- Making more progress with the VR6 swapped MK1 Rabbit in this episode! The gas tank of a Rabbit diesel doesn't have an in-tank fuel pump, the pump is ran off of t he timing belt on the engine. So my solution is to run an external pump and filters. There's a nice recess next to the tank where I can gravity feed a 100 micron filter before a high pressure fuel pump pumps the gasoline/petrol to the engine bay using the existing hard lines. There, it passes through a smaller 10 micron filter before entering the fuel rail. The factory fuel pressure regulator holds the fuel rail at about 3 BAR of pressure before excess fuel returns to the tank using the factory return lines. There isn't much space next to the tank, but some creativity with a bracket means the pump and filter fit nicely. Lastly, to wire the pump, I used a chassis ground on the mounting bolt to the chassis, and ran the 12V+ to the relay under the dash.
I also wanted to pull the tank and clean it both inside and out. Surprisingly, the inside of the tank was really clean! The outside not so much, but both got a nice cleaning anyway.
One more thing checked off the list. I hope you like my install! Up next will be shift linkages, downpipes and exhaust, axles, brakes, wheels & tires. It's all going to come together quickly over the next few weeks! Stay tuned. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
Excellent 👍🏻 when I’ve got the bits together I’ll give you a shout to come back to England for a holiday 😂
Got a question, I would need some info on what exact pump you had went with? I'm searching for one as well for my VR6 and am in need.
This is the one I’m using for now. I plan on upgrading in the future but this one is getting the job done.
