While certainly not the fastest its definitely faster than most, in todays episode we upgrade an iBook G4 with solid state storage. Is it any faster? is it so fast it can beat a G5? Hell no but its definitely faster that the ""solid state storage"" that way in there before.. but how fast? Find out today!~

I loved this! Makes me miss using my old iBook. I still have it but it's still in pieces and needs a drive. Might have to play with it some! I remember using it with linux and in college as a wifi router and DVD player. This was 2017!

The translucent keyboard was from a iBook G3 snow. Same looking as a iBook G4 ... Identical only for the side and the keyboard.

You need to put a hard drive clicker in there! Then it will be authentic. My HDD in mine still works but I'm still going to replace it.

My iBook G4 all those years ago, shipped with MacOS X Tiger not Panther. It also included an upgrade disc for Leopard. I loved that machine.

I have one of these with 768 MB RAM. I want to upgrade it to 1 GB ram and a big SSD or sd card, but, man, the procedure for doing that on these Apples is insane! Typical PC laptop you have a couple screws and a panel to remove, pop out the old RAM chip pop in a new one, good to go. For right now, I'm going to deal with the RAM and HDD it has, but at some point I'm going to tackle taking it apart and upgrading it. 🙂
You might want to upgrade the OS....I think these things would actually run FreeBSD better. Most linux distros have dropped support for PowerPC G4 but FreeBSD still supports it. You should be able to dual boot using OpenFirmware.
The MacOS I have on mine is 10.4.11....that's what previous owner put on it (I got it from ebay). I would suggest using that or 10.5, I hear 10.5 actually runs faster on PowerPC G4. The only downside that I know of is that it means you can't run older 68k Mac software on it. (well there might be another emulator you can use for that, but there isn't one built into 10.5.) 🙂
Ram replacement is easy, you pop up the keyboard and undo the wifi card tray. The hard drive is a pain in the ass

I have bought a Notebook-Digital Memory Card SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC to IDE, 44 Pin Male Adapter, SD 2.5 Converter, Hard Drive Adapter Card, 3.0 inches, a 512G Micro SD Lenovo pro plus xc A2 and Lenovo 256G thinkplus pro plus xc A2 and by installing it in the connector of my iBook G4, like yours, from the same year, detects the micro SD, but when I want to format them and/or do the partitioning for Mac and use it as HD, the action bar does not advance me (formatting Mac OS with registration or partitioned for Mac)"?", I do not understand. You could just use a real ssd. You said that the ssd is the same size, however if you remove the casing you would find out it’s half filled with air and that it could easily fit together with an adapter into a 2.5 inch hard drive bay.

Upgrading from a hard drive to sdcard was the second best thing I've ever done to my Dell Inspiron 700m.
The first was the ram upgrade, and the third the wlan card upgrade.

I used a msata ssd on miniide adapter and is not as fast as you beleive…. This kind of mod only works fine when you open a heavy game but when you start the ibook not so well…

im not a fan of using SD cards as hd's. sure they make some that are intended for OS use but its still slower than a sata M.2 or direct SATA ssd
