- From old crappy workstation to server is the transformation possible? Should it be possible? Were our engineers too preoccupied with whether or not they could they didn’t stop to think if they should? In today's episode we seek the answer, so come traveler we have worlds to explore!
Thanks For Viewing!~ ❤

i absolutely love the chaos behind these videos, they always bring a smile to my face, and i always enjoy watching system setups that in theory shouldn't work absolutely chug along, this entire channel has a sort of mad scientist vibe to it and i love every minute of it :D

Alpine doesn't use sudo, it uses doas which basically does the same thing without a bunch of extra functions most people don't even know sudo has
One of the features missing from doas is privilege escalation.
I had so much fun watching this; I love how chaotic it is
3:49 *calls out on USB 3's extremely confusing naming scheme*
This is strictly a USB1.1/2.0/3.0/3.1 household
@@WindowsG USB 3.0 aka USB 3.1 Gen 1 aka USB 3.2 Gen 1
*seriously though whytf did they do this, it hurts my fucking ocd*
My NAS only has one optical drive, the only case fan is powered by jumper wires jammed into a USB header and I currently only have room for 2 drives as I removed the front cage with an extra 2.
I still have a lot to learn it seems. Using SFTP over SAMBA for now at least somewhat exceeds this.
That was just a fun video to watch thank you very much for that! :D Also your editing work is really great and I had a few good laughs with it~
Wish Druaga1 was still doing TH-cam. This is also a great channel. Good vibes just like Druaga1! Great job. Hope to see more setups in the future.
I use Fedora Server but maybe I should change it to Alpine
For my NAS I use Proxmox, it's not intended to be used as a NAS OS but it's just Debian underneath do I can manage my files and share using the command line and then use the Proxmox features like the nice web GUI for managing virtual machines.
I am a data hoarder like you lol.
The screws are similar to both older Apple hardware, and Compaq. as for the SSD Icy-Dock makes a tool-less 2.5 to 3.5 converter, mine has room for two 2.5 SSD/Sata drives.
Best NAS setup video I've ever watched!
You haven't seen my cursed NAS setup with alpine linux.
HP T620 with radeon texture corruption syndrome running 24/7.
you should take a look at ceph, it has erasure code by default unlike zfs and raid, is way easier to expand disk-wise or node-wise. although it's harded to setup since it's thought out for f-ing data centers
wdym noone uses display port i have been doing it for the past 4 years
And some older TV's have display port, plus display port to HDMI adapter is cheap also
I'd love to see a TV with display port but then again all my TV's are like 10 years old
Intel 3000 has USB3 support, so this 4:00 is probably USB3
What does the text at 0:17 say I'm on my phone and can't pause at the right time because of my fat fingers
WindowsG- bravo! awesome viedo-work! catch you later.📢
Heh thanks!~
The last time I edited my fstab file I somehow deleted my linux-lts kernel on arch... Idk how that happened
but why go with a old HP with 3 slots when you can get a old gaming case that can hold a dozen or so? And have even more options like more fan bays and take a larger board? And don't forget the old school rails option of using the 5 1/2 bay for a floppy but substituting a 3.5 inch hdd instead, that works too., after all there is some early Core i series that can have up to 16 hdds without a expansion card, and there's a AM3+ with up to 24 sata hdds.
Imagine THAT combination for a NAS, just hunt for motherboards with more sata slots or that come with sata expansion cards.
You could have ran tmux to split your terminal into multiple terminals so you can perform asynchronous tasks
Oh, huh didn't consider that.
Btw I honestly run Arch on a laptop-server. It's 3rd gen mobile intel but idle power consumption is great because it's a laptop.
8:12 Oh my... I miss Druaga1 concept now😂😂
Your making me angry.. That fan 'control' jumper solution. You get a iron and a switch or something and not whatever that is. Literately a bit of hot glue and a garbage pile switch a minimum!
*Angry noises angry noises...
i watched the first 20 seconds frame by frame i spent so long just to know that you keep a furry in your basement ah i love it (totaly didn't wraste 10 minutes for that xD)
Where is Arch ? :(
the dichotomy of wanting to commit computer war crimes while also owning a Mac
Your content satiates me.
My orignal NAS was an AM3 2 core CPU paired with 8GB of RAM and 3 1.5TB WD Green HDDs. This was a PC I pulled from the trash and had to zip tie the CPU cooler on, it SUCKED.
My new NAS is also from the trash, but this one's a rackmount server. I can proudly say I have acidently hit my server with my car.
Twice.

Are you still using this as your NAS? ^^
