis, but I really want to now.
Finally people are understanding or they put this long video to sleep
2 million baby and well deserved
I just had the weirdest but also best experience ever. I woke up early put on a random video and fell back to sleep then this started playing and I was awake enough to understand and hear the video BUT I was asleep enough that I saw every single scene as if dreaming but also hearing the narration.
That sounds super weird but very cool - hopefully it didn't generate too many dino nightmares
I have this happen many times a week. My dreams are so vivid intense and interesting.
I’m not gonna lie….. I’m kinda jealous 😂
You're completely correct - that's my mistake!
Other than small discrepancies like that, I just want to say that I’ve been binging your videos non-stop since subscribing after getting recommended your latest entry (the complete Castlevania retrospective) at the time of this response.

@@polytrashed he got a bunch of animals wrong, including one not even being a dinosaur (but then, that animal shouldn’t exist at all during dino times, so the developers got that one wrong)
I don’t think it’s worth correcting except when it matters in describing the gameplay. It’s a video game retrospective not a paleontology video.
Also calls the Therizinosaurus a raptor. I mean it's fine not to know that dinosaur, I just found it odd how often people mix the two in this game when they look nothing alike xD
@@polytrashed I just wanted to comment on this exact thing myself, but first checked if someone else noticed :P
I remember dc2 having a pretty decent plot twist too, although I preferred the first
Videos like these give me hope that, soon, Dino Crisis will slowly reach the same level of recognition that RE, SH, Shenmue, DMC, etc, once did, after only a few devoted fans kept the flame alive.
And, when that day comes, I hope Capcom is listening…
That recently announced Exoprimal really felt like a punch to the gut, similar to how RE6/Umbrella Corps or DMC reboot did, so I really wish more fans could step up, spread the word, and join in one voice to finally bring back this dormant franchise.
This is where I get personal:
Dino crisis 1 was such a shock back when it released, and it partly the game that made me further interested in survival horror, but Dino Crisis 2 was something else entirely… it was the action I loved from classic movies like Aliens, but with the coat of paint from Jurassic Park, more precisely: The Lost World… which is my favorite of the Jurassic films, alongside the classic gameplay aspects from both Dino Crisis and the newest RE games, that game became my very first addiction… I wasn’t forced into finding all the secrets, or playing it in the harder difficulties, or with a no damage score in all the levels…. No….. i WANTED to do it, and it was the very first time I felt that…
I was so proud of having memorized all the Dino files locations through every playthrough, and every new replay felt different and fresh, as I kept unlocking more stuff that I kept earning, plus also getting enough points for the extra crisis mode.
The game kept me hooked far after the ps1 era… I got the game (pirated sorry) on PC, then emulated on my phone, then I found an original ps1 copy, bought it on my vita, and I keep replaying and beating the game as soon as I get the chance…
It’s been my one answer to: ‘’what’s your favorite game ever?’’ Since I first played it back in the early 2000’s.
Kirk, and the badasses from T.R.A.T David and Dylan as well as Paula back again, and maybe, even a proper third part that finally solves that mysterious DC 2 ending that has been laying dormant in my heart since I was but a tiny little kid on my way to school every week…
So, I guess, what I’m trying to say is: thank you for this… you’re keeping the hope in my heart alive just by still thinking about this franchise, let alone taking this much effort to make such a detailed and fascinating video.
ALSO thank you for being the only person who’s given Dino Crisis 3 a proper chance…
I remember being so puzzled and let down by the game’s reviews, but when I played it, I realized it wasn’t really that bad, and while the story’s only connections to DC might be the mother super computer just like Dino Stalker, the third energy and the mention of Dylan, I really was intrigued by the story and the way it slowly revealed itself.
This post is 🔥!
capcom vancouver cancelled, hope they continue the project, missed opportunity. yeah exoprimal was a waste material from both Lost Planet and Dino Crisis
ALSO stop begging for remakes. You seem like a smart cookie - surely you should know that it's impossible to re-invent something. Right now we need visionaries, not tired re-hashes of old IPs
I mean, it was that for a long time. DC1 was a much better seller than DMC, SH and Shenmue.
Weird compliment; I love the chapter names you’ve picked. Adds a little extra spice to the experience.

But, I wanted a pizza. da'fuk

Honestly my dude at the start of the year I had basically zero subscribers and in that time the channel has grown massively! I'm just going to continue to make videos I find interesting and hopefully more people make their way here to get something out of them!
One of my favorite series of all time. Back when games needed to be complete on release. 1 and 2 are timeless classics
I hear you on games needing to be complete - I'd add "also not have some sort of multiplayer/MTX component"
I also had fun with it more so than the single player but that was why I was so mad about it. it should have been a stand alone game itself not tacked on a detracting from a previously fantastic narrative franchise.
definitely was fun though, big middle finger for the micro transactions though.
totally, when forms of entertainment way to create audience awareness was to build its own credibility
That Republic Commando reference really hits home. It was one of my favorite FPS games growing up and it never received anything besides some books that reference the characters, which I also own l.
I'm glad that it finally got a re-release!
As far as I know the only space related thing in RE was in RE Revelations where a huge space laser glassed a city island on the ocean lol

Capcom's running out of RE games to remake unless they want to dig into the more obscure entries, hopefully they'll dig into their back catalogue and other franchises for remakes or nee games. People loved REmake 4, why would they stop now?
Jurassic Park Survival will hopefully deliver on that promise.
Good show.
He had excellent taste! Glad I could shine some light on these classic but oft forgotten games!
A dino crisis remake for PS5 going back to its survival horror roots would be amazing.
I'm living in the hope that one day we'll see it!
The King kong 2005 tie in game left some good scary memory, first person vs dinos

"There are fine things, old boy, which are more brilliant when unfinished, than when finished too much." - Ice Pick Lodge, Pathologic
That's a great quote from a brilliant game. I'm super hyped for the bachelors route!
You're even picking up a set of darts at 30:09 :P
44:14 - Kirk's prints can actually be picked up directly from him, but the game places Regina a small distance away from him when you talk to him.
I wish Dino Crisis 3 had been the game it was meant to be, and I wish Capcom would stop being sadists when it comes to baiting fans of this franchise :(
Loved Dino crisis 2 as a Kid. Bought a PS1 Copy on eBay two weeks ago. Love it more then Back in the day. Its a timeless masterpiece.

Dino Crises 2 was a blast! Loved trying to max out my kills between the little sectors.
This channel is quickly becoming one of my all time favorites! Keep up the great work man!
I know right, we must make him blow up 😂😂
Thanks so much - that really is an honor to hear! Hope I can keep making content you enjoy!
The amount of work you put in these videos is astonishing, would love to see your take and thoughts on another Capcom's franchise in Lost Planet.
Lost Planet is certainly an interesting series - maybe I'll get there one day! I've got my next few planned out which I hope everyone finds as interesting as I do!
@@IFinishedAVideoGame Will certainly enjoy any videos you put out, no matter what series it is.
Thanks for watching! I'm really pleased you've enjoyed another of my strange creations haha
Back then, they made games to try to be long lasting memories as it can always be their last hurrah
I’m still to this Day waiting for the Dino Crisis Remake! Come on Capcom!
I think we all are! It's crazy all the work that's been put into Exoprimal rather than Dino Crisis!
@IFinishedAVideoGame So True I hated that Game too...
That's awesome to see the next generation enjoying some tank controls! There are so many great games with them!
I'm really enjoying the video so far!
A couple of things I noticed: in DC2, you called the trex a giganotosaur and some triceratops stegosaurs.
But, this doesn't detract from the quality of the video. Good stuff!
Thanks! Unfortunately I had covid while writing the script so a few annoying issues crept in. Hope it didn't impact your enjoyment!
@@IFinishedAVideoGame i in fact loved the video
That's awesome to hear!
As a kid I thought this was just 'resident evil with dinosaurs' so let me tell you, when you meet the first raptor and I ran through the gate thinking I was safe... needless to say I shit bricks when that sucker jumped the fence.
It's such a fantastic horror game moment
...the difference to our ancestors is: that these games desensitize us so we don't freak out because of basic stuff...while our ancestors even got scared of a woman showing her boobs or using herbs as medicine.
@@Hyper_SSRwhat the hell are you talking about?
I loved the darts vs bullets vs healing items balancing mechanic. Really felt rewarded for being smart and strategic.
That sucks! Especially as it's really quite a good part of the game! Hopefully you didn't feel it watching the video!
2 nitpicks.
I think the internet hype machine would go into overdrive for it
Intelligent, respectful and calming. Thanks for making many videos that are hours long. Subbed.
Thanks so much for those kind words! I really appreciate it!
I would love to revisit Dino Crisis on modern hardware, I have very fond memories of being terrified of it as a kid
I also especially like the amount of Legacy of Kain references you make in most videos. Vae Victis!
That's really awesome to hear. Also we might be seeing more from Legacy of Kain very soon!
Considering the roll Capcom has been on lately, our chances for a revival of this series might be as good as they’ve ever been. One can only hope 🙏
We can hope! It is so ripe for revival!
@@IFinishedAVideoGameSame, I'm just wishing they can continue in remastering their other capcom games like Onimusha series, still waiting for the rest.
This is easily one of the best Dino crisis vids on TH-cam
Thanks Bernardo! I put a lot of effort into it so it's great to see people enjoying it!
@@IFinishedAVideoGame I really did, thank you
I must thank you for making this video.. not for the reasons you may expect though.
You're welcome! I'm really trying to fly the flag for keeping the detail about these older games alive so it's kinda heartwarming to see it in action.
😂
Dino Crisis 1 & 2, Legacy of Kain soul reaver and Def jam FFNY deserve next gen remasters
Couldn't agree more!
I hope you got more long retrospective videos like this in the works, this was awesome.
God yeah that is a jump scare for the ages!
These retrospectives are incredible! This channel is criminally underrated. I feel like THIS is GENUINE video game journalism, amazing job.
Thanks so much - I really appreciate your kind words!
I think about onimusha at least once a week. The best we've gotten in the past 15 years is a slightly upresed port of the first game
Oh same - I'm absolutely going to be covering it very soon!
@@IFinishedAVideoGame say no more I'm subbed
Capcom is sitting on a gold mine they are not harvesting. I can name so many big TH-camrs with millions of followers who have been wanting a new Dino Crisis game.
Absolutely - I think it would suit the more action focused systems of Resident Evil 4 Remake perfectly
Fantastic retrospective. I love reviews/analysis on older games, really showcases the value in these games
Thanks very much. I'm the same - as modern games get more and more about live services and endlessly remaking the past, I've found myself just content to go back and spend my time there!
@@IFinishedAVideoGamegames back then definitely feel different, and I still debate what that essence was (I’m sure it’s multi-faceted).
The fact that they’ll rerelease every resident evil game doesn’t give me any hope of them working on Dino crisis any time soon. I also feel like the devs were turning the game farther than the first which was to me the best so wouldn’t be sure if I’d like whatever they put out now
Let's hope so! Sadly the 25th anniversary just passed and there was silence - we can only dream for a strong comeback!
This game needs a remake
At least we can play it on PS5 now!
As bonkers & fun as Dino crisis 2 is i do wish it was a survival horror game like the first 😂
I man love Dino crisis 2 I hadn’t even ever played the first but I remember getting that huge gun early on and just blew through one of the most bonkers game stories I remember from my youth.
This game is extremely nostalgic for me, I spent HOURS upon HOURS playing this game. I loved watching your video, and the game play footage you included. Thank you!

Just found your channel. Thanks for the great content on games i missed on back then. You earned a sub!
Thanks! Glad you've been enjoying my stuff!
i really had to just say i absolutely love your video's (well they are much more than just mere "video's") i really really love these fantastic deep dives into the past, present and freakin crazy good info about these games, you and maybe 3 or 4 others i watch late nights, i get through your whole library in a few nights lol, anyway i just think your presentation and history of devs and game companies it just really facinates me, thank u so much xx You, Mandolore gaming and Grimbeard are literally the top of top for me (Love u all)❤️
Thanks Emma - that's so kind of you to say. I really appreciate comments like this as it really cuts through the more negative ones that stick in our minds and give a huge amount of encouragement! I'm hard at work on a few more videos so hopefully you shouldn't have to wait so long for the next one!
@@IFinishedAVideoGame awwww you know it'd be easy for me to just say ignore the negative comments, like we all know we should ignore them but we're only human, i just think you really really deserve all the positivity you get, if i can literally just help with 2 mins of my time to say those words and thank you, i will. I'll just say i really love these deep dives and have a wonderful week xx
The most recent, "Panic Horror", type game I've played is Darkwood. It reminds me of the split second fight or flight moments the games share.
I've heard really great things about Darkwood - I really need to give it a try at some point!
Darkwood is my favorite horror game. It has a story that sticks with you awhile after you finish. Going in blind is a treat!
@@wobbuffet8357 Might have to stick it on the stream list for when I eventually do a stream lmao
Dino Crisis 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. Action, story and the never ending quest to clear each room without getting hit to get the money bonus is beyond fun.
It really is ludicrously fun - I might not enjoy it as a complete package quite as much as 1 but damn is it ridiculously great to play
“Once the raptor’s on top of you, you need to mash buttons to get them off.”
It's basically more closer to Carnosaur than it is Jurassic Park.
