Oh no I just learned about her as I love looking at black entertainment history and every two weeks for my history class I have to pick a singer , actress, dancer, etc to look u and learn about. I had chosen mrs.hyman for this last project of the school year. Now I’m devastated that me and ms.hyman we’re never on this planet together at all. She was long gone by the time I was born.
Seems as if they were really having a lot of fun and in the holiday spirit. Phyllis was absolutely hilarious. Who would imagine that she was in so much pain internally.

It seems in this life, when we are blessed, it doesn't come without a curse. She was alone a lot. She was phenomenal, but probably wasn't able to find sustainable love.

Please keep spreading the word because most of our ppl think it is a sign of weakness or think that you can just snap out of it on your own. We have allowed ourselves to get used to the bizzare behavior of many of our family members and never do anything about it. ppl in every city there should be a 24 hour mental health crisis line and it is anonymous. Please act like you know and become proactive.
@akaziaj Well maybe because she she was lonely, and everyone knew it. She had also tried to commit suicide before this in 1991, but people had said they noticed signs of depression as early as '79. So it's not like that was a new issue or anything, I just wish the peopole who were close to her, would of tried to of helped her out more.

I wonder when this aired with that old BET logo and dotcom on display. Phyllis used to go nuts whenever she felt like it so I’m amazed she held it together during her interviews. I really hate how her career turned out. Phyllis Hyman is one of those artists that you should be able to say Phyllis and people know who you’re talking about. For all the work she put in, she’s virtually unknown. That’s one of the things that led to her demise. In the last year or two before her death she was in concert practically begging her record company to release her album. Not even death did anything for her sales or her status and I think that’s absolutely shameful.
Just yesterday, my lash tech told me she was a Cancer w Sag moon, I said you have Phyllis Hyman's placements. She said who? Listen I had her go down a PH rabbit hole and she thanked me. The whole world should know about her.

As well, mental illness does have multiple layers like you said, but I still would never take my life. It's easy for us to speculate about what those around her should or could have done, but the truth of the matter is that treating mental illness has multiple layers and barriers that include access to affordable care and in Phyllis' case time off to heal. Though I miss her, I respect her choice.

According to her bio she had great love and respect for Eric and said he would always have a job even if he had to come in a wheelchair.
Read autobiography on her made me love her even more she had a huge heart.
