Only for eyes... You just need 2 brushes, 1eye shadow brush and 1pencil brush.. that's it...

This was so helpful! I'm almost 40 and FINALLY starting to experiment with makeup now that my skin has become clearer. I definitely struggle with selecting the right brushes and how much pressure to apply. I have slightly hooded eyes, so it's tricky!

Ivy Hazel try using smaller brushes , tapping off excess , and using lighter colors and building up to dark . also try putting colors lower down on the crease instead of working above it .
Youre probably using stiff or the wrong brushes. Find very smooth brushes. Start with light and medium brown colours until u get used to dealing with eyeshadows

Girl, I'm 50 and I do so many of the dont's...lol I learned how to do my make up in the 80s then stopped wearing it for a long time after the cancer. I'm just now getting back into it, subbed to boxycharm and I am loving your videos! The new techniques are incredible and so gorgeous. No kidding. It should be an all make up application requirement. I do recommend the pause button rather than notes as you at least have a fighting chance...or I do as my handwriting is about as good as my makeup application. Good luck!

Using the wrong brushes! It took forever for me to figure out that the right brush is half the battle.
It’s insane that both eyes have the exact same lid shade, they look completely different in color family, tone, opacity, and shine. They don’t look like they could even be the same brand or caliber of quality at all. This just goes to show that putting in the effort to properly prep the eye, and taking the time to learn and understand the different uses for your tools is %100 worth it .

Well if you use a light colour and a medium color then it''s really simple… you can't mess up to much. I'm speaking for myself I am an heavy handed girl and I have one of those rainbow palettes...hahaha
I am also not good with makeup. and I just put a base color (kinda my skin tone, maybe pinkish) and and a whiteish color in the inner corner. Looks pretty and natural

The brand Essence (if its available where you live) has very cheap make up brushes. I personally really like their blending brushes!

Sign up for boxycharm. That's what I did. I threw out my cheap dollar store make up and it's $21 a month. I was in it for 3 months and got a ton of nice brushes and 3 eye shadow palettes, a contour kit, mascara. I do like elf make up brushes I get from dollar tree but the ones from boxy are high quality (like a $28 brush set) and it doesn't break the bank. I'll probably sign back up after the holidays. Also if you have a Ross Dress For Less, they often have great closeout make up that's normally more expensive. That's where I get my make up wipes for $3-4 a pack instead of the same price for crappy ones somewhere else.

When I do a gradient like you’re doing, I will bring the same colors in the same order down to my lowers eyelash line. I think it looks great because I hate doing anything else to that area but feel like I’m not done if I don’t do ANYTHING. Great tips as always! Thank you!

Didn’t realize this was 4 years old when I pulled it up, but I guess it doesn’t matter because it’s an awesome tutorial! I was having trouble getting my gorgeous new colour pop palette shades to blend well, and this morning I tried your tip to use 3 transition shades and what a difference! Thank you!

if the shadow or the brush isn't good, it can wind up looking muddy or patchy

Same. Or many times I’ll get everything placed where I want it, then go to blend it out and when I’m about 30 seconds in realize that it looks like there’s nothing on my eye. It’s like it just blends into nothingness.

This was very helpful to me! I am in my 40’s and while I haven’t been doing all the “don’ts”, I have never broken the code on blending and getting the shadows right. I tried most of your suggestions today and wow! What a difference for me! For example, I have always used shadows primer and been disappointed with the results, but tried your suggestions today and its date night with the hubbie and my makeup is still going strong from this morning! Even the don’t side works for me. Sometimes I don’t have time to put on layers and layers of eyeshadow so I just go for one dark shade and blend it and it works perfect. It depends on how you do it , if you tried to make the don’t side work it would have but you didn’t.

Practice. You'll get it. I ordered more affordable makeup, checked for ones with lots of great reviews.
Buying quality makeup products are completely worth it to me. Even if I'm broke af I will save for quality products because there is such a difference. But I'm really into makeup and love to do full face makeup as much as I can. There are certain products you can find at a drugstore that give you the same or similar result but I for things like foundation, concealer, mascara, eyeliner and shadows I will pay for the brands with the best reviews that I know work for me. For example I never use drugstore foundation . I will gladly shell out 45 bucks for Estee Lauder Double Wear because it is the best foundation I've ever used and I can clearly see the difference. There is an amazing makeup setting spray I love by NYX and it's from a drugstore. I generally watch and read makeup reviews to see which drugstore brands can compare to the big names and try those.

If you're doing a winged liner, hold a piece of paper (or anything with a straight edge) below where you want your winged liner to begin at a slant, and apply right above that. That has personally helped me. Also, apply as close to your upper lash-line as possible. For lower lash line eyeliner, make sure you apply on the water-line, not below.

I have redefined my makeup due to tutorials. I've learned about all kinds of stuff that had blessed me with no cake face on a simple level. Now thanks to u I can do my shadow right. I feel so nube.

If you're like me and you have oily eyes, I use either Urban Decay eyeshadow primer potion or Wet N Wild eyeshadow primer. They're honestly the same in quality but the Wet N Wild is much cheaper. The only downside is that its becoming harder to find as more people discover it.
