This MV IS full of references to art and literature( References to the book "Demian" by Hermann Hesset), nothing it's there without a purpose, there's a lot of symbolism. There's many interpretations but it the main theme is the temptations a young adult must deal with, the lost of innocence. There's a lot of videos explaining this mv and the meaning, but basically it's a masterpiece. Other amazing videos to react are Fake love, Spring Day, On and the Wings short films.

Yeah and I think so BTS is having a storyline continuing, i.e, Save me webtoon, and also they are in the bighit universe where BTS, GFRIEND and TXT are related, in which it makes the Jin from BTS have powers, i.e, time travelling and we can also see TXT members time travelling in Run Away, also gfriend and txt are are from magic island and magic shop is located in magic island. They also have powers right from birth unlike BTS since they are not from magic Island but jin has, and instead of being happy he was not satisfied just like what is written in one of gfriend' s story book that even if we have these powers we will never be happy

The reason we’re surprised at how they can be feminine and yet so masculine at the same time is because society conditions us to think that you have to be one or the other. That in order to be masculine you have to be super manly, not care about your appearance, be messy ,etc. Like how Candace Owens was like “bring back manly men” as if you wearing/doing things feminine makes you less of a man and therefore less desirable.
Meanwhile the whole pop industry exists and be thriving despite those intolerant views!

When Jin kissed the statue to me, it was like Jin was forced to give his blood, sweat, and tears by the way the statue leaked the blood, the tears, and the sweat Jin transferred into it's soulless body which caused Tae to smile as he is the role of the (devil) statue and is happy that Jin listened to Tae and gave him his blood, sweat, and tears. BTS has sooooo many Easter eggs in their MVS and lyrics, especially in Blood, Sweat and Tears. It's great to hear other people's first interpretation and gain new insights, I didn't catch the Madonna 'like a virgin' reference the first time, so that was great!

Seokjin is in my opinion, is probably the one that takes fame the "oddest". He has said many times that as an idol, we watch them to be happy so he only wants to show us his "happy" side. In his newest single Abyss, he addresses the toll this has taken on him.
JK floating wasn't done in post. He talked once about how he felt like his hips were going to break in that scene while he was suspended. This video is based off of the book Demian by Herman Hesse; it's about surrendering to temptation and accepting that everyone has a dark side along with the light. Jin kissing the statue of Abraxas means he's accepting his dark side.
Thank you I couldn't remember the name of the deity that was protrayed by the statue just that it both male and female, good and evil.

Bahaha. This MV has literal formal dissertations about the themes and symbolism. There is SO much unpack, and it gets even deeper with the Japanese version which continues the story. Highly recommend. This era was so insane. The Wings trailers...phewww. Art. Pure genius. That deep thought is what they want from us and they constantly say that they love to hear the theories ARMY make about the meaning of each MV. There are not many artists like them. If any.

so they REALLY created such an amazing concept with the Wings series. Leading up to this music video, they released 7 'Short Films' one for each of the members solo songs. They aren't the full song, but small concept films that help pain a bigger picture. Back in the trilogy before this, the Most Beautiful Story in Life, they introduced a storyline, the Bangtan Universe. And in that series, the stories are pretty straight forward and presented in a very realistic context. Like a reality we can imagine. Then in Wings, the story becomes incredibly conceptual. Like a parallel warped universe. So what you see in the Wings series (including Blood, Sweat and Tears) is basically the further the characters get into the BU universe, the more time travel, the more fantastical and warped the perception is. It becomes a less familiar world.
What's cool about what BigHit has done here is they managed to tell the boys REAL honest stories and ties it to the BU story in parallel with that. One one hand, this song and music video is absolutely about their rise to fame after I Need U. It's about how they could NOT stop creating, they did not want to stop performing, they were working nonstop and loved it. Dionysus is kind of about that as well. It's their real, BTS' real story. But in the same music video you have symbolism and nods to the BU, like j-hope in front of the Pieta sculpture because his story in the BU is about his mother abandoning him. His solo song in the album is called MAMA but its about his real mother and how much he loves her and how much she supports him, etc. So theres a LOT of layers. This series was also heavily influenced by Demian, a novel which you guessed it is about the struggle between two worlds the real one and the world of illusion. Which is exactly what BTS music videos and stories are about. They mix the real with the false. Wings is sort of the peak chaos of this, fully in the illusion.
TLDR; BTS & BH are conceptual geniuses and there are layers to this that are hard to explain in a single comment lol
This song is actually about temptation and loss of innocence. Based as others have commented on the novel Damian by Herman Hess. Same guy that wrote Sidartha if you Ha to read that in college like 3/4ths of the rest of the world. The blood sweat and tears explained video will tell you in more detail and point out “Easter eggs” that you missed.

Hey guys, loving your reactions. The split scene with Jimin and Yoongi was built like that, two storeys, it is shown in the "behind the scenes" video. I think, from a cinematic viewpoint, Heartbeat is really worth showing them, for transitions and effects. My favourite MV of theirs, without a doubt, is "Not Today".
They're basically giving a GIANT middle finger to toxic masculinity. BTS say dress how you want, look how you want and don't give an eff about how other people think of you. It's 20 frikkin 20.
Also, I love how "feminine" styles are considered feminine now, but floral patterns, lacey collars, and frilly shirts were actually worn by royalty. Kings, Knights, and other such men. And I feel like we need to get rid of this notion that genders can only wear certain types of things. When throughout history men have worn skirts, dresses, or other tunic like garbs. And women wearing pants was once a taboo thing. Also, blue was seen as a "girly" colour and pink was a guy's colour until the 50s.
Suffice to say, BTS are embracing all of that and we love men who cancel toxic masculinity. Dress however TF you want.

This music video has a lot of symbols from Hermann Hesse’s book, “Demian.” Even the words that RM spoke were directly from that book. The organ player represents the character who mentored the main character named Sinclair. The mentor was Pistorius, an organ player for a large church. Demian was the other main mentor to Sinclair. The book is about understanding that there is good vs evil within each of us. I loved it and it helped understand this video more.

I love the idea that fame is the temptation that they eventually give into in the mv, or is what causes them to lose their youth. There are so many references to falling because of temptation in the mv and when you're in the spotlight you are much more likely to 'fall' bc of a small mistake due to the public attention. Ive watching this mv a lot and i like that you gave me more insight to what it could mean!

This MV is very heavy with symbolism underlining the message of the song. A couple of notes that might help -
This song is from their "Wings" album. Each of their albums (or series of albums) explore a specific concept, and to understand the songs it helps to see them in the context of the album and the overarching story being told. The Wings album is about youth coming of age; temptation, loss of innocence, and growth. The concept of the album is largely inspired by the book "Demian" by Herman Hesse, which was quoted throughout the WINGS films.
It can be assumed that the book RM is reading to Jungkook in the beginning of the MV is Demian. The quote he reads during the break is also from this book: "He too was a tempter; he, too, was a link to the second, the evil world with which I no longer wanted to have anything to do."
The piece Suga plays on the Organ is another direct link to the book - it is "Passacaglia in D minor" by Buxtehude. In the book the main character Sinclair has a mentor who is an organ player who plays this exact piece.
The drink being consumed by RM is absinthe, known for it's hallucinogenic properties (and for being illegal many places). It was also a popular substance particularly in artistic circles during the years Herman Hesse was writing.
The intermission showing Jin reaching for a balloon as it floats away. The balloon is a symbol of youthful innocence, which once lost cannot be regained.
The painting Jin is looking at in the beginning is titled "The Fall of the Rebel Angels" showing a battle between good angels and fallen angels.
The painting behind Jungkook on the swing is "The Lament for Icarus". Icarus who in his arrogance flew too high so that his wings were melted by the sun, causing him to fall to his death. There are actually multiple Icarus references; the painting behind V sitting on the balcony is "'Landscape with the Fall of Icarus".
Notable statues: several statues of Venus; goddess of love, seduction, and temptation.
"Perseus With the Head of Medusa" showing Perseus having defeated Medusa who could turn men into stone.
On the table the only thing to eat is an apple placed on each plate. The apple being the symbol of temptation, the fruit that gives knowledge of good and evil, causing a loss of innocence but ultimately growth.
They also included a quote from Nietzsche “Man muss noch Chaos in sich haben, um einen tanzenden Stern gebären zu können. [You must have chaos within you to bear a dancing star.]” it speaks of the inner conflict between good and evil, temptation and moderation, which is necessary to grow and mature.

When this song was released back in late 2016, the Armys were actually asking BTS to reveal the meaning behind this song. They didn't give a direct meaning, but the leader of the group, RM (who co-wrote this song along with their in-house producers, as well as the other members of BTS), said his main inspiration was from the book, Demian.Most of their songs actually have literary inspirations.. but more than anything, they write music that speaks of their own lives, they were trained to be the kind of musicians and performers that were not just exceptional but purposeful and intentional in their craft. Reason why their songs resonate so much sincerity and honesty. On top of this, they took on the responsibility of being a good example and a positive influence to many💜 The reason why they have such authority when they stand to perform before us is precisely because they own the very message of the song that they sing and dance to, and doing it like no other can. Talk about dedication and love for music...!😅💜
