Phyllis Hyman and Luther Vandross are the only two vocalists I've observed in my lifetime who literally turn the mic into the instrument by how they manipulate it to manipulate the mood and their vocal timbre. Both were vocal geniuses and both are sorely missed.
One of the greatest voices I've ever heard in my life....and her beauty is unmatched RIP Phyllis Hyman.....and she spoke so eloquently , the texting of her voice was silky
Phyllis Hyman is the best example of a " god given talent " here she is sick with cold and what ever personal issues she was going through and she sings perfectly. she always gave us fans 100% of herself. I'm grateful to her for that. she didn't have to share her talent with us, and she obviously did so at a huge personal sacrifice.
Ms. Hyman is still one of the best vocalist of our time and to prove that, she was so high when she performed this song, and was still flawless. The level of control she maintained in this song, particular her whistle, was breathtaking.
Her life and story are so tragic. The world lost of the greatest voices and she still doesn't get all the appreciation she deserves. Stars of today should be influenced by her flawless vocals and should pay tribute
YOU BETTA COME ON HERE AND WHISTLE!!!! These girls these days can barely sing on key let alone slide in a whistle and not miss a beat! The definition of true talent!!
I love Phyllis Hyman songs and I wish she was still her to make songs that mean something she truely is to me the greatest of all times. I just wish she knew she was loved by many!
wow i never new that was her whistling. i never knew a person could whistle like that, my whistle is a kazoo compared to that. oh she is really pretty. people take this as a lesson u just never know what a person is going thru so try to be their light. blessings to all!
Can you imagine how much vocal talent and discipline it takes to whistle in perfect pitch with a cold or whatever her malady may have been that night. With the level of emotional energy she expended night after night 48/52 weeks out of the year... I guess she really was" TIRED" or for sure sick and tire of being sick and tired. THE INCOMPARABLE PH!!!
I thought I saw this one but I haven't. I find something almost everyday that makes me fall in love with her more. Ahhh!! just makes me really sad that she's not here. She would be sh**ing on these so called artists who call themselves entertainers today.
Wow! When she was whistling, she seemed to be in some kind of trance, like she just removed herself into another level and takes you right along with her. You don't know where she's going and when she's like that you really don't care. That whistling is definitely on it. None other than PH. I can't even hum on pitch let alone whistle.
@kmaur21 FYI: The whistle register has nothing to do with whistling. It has to do with octave range beyond the modal and falsetto range. Minnie Ripperton, Betty Wright, Mariah Carey and Rachelle Ferrell have whistle register.
MY GIRL STILL JAMMIN WISH YOU WERE HERE TO SHOW THESE FAKE FEMALE ARTIST HOW IT IS DONE.YOU ARE THE REAL DIVA FOREVER NONE OF THEM CAN TAKE YOUR SPOT SONG BIRD.
It really is a tie. Yet I guess she seemed to be in a better place in terms of physical and emotional well being on David Brenner. I'm addicted to watching these videos, but at the same time it makes me so sad.
i really didn't count. if i remember correctly, here's the setlist. what you won't do for love, you just don't know, i'll never do you wrong, meet me on the moon, my funny valentine, living in confusion, old friend, whatever happened to our love, no one can love you more, take the a train, sophisticated lady, i got it bad, living all alone, and walk away. phew! she did all the in under an hour.
u aint lying. it's a shame so little is available when it's obvious someone has the goodies. :( i would have not been a ph fan if it weren't for the sophisticated ladies dvd.
Wow Jessica, you are so on point. I didn't know she performed Living All Alone in Japan. do you know how many songs she performed? I'm just wandering. :) At 3:03 that is soo intense. I mean that in a good way. And @ 4:42 the saxophonist threw in the pink panther theme, listen carefully. lol
you wasn't alone you have all of us and we could reach out to you but you didn't want us we listen to you faithfully and all you had to do was hold on and let us hear no more from you fellows but I guess it wasn't enough you wanted that man could make you feel special sometimes you don't get that man sometimes you get their promised order a dream or the idea of them would you never get that particular man because sometimes men cannot step up to the plate and be that man and I guess you didn't know that but you older than me so I would have I would have told you that because that's something that you need to hear instead of you being passed by what other crap you need just to hear sometimes that image of that man is just what it is that image it's not that man all the time cuz sometimes they come with baggage just like we do and it only be pretty so you would look for that man we were looking for your music and we got the rest in peace instead of you
PH you better work it. Whistling in perfect pitch still blows me away. I don't like using this word so I won't... Pepper H was/is one bad... "Revolutionary Petunia. Youngins checkout Alice Walker for an explanation.
Probably a combination of everything. Only those there that night really would know aspects of that night. Phyllis was a deep, Soulful, complex woman till the end. R.I.P.

Dang. Do you know how much voice control that takes. She came out the whistle and never missed a note. G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time).

I don't know which Living All Alone live version I like more, this one, or the one when she is on that late night talk show. I guess I love them both.
Ms Hyman, her sultry voice, a tour d' force, and a talent beyond measure.
The saxophone spoke to my soul in a completely unique way. No one can ever replace this beautiful woman. To me..she’s the best that ever did it
THIS IS WHY I LOVE THIS WOMAN...BAAAAAADDD!!!!
This was my jam back in the day. OMG. I miss her soooo much. Heaven needed her more.

OMG! That's alot. I think that her work ethic was real strong. I don't know if singers today would do that many in an hour.

Thanks for posting, Jusca! Have you seen other clips from this concert?
I'm lost. Why does everyone keep saying she's high??
Bc her husband introduced her to drugs so she struggled with them for years, so many think she was high during this show
POOR BABY WAS HIGH AS A KITE...RIP MS. HYMAN...
Wow that's the same thing that I was thinking. She was a very pretty woman!
Vera Cheeks exactly she was high ASF
Actually she was struggling with a cold. Please get your facts in order before commenting.
@@omarsankofa5362 she also did drugs..but I don’t know about being high this particular set
Do you know that to be a fact??
PH you better work it. Whistling in perfect pitch still blows me away. I don't like using this word so I won't... Pepper H was/is one bad... "Revolutionary Petunia. Youngins checkout Alice Walker for an explanation.
I'm not entirely sure. She does sound congested.
Do you know if Phyllis was sick during this concert.
Im thinking its part of performing for that type of crowd. I dont think theyre ready for her to SANG.

What's happened to her ? She couldn't sing higher notes.
She looks like depressed. Was it the reason that leads her to be suicide ?
manunchai songsaeng she had a cold in this one.
Phyliss had bi polar so she was depressed a lot and wouldn't take her meds because she didn't like the side effects.I hope she found peace
Probably a combination of everything. Only those there that night really would know aspects of that night.
