    Great explanation of the entire process, thanks!

    Awesome video!!! I'm taking the rotating assembly of my old Chevy 250 straight six to Myrtle Beach to get balanced. It's really neat to see the process. I'm excited to take a slow old truck engine and make a little screamer out of it!

    Neat stuff, i work in a machine shop and we overhaul and repair big engines and do some crankshaft work but we dont do any thing like this, love to watch and learn new things!!

    Wow, I knew this was done. But have never seen it done. This kind of engine building stuff amazes me. Actually any type of precision machining i find intriguing. Especially old school stuff. Sure a C&C can do amazing stuff today. But to think we have and had guys that had the skills to do what a computer does today almost a 100 yrs ago. And made stuff during WW-2 that helped us win the war on two fronts is amazing to me.

    That looks like a very tedious process. and it looks easy to mess it up. So, I know it must be expensive. Great video very interesting.

    DAVID, I NEED TO ASK YOU A TECHNICAL QUESTION. WITH PONTIAC MOTORS THE BLOCK IS STANDARD FROM SMALL CUBIC INCH TO BIG CUBIC INCH. SO BASICALLY THE CRANK FROM A 326ci ALL THE WAY UP TO A 455ci ARE BASICALLY ALL THE SAME WEIGHT GIVE OR TAKE. FROM WHAT I KNOW IS THAT A CRANK IN A PONTIAC 326ci IS HEAVIER THEN THE CRANK IN A CHEVY 327ci WHICH CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG WEIGHT IN AT 54LBS. WHERE AS A PONTIAC CRANK WEIGHTS SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 60-70LBS AND WHAT IS THE EXACT WEIGHT OF A PONTIAC (326)CRANK AS OPPOSED TO A SBC CHEVY CRANK.

    I keep wondering how they did this job back in the 1930s in Indy and Grand Prix cars.
    They were turning some pretty high RPMs even back then.

    I wander if there is cylinderwall drag is fractured in with all the balance process

    I would like to hear/learn, above what rpm. secondary inbalance starts to play evil. I will spin the air prop under 3200 rpm. can I remove dampering axles all togeter from Honda F 2 l.

    Thanks! Just need to find a good crankshaft grinder that understands you machine a crankshaft to weight/horse power of vehicle. Clevite guide to bearings clearance.

    Refreshing to see someone who knows what they are talking about. Anyone who has seen Barum Engines laughable work, with a worn out machine and no real grasp will know what I mean. Even their UJs are adding vibration.

      Chris, this would be considered a "internally balanced" engine correct? and if you drill holes in your flywheel and harmonic balancer it would be externally balanced? just curious, thank you for your input.

    Does a balanced crankshaft effect possible max rpm range?

      I have two Buick engines both a 350. One is stock standard and the other has weight matched pistons and rods. One will hit 5000 rpm before it sounds like its going to die, and the other hits 5500 rpm. That's actually a pretty significant difference. I know it's not the most scientific answer but there does seem to be something to it.

      The crank the rods end caps and wrist pins is what gives u more rpm usually the force on the crank at 6000rpm is like 10,000 pounds the balance helps alot to keep more weight off of the crank without trying to create vibration spin a wheel with some weight on one side

    do they really do all this on every shaft made on factory autos

    • @Pro2ndAmnd
      @Pro2ndAmnd 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope. The counterweight mass is engineered to be extremely close to being finished balanced beacause a production engines parts are standardized and never changed, hence you can design a counterweight for exactly that combination. You can’t do that when your crank has to accommodate pistons and rods from various manufacturers and design combinations. It’s basically a Production engine vs Custom.
