Hey, Makeup Geeks! I’m so excited to be introducing a brand new series on my channel, Pretty Smart! Pretty Smart videos will cover all things makeup education-how-to’s, tips, tricks, hacks…you name it! Makeup and teaching are my two passions in life, so I wanted to combine the two to bring you these fun and informational videos. What about the UPPER lash line liner? Pencil, gel, shadow, etc. to line?? Type of brush if shadow?
Any special notes for contact lens wearers? I am fairly new and still trying to figure this out!
I also wear contacts and I prefer either pencil or gel eyeliner on my upper lash line😊
Jen, I have very sensitive eyes, but I have found out that lining your upper waterline with a Kohl eyeliner works really well. Kohl is not a brand, but a type. It is made specifically to go into your waterline. Clinique has one that is called The Skinny Pencil (about $20 at Sephora), I think. They have a regular size one also, however, I am messy and my eyeballs will burn and itch if I sort of touch them with makeup. When you line your upper lashline, you kind of have to pull your lid up to expose the roots of your lashes. You then line pretty much over top of where the root comes out of your eyelid. this is called "Tightlining". It is a great trick for everyday wear while making your eyelashes appear thicker without too much effort. You don't even need to wear mascara or any other makeup! Don't use eye shadow on your upper waterline and be extremely careful when lining your lower waterline with liner (a kohl pencil, again is best). You do not want to cover your actual tear duct as this is a cause of infection because your tear ducts will be clogged. Makeup just doesn't look as good when your eyes are red and splotchy. I hope this helped at least a little. Have a great day!
The only thing I noticed with wearing contacts is not to wear anything to creamy on the waterline because it can smug and get on your contacts. I personally use the NARS larger than life long wear eyeliner. As far as the upper lash line it depends on what kind of eyeliner look you want. If you want a smoky look I would use a dark eyeshadow. I personally think starting out with a pencil or a liquid pen is the easiest for learning eyeliner.

Thank you! I am not learning by any means..lol! I am over 50! haha, but I have only had contacts for a month! I don't think I am going to make it though as my eyes are SO dry (to due a medical condition) that I don't produce enough tears to wet the lenses :(

Haha...thanks for your tips too! Please see my response above. My tear ducts have been cauterized closed for about 10 years due to chronic dry eye, so I don't have to worry about clogging them, but thanks so much for the time you took to help me out! I really appreciate it!!!

This is so fun! I love these videos. I recently decided I was going to "tight line" my eyes. My eyes watered up and the black liner ran and got all over the place. 😆 "Tight lining" and water lining are not for me. 😂😂😂

what do you do when your transitional area and crease are both the same because your eye space is so small :(
Zaynah Doesn'tlikefullnames use lighter colours in your crease/transition instead so it's not as harsh

All of them!Haha but if you haven't won the lotto I'd recommend Cocoa Bear, Creme Brule and Corrupt as standards for any eye colour!After that just any colour that takes your fancy because they're all great!

I really love this series. I've been playing with makeup since I was 10 and consider myself quite good at the art, but watching your videos is an awesome reminder that we can always keep learning!
Just wanted to add one thing about the lower lash line (something I always do). If you shade the outside line in dark colours and then go lighter as you go towards the inner corner, it helps with a wide eyed look. Also, if you use a white pencil in the waterline, it helps open up the eyes, future contributing to a doe eyed look :)

Thanks for the breakdown! I like to use one brush to apply and another (clean) brush to blend with... any tips for how to manage that without buying 2 of every brush? I've been using my crease brush as the clean blending brush.

personally I do an all over quick color, build up the crease, all over lid color, outer color, add a little more of the all over color, inner eye, under eye. as
aaaand I didn't finish my comment lol. if you do all over color, crease, all over color it helps you blend and build up color pretty easily.
+Karolina Moore Thank-you so much! Suddenly I feel like I can actually accomplish this! All I've ever done is use an all-over skin tone colour everywhere just to hide veins. For once I'm excited and not intimidated! Thanks for replying!
+Plaid Panda you can also use a concealer or a primer as a base before putting down an all over color
+Plaid Panda I'm in the same position as you, but I'm getting better. An eyeshadow primer will really cover veins on your eyelids! I used to not use a primer, but I recently got one and it's amazing. I got the L'oreal Magic De-Crease primer and I recommend it! It's tinted so it will definitely cover any veins and it will prevent creasing of your shadow.
The teacher in her comes out in this series. 😊 I love watching all of her videos; especially when she does the pallet comparison around Christmas.

What goes into making our favorite eyeshadows, lipsticks, etc?
I use a super tiny brush in the waterline with gel liners because they're blacker and wear longer and it works perfectly

Cocoa Bear, Bitten, Creme Brule, and Americano :) Use the outer V brush for Americano in the outer corner, crease brush for Cocoa Bear in the crease, and Creme Brule above crease. Use foiled shadow brush and put Grandstand or In the Spotlight on the lid. XOXO

I am a beginner in makeup and recently purchased an ecotools brush set. However, the brush that is marked as an angled crease brush and another brush that looks like the crease brush you used in the video. How do I know what brush is for what purpose if there both marketed as crease brush? Thank you so much really helpful video.
I probably have the same eco-tools brush set as you! Honestly there really isn't a rule about what brushes should go where. It's mainly what works for you, typically the crease brush is the really fluffy one that is vertical. The angled one is the brush where the bristles are slightly slanted (however I have used that in the crease and it works well too because ecotools makes their brushes fluffy) I hope I could help you a little bit! The eco tool brushes are GREAT! :D
