Toyota dealer p/n 00295-00103 is what I used in this video, but the FSM actually recommends Seal packing: Part No. 08826−00100 or equivalent... I am determining this to be the equivalent ;)
Install your water pump within 5 minutes after FIPG application.

Due to the high cost of taking my truck to a repair shop, I decided to replace the timing belt myself. Your videos were helpful and took away some of the anxiety of doing this repair for the first time. Thanks, and keep making videos!

Thanks for posting this. I just did the timing belt on my 2002 4Runner. Belt broke while driving and was happy to find out that the 3.4 is a non interference engine. Autozone carries the complete kit as well if you need one ASAP . You are awesome and your videos help . Keep them coming 😊

@@stokular I no longer have this vehicle but I think I had about 240,000 on the clock . I know when I sold the truck it was at almost 300,000
Same happened to me. It didn't break, it shredded to crumbs. It was a miracle it was driving in the first place.
Faye, I watched my father assemble and rebuild engines. I remember how thorough he was.

As I have said many times, I love watching you do anything.
I wish I'd seen this before I did the water pump on my car - the explanation of the variety of tools you used to clean the gasket surface would have been very helpful to have when I was buying stuff ahead of the job. I'm sure I'll need to clean a mating surface again at some point, so thanks for that!
My 2004 Tundra is sitting outside right now with a broken timing belt. Your video is the second one I watched. The common element that sticks out is the problematic tensioner bolts. They are the ones that often are stuck and get damaged or broken during removal. I will start with wd-40 on all bolts that I have to remove. Thank you again.
I don't even own a Toyota, but found myself watching. IDK, timing belt jobs for some reason always interest me.
Thanks for the video. I was installing the timing belt on a 1997 Tacoma and was thrown by the crank shaft belt marks. I watched several videos trying to figure it out and my book shows it going straight down from TDC. Nobody showed the position of the crank belt mark and I was consistently coming up 45 degrees clockwise from TDC. Watching your video I caught one glimps of the mark at 45 degrees clockwise from TDC. Upon looking closely at the crank sprocket I saw the dimple! I installed the belt and rotated the crank many many times and all my marks came up perfect ever time. Thanks again. Keep the vids coming.

I did a 01 4Runner a while back and discovered someone before me tightened the tensioner pulley bolt so hard the threads stripped out of the oil pump housing. It was nothing a heli-coil and some foul language couldn't fix.
Also - I'm in the habit of applying anti-seize to any bolts/studs that clamp stationary items, eg., those for water pump and timing cover. My obsessive use of corrosion inhibitors on hardware is due to the extreme conditions present in the rust belt, and that a lot of our customers keep their cars forever. So next time around I'll be doing the job without hardware struggles.
Any steel bolt into aluminum gets AntiSeize.

Great video, Faye. I appreciate the fact that you use genuine Toyota sealant and actually torque the fasteners. That's the RIGHT way to repair cars! That crank pully holding tool is pretty ingenious too. Keep up the great work.
My 11 year old son inherited his grandmother's 4runner, same motor. He was excited to rip in and change fluids.....but she just did every fluid. After this video he knows what he is doing this summer. Thanks for including torque specs! Now he just needs a chicken.

Excellent job Faye. I attempted to do my 98 4Runner and was not able to get the pulley off. It was like not bolts were the correct thread. That was many moons ago. I swallowed my pride and Thad the shop finish it :/. I sold my 98 4Runner, one of the spark plug was under water, yet it still started. 360k. Awesome truck. I just bought a 2001 SR5 4Runner, and I will attempt to do the timing belt job soon. Again thanks for your excellent video, and the cameos by your talented chickens.

Once I had to get the flywheel off of a Hyundia Excel, so I dropped the oil pan and put a piece of a 2x4 between the crankshaft and the block. It worked like a charm.

@Faye Hadley @8:22 One warning people should have about using FIPG on a water pump (the reason it says for oil pans only). If a person puts too much gasket goo, then it can squeeze out of the edges, both on the outside and on the *inside*. On the outside it obviously doesn't do any harm, but if it squeezes out on the inside, then then rubber-like globs will eventually break off. Once free in the coolant, the chunks will flow with it until it gets stuck in a restriction, typically the little passages in the radiator core. This happened to me on a 3VZ-E in a 4Runner after having a shop do the belt & pump... Some of the the FIPG chunks were visible through the radiator cap, plugging the radiator passages (there were a LOT, & appeared to have been chopped up by the impeller), which contributed to an overheating issue... and maybe a blown headgasket, although that may simply have been the 3VZ :-). Great videos btw, I may tackle my 03 Tacoma 5VZ belt/pump after watching this. Keep them coming!

@16:50 kudos for mentioning the fact that the timing marks on the belt will never line up with the timing marks on the crank and cam gears once the engine is turned. Had a guy once who was in a panic about that, and I liked to have never been able to convince him that the marks on the belt weren’t that important once the belt was on, that what was important was that the timing marks on the crank and cam gears lined up with the timing marks that were stamped/cut on their respective “back covers” once the engine was turned over a couple of times.
I've never had good luck with those stickers. The ink always fades or washes off when I clean the engine bay. I usually pick an area of clean paint, such as the radiator support or fender, write the info with a sharpie, and spray some clear coat sealer over it.

Those stickers usually come with a clear tape to put on top after you write all your info also makes it tamper proof

I cant get the harmonic balancer off. I have a big 3 claw remover and 2 long wrenches heat and penitrating oil. I took out the radiator. I can turn the engine now with the puller, im scared im gonna break something. I also used the breaker bar on frame and bumped the motor to break the harmonic bolt. Thats scary. If i cant get it tomorrow im going to have to reassemble and go to a professional. Thank you again for the great video.

Just one thing ive notice that you didnt mention the keyway on the crank to match with the pulley...but still sUUUUUupper beautiful! Love it
Was interesting to watch a different technique than I was taught for removing/torquing that crank bolt. I'll have to look into making that tool just to have around.

I used to wrap masking tape couple times around the regular swivel to limit the wobble :)
It works. Masking tape is great because it holds the position as you're approaching your target.
Although I don't own a Toyota yet, I learn something new with every video you make. You made the gasket application look easy, applying makeup counts as practice. Finally, you answered a long burning question, smooth side versus rough side of a washer. Finally, one of my first toy/tools was a torque wrench. Figured out how to use it, it was a sigh of relief to put a number on just how tight things should be. Happy Day, Happy Faye, Happy Chicken

Took me like 6 attempts and 2 hrs to learn how to install the timing belt b4 I knew the side that is not tensioned must be on the left tensioner side. Btw great video

I would rub some real good grease into idle pulley bearings, tensioner pulley bearings as well, you take a look very little...it sealed with nylon seal, so we can use sharp metal pin to pry out, rub good grease in put back seal....I found out way more lasting.....I tried all of my colleaques cars....kept running...longer life...

Great job. You are smart to buy the longer torque wrench to tighten the crank nut. 215 lbs is no fun with a shorter wrench. My favorite part is when you pulled the pin . My 2002 tundra will need this again soon. Thanks for sharing.

I had a mentor tell me once "never push a wrench" 😄 and I sort of keep that in my mind during high torque situations, because you can slip and bust a knuckle, but you have more control with your muscles when pulling!! But most importantly is that you get the job done, so do whatever is best for you!!!😃
You could also use warm water to clean the coolant left behind after the water pump was removed. That's what Eric from South Main Auto did when he did this same job on a Honda Pilot.

Hello there! I am a toyota fan. Thanks for your info. I just wanted to share that I like using AISIN water pumps, MITSUBOSHI timing belts, TIMKEN/KOYO/NSK/NATIONAL bearings, NGK plugs and wires, and DENSO parts on toyotas.
It's 1 in the morning just got off work served myself some dinner flipped on some 🐥 Faye 🐥 good end to my day.
Your camera angles and explanations are very detailed and a lot better than some of the other TH-camrs but you leave out some key information like there are two dots on the crankshaft gear one for TDC that's on the back of the sprocket and one at the front for where the line on the timing belt lines up with the gear and you didn't talk about the dot on the front of the sprocket....
I’ve had a water pump leak on a 4cyl Camry water pump because I missed a little piece of gasket. A lot easier than the v6 to back up and fix. On the bearings I actually reused mine, they felt better than the Chinese replacements, Cloyes kit. I was disappointed in cloyes

I did the 3 timing chain issues on a 2001 ranger 4.0 great truck but as you know the engine has to come out. Local garage wanted 3,000$.. I've done two of them I don't want to do anymore Haha 😁 love all videos Faye.
