she doesn't come across to me as "too sensitive". I think she sang from a real place inside of her.. and in order to give a true performances she had to relive whatever traumas she was referencing through her song. Check her "Live in Tokyo" performance of "Old Friend". As a performer on a much much much smaller scale, I had a similar experience where.. a song I had written out of a dark and lowly place was popular with people.. and they would request that I perform this song.. but to do so took me emotionally down the rabbit hole.. and that's where I discovered the answer to the question, "Why do artists sing other people's songs?".. it's because there is an in-built emotional distance in performing someone elses material. Imagine writing a song about the death of your mother.. and what she meant to you.. and then having that song become a sensation.. and you have to go on tour singing that song every other night.. peeling the scab off that wound over and over and over again. The nature of the business of music does not suit Artists whose work is built on emotional pain. It can become overwhelming.

CLASSY, BEAUTIFUL and Phyllis had the most jazzy uniqueness in her voice. Her performances were always EXCELLENT.......GREAT..GREAT..MUSIC!
Beyonce my A$$, this is a song bird to the millionth power. This is talent right here. Lets see Beyonce sound half as good with out a mike. Phyllis did`nt even need that mike. Sad she is gone.
Thanks ~ Beyonce is rather mediocre compared to dozens of others in her community ~ Her father made certain nobody better than her was in her group to make her stand out ~ All good marketing techniques. By all accounts she was extremely driven and an insanely hard worker. In other words ~ she wanted to make it. She did.
