No, I've never owned this tool.
When I worked at the Toyota dealership, the actual factory tool (not the Schlay version, which can be found here:www.autotoolworld.com/Schley-... ) was part of a set of special Toyota tools that we could check out when needed. It was nice. Now that I am on my own, and $$$ is tight, I need to start buying... or making tools.

I also give a little foreshadow for my Timing belt video, which I finished filming back in March, but I haven't had time to edit completely yet, because it is really long and my computer and program crashes excessively for anything over 10 minutes. Yay!
I have unintentionally tricked many of you into thinking that I am a full-time TH-camr who's only job is to provide you with these random automotive tutorials, BUT NOPE!! This is just something I do for fun in my free time, so the videos come as they will on my own time.

@@FayeHadley lol....I always just use my floor jack handle. Especially when removing one that had threadlocker on it
I use a large 6' plumbing pipe, it fits over any handle, it's one piece. my cheapo 2.5 ton jack from Wally world, has a 2 piece handle, I don't trust it to do the job. It's made of "Chineseisum", as AvE says.
I stumbled upon your channel like a month ago by accident. I was watching some other automotive stuff and fell asleep for a couple hours and woke up and one of your videos were on. I watched one and subscribed. You are awesome. Cute, funny, and you know your stuff. Keep up the good content girl.😁👍
I like how you think outside the box to do your shop repair. For me as a certified RV technician I get jobs that require thinking outside the box for ideas to do some repairs. For I got some hand made tools to do special jobs over the years both in RV service and my own auto service work at home. Keep up the great service work!!

After 30 yrs of wrenching, my toolbox has a whole lot of shop-made tools,that did the job at a much lower cost
My father owned a shop, and I started working there at a really young age. I took in as much information as I could about his tools and what there were used for:) really odd stuff:) When he passed away a little over 20 years ago I inherited his wonderful collection of tools. I still have a few things I have no clue what there for or why they were made!:)
I had old men showing me how to fix forklifts built before they were born. The factory didn't supply special tools, so we had to make them. Now I'm teaching myself how to fix old Kawasaki motorcycles, and those factory tools are also nonexistent! So,I make what I need!
Anyone who has done a variety of repair work has learned how to modify wrenches and build gadgets to get the work done. I remember building a hub wrench for a farm tractor on something that resembled a monster truck, it was like 4-5/8 hex about 5-inches deep. These young people are taught to buy everything to support the marketplace, one of the secrets of public education funded by the government.
The quality of your videos is so good. I love watching them. I really hope you get some generous sponsors soon. Toyota and Snapon would be a good start. Keep it up

I wish this knowledge was available like 2 years ago when I try to change the timing belt of my 98 pathfinder by myself, such a nightmare to remove and then torque the bolt. 💖

Love this. I made basically the same tool when I did my MR2 timing belt. Unfortunately the step drill bit I used was too small and had to manually remove enough material so I could get the socket through

So, I did something similar. As a welder who didn’t want to go buy a tool I’d use maybe a handful of times, I welded some bolts on a hook shaped piece I had laying around and a shaft. It worked great.
NIIICE!!!! I wanted to make a 3rd tool - the welded version, but I am a pretty bad welder.... I mean, it may work, but it doesn't look pretty :)

You can sharpen your bits between each cut on a bench grinder. Took me a few times to get it down, but man, what a diff! Fresh cut with some drilling lube and they just keep drilling! The bits get shorter with time, for obvious reasons but they keep making holes! Nice tool you made! I have a ton of custom tools I've made over the years. Little ingenuity goes a long way!

Thanks for the videos I work on just my old cars like my old 68 fastback mustang or 46 Chevy I have mostly old cars but every once in a while i will work on the newer cars but I enjoy the older ones plus it’s fun doing body work and paint love your personality nice to see a young women into this field keep up the good work your videos are great thanks

I installed Underdrive Pulleys on my '96 Mustang GT; 4.6L. I used the old fan belt. I cut it in half; wrapped it around the pulley - counter to the force I was/am/is/will be applied. I held it in place with small pieces and strips of Gorilla Tape. I did not want to mess about with the belt moving about; slipping and/or falling off.
On the Crank Pulley, I made 150 ft/lbs, and on my Water Pump Pulley, I made 20 foot pounds... I had absolutely no issues with the taped belt (old cut one). I do not think one needs to go to the store whatsoever...
Pretty much every Car "Guy" (you too Faye) is doing their build(s) on a tight budget. This one costs at most a roll of Gorilla Tape.
It's easy, smart, and the cheapest tool I've had to buy to date with my build.

I made myself my own tool out of flat stock steel with grade eight hardware. . Works great on my 2003 Toyota Tundra . I used Rock auto for timing set..

Nice job Faye. I too have a tool box full of many shop made tools. Unless you work on one specific brand and model all the time, sometimes the cost of certain specialty tools are not worth it.
Your wood pulley holder was still better than my axle seal driver 9000 made out of pcv pipe fittings 🤣 i drove one seal about half way before it died

I remember doing a timing belt on an older Honda Civic, didn't have a chain strap wrench, so I jacked car up, put a jack stand with a thick piece of rubber in between the stand cradle and crank pulley lowered most of the weight of the front of the car on stand, them proceeded to take the big bolt out. Sometimes you have to improvise to save some money.

I made one of those with two flat bars that where maybe 1" wide or so. Joined two ends together with a bolt to make a V shape. Then on the other side I put the bolts in for holding the pully. This design allowed it to fit different sized pullies by spreading them apart and didn't require any large holes drilled

@@Texaca unfortunately I left it in a wearhouse a few years ago. Its not really complicated. Basically like a large pair of scissors without handles and pins or bolts on the ends.

making custom tools is half the fun of the job! bonus points if you can repurpose old parts - my favorite oil filter wrench when nothing else will do is made of a 1/2" extension with a small block Ford timing chain welded to it. It's called the mangler.

The easiest way to get those crank bolts out was to make sure of the direction of rotation then put a socket on a breaker bar then turn the crank in the same direction till the bar touches the frame. Then you go inside and crank the engine for a second. The starter will break it loose every time. We did it all the time at the dealer
Won't you still need a crank pulley holding tool to tighten the pulley for the reinstall?

You should be so proud that you strut like a chicken with a bustle(sp?). Good job Faye! Why pay the big bucks for such a straightforward and simple tool. It's the principle of it. Version 2.0 is a cranking success.
Funny, I did the same thing back in the early 1980s, used a 1/8" flat steel scrap I had lying around, and still have it today, except it now has multiple holding bolt holes drilled around the center crankshaft bolt access hole for different manufactures harmonic balancers that I have come across, then later I have had to drill out both ends to accommodate even more varieties harmonic balancers that I have come across over the years.
I have made dozens of specialty tools over the years as you will too over time, nice addition to your collection.

Great car, I had two of them over the years, still have one and retired the other at +550,000 miles on it, the floorboards 100% rusted out on it, when I would drive through a puddle, it flood the inside of the car, it was that bad.
