      Alexandra I love your DUDE playlist, it's wonderful! I would love if you could do a playlist similar to DUDE playlist reviewing make up styles/trends around the world (i.e. Douyin or Ulzzang make up) as well as decades make up. It would be awesome. i love how she doesn't say that one placement is the correct one and the other is not, instead she explains the effects that it creates and i find that magical!!

    • @alexferrrnadas1410
      @alexferrrnadas1410 2 ปีที่แล้ว +54

      She did imply that some of the makeup looks are bad though - saying that if she added more shadow underneath her brow near the corner of her eye it would be ‘’even worse’’ + saying ‘’it’s unflattering’’ about the lid covered in dark shadow.

    • @ayannanevaeh2953
      @ayannanevaeh2953 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@alexferrrnadas1410 at least on her eyeshape though. All of them would look different on other eyes but it's still very useful information

    • @ashleys4652
      @ashleys4652 2 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      She clearly states what is correct placement. The left side is described as "magical and uplifting" the right is described as "making her look older, unflattering, and closing in the eye". This is why it's a great tutorial. You might want to watch again.

    Well I had a big date last night and screwed up the eyeshadow had to start over, I use a card to get the “line “ and it kept leaving a little mark , and without the card they aren’t even , haha I started over and tried not to let the card touch my face - not that any one asked 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🙏🏻oh well it’s the community here they get it

    This is probably a great exercise to try for anyone who wants to figure out what looks best on their own face! And it’s probably worth repeating every now and then because tastes and fashions change (and eyelids have a tendency to migrate over the years…). LOL. Thanks for the great content!

    Great demonstration! I have puffy monolids that that completely cover my lashline and I found that putting a dark color on my lid close to my lashline and fading it out as I go up actually helps make my eyes look less puffy. I would love to see you do makeup on models with more challenging eye shapes! (e.g, very hooded eyes, close set eyes, wide set eyes, small eyes, puffy monolids, eyes with large epicanthal fold)

    • @Corn22

    • @тоска-р1о

      I do also the 4th one too, not monolidded but epicanthic fold, not too puffy. I dont use as much product as in this video, usually trying to stray very close and just like 1/4th an inch above that, and I usually use a lighter shade as well but I really enjoy how it does seem to open up my eyes more, from the space inner corner that folds down to also just my outer edge.

    I'm gonna be alone in this comment, no doubt, but I actually prefer the second eye shadow placement best on you! The first one looks kinda washed out while the second looks more sophisticated (I'm talking about your first eye shadow scenario, obviously, not the second one). I'm going to try it out on my deep-set, hollowed eye shape tomorrow...🙂

    What I *love* about these theorycrafting videos is how instructive they are about principles and ideas that underscore the *why* of technique to complement the *how* that Alex does so well, but is also well-tread territory for the rest of BeauTube.
    It’s what sets Alex apart - seeing the *why* teaches the viewer the tools to adapt technique. It’s what’s missing from so much of the rest of BeauTube, even channels I also like, subscribe and watch.
    Adapting to hoods, or unevenness - the natural anatomical variation that gives every face unique identity. That’s why Alex’s content outstrips everywhere else for being the right beauty content that we need right now.

    That's really interesting to see the difference. For me, I find your eye with the dark shades placed where you say they shouldn't be placed more engaging. When you're speaking I'm looking at that eye. The other eye looks prettier (more ethereal) but I am not engaged by it, whereas the dark shades (more earthly?) are more engaging & drawing me in. Great comparison! I really don't know why I am drawn more to the darker made up eye?

  • @agresticumbra
    @agresticumbra 2 ปีที่แล้ว +29

    Okay, my observations only: I think in the first round, the white on the inner lid makes the lid look puffy, which doesn’t enhance your eye. The dark on the inner corner, and white in the outer corner, makes your eye (to me) look larger, overall.
    In the second round, the white on the lid doesn’t look as puffy as R1, but still makes your lid stand out more than your eyes. Actually, I don’t think the dark all over the lid on the left looks all that aging, has a vintage feel, and if a not-white was in the crease, even if it’s just your blush or bronzer in the crease, it would look nifty.

    I actually think that the eye shadow in the inner corner looks more sexy and creates an almond shape! The dark on the outside brings forward what I call the "bumb" of the bone under the eyebrow, doesn't fit me at all with my deep sockets 😭

  • @vaguesombre7455
    @vaguesombre7455 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    Thank you for this, this is an eye-opener 😁 ! Having very round and protruding eyes, it is hard to use light shimmery colors on the lids without enhancing the roundness. My everyday make-up is 5:35 but I put the lighter color close to the lashline in a crescent shape. And I blend my crease very low, down to the top of the lid, to push back that part that is round. I find it makes my eyes longer, contoured. I dunno if this technique is a thing or if it's all in my head haha.

    I think in the first look, it's actually hard to see the "baggy-ness" on the left eye because the white almost completely erases shadows. It would be cool to see a full shadow look that breaks these "rules" just to see how far you can bend them.

I’ve always ever worn eye makeup and am pretty standard in application-I’ve always done it like your left (our right) side. Stuck in the early 2000s I guess. I then saw your video on hooded eyes as I’ve had the realization that I have slightly hooded eyes and finally accepted it. And now this video. I just have to say that your videos are amazing to a basic bitch like myself. You make makeup APPROACHABLE. Every video is like a master class. And I trust you. Thank you for creation accessible content and not just full glam, product pushing, or viral TikTok flex videos. I love this tutorial bc it can be applied to eye shape and it makes it *make sense.*
    I've never understood why the darker look on my lid looks better for me but weirder on other people. It's the facial architecture. I have prominent (sitting forward in the eye socket) eyes, which is like the exact opposite of hooded eyes. You can't see my brow bone, and the only crease you see is an extra fold in my eyelid. lol. (Which I used to mistake for the crease).
    I'm realizing the goal is to "define what you got" and create definition or reduction where you need to with the light and shadow.

    "And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.
    The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works.
    Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone NOT FOUND written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire." (REVELATION 20:12-15 NKJV)
    Today, while you are still alive and able, may you repent from your sins, believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that JESUS CHRIST is your Lord and Savior, so that through Him, your name will be written in the Book of Life.
    "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever BELIEVES in Him
    should not perish but have everlasting life.
    For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved." (JOHN 3:16-17 NKJV)

    Sooo helpful! I've been watching a ton of your vids to get inspo for stage makeup - I play in a band. In Texas. In the summer. Would be amazing to see one dedicated to products/techniques for long wear especially when SWEATING. For instance, since I'm up on a stage I always want to contour the heck out of my double chin/neck area, but I always fear that it's just gonna melt off and I'll be outed as a fraud 😂And more general tips for what works vs what doesn't work for stage and photographs, where the lighting can make the face lose dimension. is the answer more nuanced than just "more makeup"?
    thanks as always, you're my favorite makeup channel by far!! 🥰

    I have wide set far apart eyes so I think the second way would look better on me to put the dark shadow in the inner part 😮 wow so interesting

    Maybe I’m crazy, but when the lighter shade was on the outside at the beginning I thought it actually looked really nice and lifted.. is that just me???

    Are you an artist... Well, I mean obviously... But like do you draw, paint or whatever? Cause the way you view makeup is very artist like... Shadow placement works the same way in art... Absolutely imperative to your finished piece. One wrong or missing shadow placement and your piece (or look) is destroyed.

    Wow!! This was so crazy. Your descriptions were so accurate. You are so good at make-up. Glad I stumbled upon your videos :) I'm needing help finding the right shade of contour and bronzer and exact placement of them.. a video with how u get so DEWY would be awesome. Or how to pick the right products. Which brands you prefer. Drug store alternatives etc. Just some ideas I would love to sèe💡

    Crazy, because I am always jelly of people who can wear a grungy dark eyelid because when I try that it looks AWFUL! And now I know why. Except for those people who rock it. Rude.

    This is no eyeshadow placement tutorial.
    That's chiaroscuro theory.
    You can tell she comes from an artistic background.
    That's so well presented,explained and thought through.

    Hi. Idk if you'll actually see this or not but I wanted to ask a question about the placement of shadows. So I have a lazy eye(wandering eye) and I was wondering if you had any makeup techniques that would help create an illusion of that eye pointing straighter? I was not born with this condition, it resulted because of my thyroid disease. Thanks for your time and last but not least, I really enjoy your videos! You explain things in a way that makes sense. Thanks so much.

    Ok so I completely see your point and the effects BUT I honestly don’t think the “backwards” shading looks bad on you at all! Maybe it’s seeing on camera vs in person so that the “hanging fold,” as you call it, isn’t as intense on camera but your eyes are so freaking gorgeous that when the darkness draws my eye into your actual eye more I can appreciate it. The “typical” way looks good too just saying…

    I have eyes like that 1st guy you showed and I find it really difficult to work with how curvy my brow bone is and the depth of the socket etc. I think my eyes are beautiful but eye makeup goes from 0-60 way too fast and most looks are wayyyyyyy too overpowering. Please help. Now that I'm older I'm taking a less is more approach but sometimes I want to be glam, by golly!

    First of all I love your voice. Second of all you are absolutely gorgeous. Third of all, my eyes are hooded so I use darker colors in the crease and light colors on my lid; I actually can't do the classical shade placement with the V without creating an illusion with the darker colors. Isn't makeup fun??

    Hey Alex. Yet another video perfectly full of facts yet the most perfect of length without being boring.
    Any chance of a video helping with blending upto the hair line or when where to stop with a base down the neck etc. Where should the make up end, just on the neck, or to the collar bone or.......?

    I always look like a little kid did my make-up. I have old wrinkly hooded eyes that droop down at the outer corners but I have pretty big eyes. I’ve tried not using eye liner but I feel like my eyes disappear when I do that. Just found your channel so don’t know if you do lipstick stuff but omg my lips are super skinny and I have never found a lipstick that doesn’t make me look 90 years old. I don’t know how to find my perfect color that doesn’t make people laugh or be like dang, tone it down with the lips.

    I've always been a basic bitch and use application #3. If I use a dark colour, it's only one and all over the lid then buffed/blurred out.

    Interesting makeup lesson! I had corrective surgery on one eyelid and have been using a lt brown on the lid and lightly smoking out the corners so the pillowy area above the eye corners look sunken in and don't call attn to that drooping skin. Is that not ideal? I was told not to use lt colors on my eyelids cause it made them stand out and look pillowy. Recommendations, pls? Thanks in advance!

    I wish she would’ve explained that on the dark lid, lighter brow, on the left eye, they work better for hooded eyes…except, the darker lid needs to be expanded to encompass a little bit more skin on the lid where the transition shade would be to make the darker lid work and the lighter shadow would be only used under the brow as a highlight only.
