After your last video I bought the Dermablend foundation you recommended as a concealer. It has been one of the best makeup purchases ever. I am 51 and have dry skin, and that just floated over my undereye. The effect was beautiful!! Thank you!!!!
I’ve made EVERY mistake. I’m 50, and I think I actually gave up using concealer for the last 5 years because it wasn’t going me any favors. After watching your videos, and purchasing the Natasha Denona concealer. I’m back in the game!
Dear Marlena, that was the best concealer video I have ever seen! At this point it's kind of hard to teach me new things about makeup that I think it's worth listening to, but you easily pulled it off
Im 57 yo with tan skin, dry undereyes and dark circles. I do not follow the trends of thick full coverage concealer. Heres what works for me: 1. Over moisturizer my under eyes and let it absorb 2. Milani supercharge corrector in dark peach. It has a THIN , moisturizer consistency. I apply a thin line in my trough with a fine brush, let it set a few sec then gently blend out with a small brush. 3. Apply a concealer w/ THIN serum formula with good pigment in SAME shade as your skin. I use ilia. I dont use a brush. I apply a swipe on the back of my hand, rub "prime" with my ring finger and gently dab on my under eye. This will not disturb my corrector and makes corrector look skin like. I do not set with powder or spray at all. I swear by this process!
I’m 55 and there’s nothing I’ve found I like more than IT Bye Bye under eye. It’s so pigmented and blends beautiful and doesn’t get dried out. And YES I’ve always bought my concealer darker. I’ve always felt weird cause this is the first time I’ve hear someone suggest that! Question though: you say less product the better, but we have a layer of primer, corrector, concealer, and brightened, and powder?
@ Yeah! No one talks about it anymore which always make me feel like I’m not playing with the cool kids anymore, but even when I try others top fav for my age group I just don’t like it the same at all. The IT is so balmy!
Definitely lots of layers, but each layer is to be thin. You can skip the brightener if you don't need it or can skip the corrector if your circles aren't blue/gray. I only add all these steps because my dark circles are SO discolored and dark :( But definitely skip any steps if you get enough coverage without it all xoxo
I have tried a gazillion concealers over many year's. The ONLY concealer that covers my dark circles and one spot of hyper pigmentation is the IT concealer. You only need a tiny bit.
awesome tips as always! nobody has ever before explained how using the right tools for the right viscosity: thick: beauty blender, think : brush! before. Marlena demo'd it perfectly and I love how her videos are super packed with info but are not super long!! thankyou! you are awesome!
Thank you Marlena, I needed this video. I will be 60 in December and have struggled with this issue for a few years. I tried this technique this morning and WOW what a difference it made so thank you. Have a wonderful and blessed day!❤
You are a very strong woman Marlena, you have been through a lot more than most and yet you still put a smile on your face, you are very brave and should be proud of yourself
I am 62, and powder is just not my friend anymore. After I finish with my complexion products, I use a setting spray, giving it time to really dry down. Then I put the smallest amount of powder on, if I need it. I love the NYX Bare With Me concealer, and I literally only need one small dot under each eye because it's so pigmented! I remember my first experience watching TH-cam makeup videos was around 2016, and I tried the big triangle, then baking (plus dewy foundations were all the rage.) I would literally have to wash my face and start again! I learned quickly that those techniques didn't work for my skin!!
Thank you for the tips. I never understood why my undereyes looked so gray after color correcting and using a light concealer. You hear everyone to tell you to “brighten”. I tried your tip today and used a darker concealer. It worked! Thank you so much!!!
Im glad I waited for the black Friday sales to buy Natasha Denonas concealer. I was going to buy the wrong shade. Your tutorials help me so much. I was hating all the concealers I have bought for years and now I know why.
Love this! I’ve also done all and have learned a couple of new techniques in this one! Can’t wait to try them. I have tried every color corrector out there (I think) and, believe it or not, the Maybelline concealer works the best on my skin to hide my dark circles. I was shocked! But, whatever works,I’m good. It Bye Bye is another good one. And I’m was glad to see your recommendation for applying the powder to set. I’ve been doing that and it stays all day without creasing. The other thing that works: I apply under eye moisturizer at night but I use almond oil before applying makeup and I give it time to sink in. My 71 yo eyes look great using these techniques. Marlena is right. Keep trying until you find what works for you! We awesome ladies are not a “one size fits all.”
I’ve tried color correction, but after my regular concealer, it just made it orange. 😮 I have very thin skin under my eyes, and I can see the vein. I started putting the Aquaphor lip balm (a la Scott Barnes) then the ND concealer, and setting powder. Game changer!
My BLUE circles Thanks you! I been practincing most of the steps you mention and I learned today the use of sponge vs brush, lighter conceler use and the Triangle shape! I am including ALL this new tips as of today!!
Still doing my makeup like i wore it in the 90s. Learned a lot as i am creeping toward 60. 🤯Mind blown by how beautiful the triangle concealer method was on you, really popped you cheekbones and brightened center of your face...loved it! techniques of patting with triangle puff, excellent, thanks for teaching me new tricks
Hello Marléna, I have certainly made all of these mistakes and I still do. For me it's the most difficult part of makeup, the concealer and especially for the color grrrrrrr. Great video Marlena😗😗😗
Thank you so much for this video. I am new to your channel and subscribed immediately. I am 68 with bags ( another inherited gift, haha) with redness above the bags close to my lower lids then dark circles and shadows below. It’s a mess and I have never been able to work with concealers. Now, after your video, I have a better understanding of the products needed and the APPLICATION, which I had ALL wrong. Going to buy the products I’m missing and will give it a go. Thanks again and Happy Holidays!
I normally don’t wear concealer at all, at least on a daily basis. For one, I don’t really have dark circles, two I wear glasses and three I didn’t have a clue on how to apply it properly. This video has been extremely helpful. I still won’t wear concealer on a daily basis but for special occasions you can bet that I will be using your tips! Thanks Marlena!
Same tips for the nose and pore coverage? It's the slipping for me and the silicone primer. Would you recommend silicone primer? Maybe a gripping primer for over 40?
If it's slipping, I would skip the primer and put down powder first because chances are your nose gets oily and it's causing the foundation to break apart.
TYSM Marlena ❤️💋PLEASE 🙄🙏🙏🙏 cover concealing eye bags 😵💫😵💫 I inherited my Mom’s eye bags & lighter concealer amplify’s the godforsaken things 😮🙄😮🥺 Plus, I’ve GOT to be amplifying them too because I’m applying it wrong 😑 Help! God Bless you & your Family ❤
I learned through terrible mistakes that you do not put concealer directly on the eye bag, but use the one shade darker concealer onlynonnthe darkness beneath the bag. Trial and error taught me and a makeup artist showed me that the eye bag will only stick out unless you address the darkness under the bag itself and it works...never sweep concealer over the whole undereye as it does nothing to shrink that area...
Right. Light colors bring the feature closer, darker colors make it recede. My bags are already so front and center in your face that I had the same problem with the lighter shade just emphasizing the eye bag. Learning to just apply the concealer in my dark trough made the difference.
I have made every one of these mistakes as well. This is why I love what you do... You help teach us the whys and why nots and I know better now. I luv watching ur techniques, ur suggestions on brushes, concealer, etc. Ur very knowledgeable, and I luv 2 learn about skincare, makeup application, etc. Thank u so much Marlena, 4 taking so much time 2 teach us ladies out here, who luv 2 learn.
Great tips! I’ve def made the majority, if not all these mis-steps, but it was necessary to land where I am here. It’s pretty common to find me using foundations as concealers or Vice versa bc the market has a lot of improvements to make on olive shades, esp in the fair-light category. After all, it’s trial + error, w our changing faces, yes?
Thank you! Just purchased the Anisa trio of brushes you recommend You are an incredible force of good light and love in this world I really appreciate your hard work in the process of presentation You have helped me so much ❤
Yes to all of this! I was trying the “new” only inner and outer corners and it does NOT work for me. QUESTION: Have you tried the Natasha Denona color corrector? Would you do a vid on your fave color correctors unless you already have and I have seen it 🫣
Love the tips! I’m still learning my makeup but the concealer is the absolute most frustrating part. My left eye tears every time which ruins and just makes me want to give up (tried eyedrops and allergy meds - doesn’t help). But something you mentioned here is a thinner consistency with high pigmentation… hyaluronic acid burns my face so bad and most foundations and concealers contain it so I already struggle finding any that work. Do you know of any that are good consistency, high pigmentation, and HA free that I could try? Thanks for sharing!! ❤
Hi Marlena, what shades do you use in the ND concealers? I just bought two to try for the first time and I love the look of it one is a little too dark, but I’m wondering if you and I might be similar shades.
Thank you for sharing your expertise and knowledge with us!! Great tips & yes I have been doing some of my steps wrong. Powder seems to show all of my wrinkles. I use a very small amount on a huge fluffy brush. I’ve found concealer & then setting spray and under my eyes works best but will definitely try some of these great ideas!!!❤
This was so helpful! I love your informative videos. I always learn new techniques from you. Thanks for the great content and for being so authentic. ❤
Great video. I'm 46 and my under eyes are always due to problems sleeping and stress. I do like color correcting. I use the catrice pot corrector. It's peach color.
My dark undereye circles and eye bags are the bane of my existence! I've tried all these techniques many times and still can't ever seem to get the results I want.😢 I also wear glasses which causes a whole new level of problems regarding concealer. Thanks Marlena for the great tutorial, I will keep practicing to try to get it right.
Ohh I’m gonna try the triangle concealer thing! Looks so great! I always use a darker shade but I don’t think I’m applying it with the right tools in the right places
Noooooo 😢 I begged her to do a tutorial for us on concealing eye bags in this comment section🙄🙏👀😑👀 I think it’s about color concealing & placement (Lord knows lighter concealer amplifies them more 😮🫢😵💫😮🥺❤️🩹Marlena can give us the tea 🫖 on feeling confident once we 1) Drink more water 💧 (If needed) 2) apply concealer correctly Praying 🙏 she reads this💯💯💯❤️🩹
I have always had huge bags under my eyes and the only thing that will ever work is a serum to flatten those bags out so you can work with any darkness there. The problem is once your serum dries you cannot put anything on over it or it disappears and you have the bags back. So when I apply the serum that's it....nothing goes on top but your bags are gone. The one I use is by Cover Girl called eye serum and it is great...but only when there is no moisturiser or product of any kind on them...😊. There are really expensive products on the market but I choose this one.
Great tips, thank you Marlena! My undereyes are the pain of my make-up life!! I find, though, that if I use a brush to blend-in concealer that it makes my creases look worse, same with a sponge, so I tend to pat it into place with my ring-finger .. however I have yet to find 'perfection' ... I wonder if I am doing it incorrectly? When using a brush I use the rare beauty concealer brush, so it is the correct size .. it could be just me though!!! SIGH!!!! I am also terrified of undereye powder!!! 🤣
I just tried Huda Beauty Cherry Blossom Corrector & Honey Concealer undereye combo today at Sephora, and I gotta say, chefs kiss - it was perf. Lasted many hours, and I didnt even set it.
I should add, I'm late 30s with a fair/light neutral complexion, dry skin, moderate dark circles and some lines under my eyes. I don't use botox, so I have some textural issues. I put a dab of either product down with a brush, then blended with a sponge. This combo looked bomb. Brightening, great coverage and the least creasing I've ever seen.
Marlena, when applying the color corrector, is that done after moisturizer and silicone primer? Then after corrector, the concealer? Or corrector then moisturizer and primer and concealer? Im sorry but I was unclear, I hope you answer. I have dark circles and now small bags! Oh the joy of aging.
Marlena, I will try these tips, but I’m 65 and all my life I’ve always felt concealer only emphasized my circles. I have the Mediterranean dark circles which I believe are the most difficult.
Bonjour, Thank you for this very informative video. I have a question: Are my fingers as efficient as a brush or sponge? I'm 60 and, 40 years ago, except for blush, no tools existed except one's fingers. I trust you completely: Do a brush or sponge really make a difference compared to fingers?Merci d'avance pour ta réponse.
I always wonder if I use enough setting powder. I always go for a translucent one. I have noticed that I have never gone through an entire powder. I usually buy a new one because my other one will be a year old. It makes me wonder if I am using enough. I wonder if other people have this problem. I love watching these videos because I definitely make mistakes with my concealer!
I’m 72 and I’m hopeful your wonderful tips will help. Thank you so much for all these lessons because yes, I’ve messed up my concealer in most of these ways!🥹
Hi! Just to confirm using a lighter concealer works if applying a color corrector first? I have inherent very dark circles but all around the eye orbit. My issue is that over time the concealer moves or starts to look ashy. I just ordered the Lancome primer you recommended.
“I don’t care about trends, I care about what works” PERIOD! Love that
I'm 60 years old and follow all these tips. I do NOT have creasing at all. Setting spray was a game changer. Thank you Marlena hugs❤
After your last video I bought the Dermablend foundation you recommended as a concealer. It has been one of the best makeup purchases ever. I am 51 and have dry skin, and that just floated over my undereye. The effect was beautiful!! Thank you!!!!

Hell o Marlena love your channel can you do a tutorial on hooded eyes❤😊🤗

I could never get on the train for using a lighter concealer. Using the same or one shade darker has always made my under eye look flawless! 😊
Im glad I waited for the black Friday sales to buy Natasha Denonas concealer. I was going to buy the wrong shade. Your tutorials help me so much. I was hating all the concealers I have bought for years and now I know why.
I’m guilty of not color correcting. I didn’t know what color my undertones were. The peach corrector is a game changer.🎉

I guess you’d use only under the bags?
I have always had huge bags under my eyes and the only thing that will ever work is a serum to flatten those bags out so you can work with any darkness there. The problem is once your serum dries you cannot put anything on over it or it disappears and you have the bags back. So when I apply the serum that's it....nothing goes on top but your bags are gone. The one I use is by Cover Girl called eye serum and it is great...but only when there is no moisturiser or product of any kind on them...😊. There are really expensive products on the market but I choose this one.
Great tips Marlena 😊

I find, though, that if I use a brush to blend-in concealer that it makes my creases look worse, same with a sponge, so I tend to pat it into place with my ring-finger .. however I have yet to find 'perfection' ... I wonder if I am doing it incorrectly? When using a brush I use the rare beauty concealer brush, so it is the correct size .. it could be just me though!!! SIGH!!!! I am also terrified of undereye powder!!! 🤣
You did a video on concealer. Can you do one on color corrector? What is the best color corrector?
Loving these educational videos! If fine lines are the issue, would you still recommend concealer all over?
Listen to this woman! I do most of these! I trust everything u say!
You need to use a model that actually HAS dark circles
Seriously……she talks about how dark her circles are and I’m like, WHERE?
Thank you for these awesome tips!
Omg finally I got it! I was doing it all wrong… thank you for this video 😊
Your videos are always so informative and helpful.
I use ur Make Up Geek concealer brush 🥺❤Sometimes I do use a sponge.
Just love your tips… you make me look way more pretty.❤
Marlena, I will try these tips, but I’m 65 and all my life I’ve always felt concealer only emphasized my circles. I have the Mediterranean dark circles which I believe are the most difficult.
Loved this❤thanks ❤
Bonjour, Thank you for this very informative video. I have a question: Are my fingers as efficient as a brush or sponge? I'm 60 and, 40 years ago, except for blush, no tools existed except one's fingers. I trust you completely: Do a brush or sponge really make a difference compared to fingers?Merci d'avance pour ta réponse.
2:42 I am 62. No dark circles, yet I have hollows from loss of collegene. What should I do for this? Thank you so much❤
I have the same issue. Wish someone would address this.
Thank you for such an informative video. I LOVE that Anisa concealer brush!
Oh my, thank you for this video. Awesome tips🙌🏼
Great video! Loved the demos.😊 Donna
Lol all of them! And I just bought new powder thinking that was my problem. Now I know!
I’m 72 and I’m hopeful your wonderful tips will help. Thank you so much for all these lessons because yes, I’ve messed up my concealer in most of these ways!🥹
Thanks for the great tips. Do you apply your concealer before or after foundation?
She mentioned she does her concealer triangle shape after foundation, so I’m assuming she does it after! 10:12
@@elzabethstewartthank you!
Thank you for all the advice! You're a darling 🩷
Hi! Just to confirm using a lighter concealer works if applying a color corrector first? I have inherent very dark circles but all around the eye orbit. My issue is that over time the concealer moves or starts to look ashy.
I just ordered the Lancome primer you recommended.
Thank you, Marlena!
So helpful! I always learn something new from you ❤
Excellent instructions! Thanks.
