    4 Point Saddle - Edge of Obstruction Method
    In this video I'll teach you step by step how to accurately bend a 4 point saddle. The method used is called in the trade the edge of obstruction method. Reason being is because you measure from the end of the conduit to the edge of the obstruction you are trying to bend over. I must say that before you watch this video you should at least know how to bend an offset and know the multipliers of offsets and also know how to calculate shrink. If you don't already know how to then I advise you to watch my video on how to bend an offset or any video for that matter on the subject. I will put the multipliers in this description and shrink as well in case you need a reminder. Please like, share and subscribe. Thank you.
    Offset Multipliers & Shrink
    10 Degree= 5.67 Shrink= 1/16
    22.5 Degree= 2.6 Shrink= 3/16 Inch
    30 Degree= 2 Shrink= 1/4 Inch
    45 Degree=1.414 Shrink= 3/8 inch
    60 Degree= 1.15 Shrink= 1/2 inch

    I have to say your videos on bending pipe are the absolute best!!! Clearly explained, and the tutorial is great! Thank you so much for making these amazing videos!!! They really help us new commercial electricians!

      Seriously? I always feel like i didn't explain it enough. I always try to explain it and break it down as if I'm speaking to a day one apprentice.
      Anyhow, thank you very much. It's very well appreciated.

      Nah bro your vids are great. As an electrician I already know how to do most of the things that I see in your videos, such as a 4 point saddle, but you always explain little extra details that make it easier, such as your advice on bend order and bending direction. Thanks for doing what you do.

Im aware of that error i do clarify it but even still i will update this when ever possible. Thank you very much. I would appreciate it very much if you would sub and hit that 👍. Also if you could share the channel with your friends. I just added a new playlist of multiple bends on a single conduit with PUSH-THRU bending. You might enjoy it. Check it out. Link below-

    Great info thanks. I do have a 2 part question tho. If you have a box offset from where you initially measured or on both ends, do you bend that first or after? And if you do bend the box offset/offsets first, does this change the direction the bender faces on the other bends or do you still do it as you you explained in the video. Thanks

    • @TheArtOfConduitBending
      @TheArtOfConduitBending  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly, you can do it how ever you like. But ive noticed that if you do the box set last after your offset you can end up taking out some of the bends on your offset if you are not careful. I try to do my box sets first. But in order to do that sometimes not all the times you need to know exactly how much conduit you're going to need so that you can cut it then bend your boxsets. I have a video explaining shrink and gain to figure total length if you're interested. Now, for you're 2nd ❓ Box sets won't change how you have to bend your offsets at all. You just have to pay attention to the orientation of the boxset and offset to make sure they are both in the direction you need them to be. Hope this helps.

    Do you still have to add the shrink to end of obstruction if your bending on center of bends. Not at the arrow benchmark?

    • @TheArtOfConduitBending
      @TheArtOfConduitBending  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the conduit is still going to shrink no matter what. Bending on center is just so you can bend more precisely in the field when you need to. Conduit will still shrink though. Hope this helps.

    Hello.
    Quick question. When you are making a 4 point saddle, why is it that you apply shrink on point A only. If you are making 4 bends, dont you think you should apply shrink to all 4 bends?

    • @TheArtOfConduitBending
      @TheArtOfConduitBending  ปีที่แล้ว

      Look at this way. Only one offset is headed towards the obstruction so you're trying add the shrink for the first offset. The second offset is passing the obstruction so it don't matter. But that's a great question

  • @jimpeyjimpey5565
    @jimpeyjimpey5565 ปีที่แล้ว

    You used a multiplier for a 45 deg which is 1.4 and the rise dimension of the obstruction which is 5. When multiplied that equals 7 for the spacing between bends. Where is the 7 1/8" coming from? The shrink calculation of obstruction 5" by the 45 degree 3/8" rule is 1 7/8... just dont know what I missed with the spacing calculation... can you expand on this. I know this is an older video. Just watching for the first time

    • @TheArtOfConduitBending
      @TheArtOfConduitBending  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's no big deal. I use multiplier of 1.414 but it's the same . As you can see it's only an 1/8" difference which is not going to make any difference at all.

  • @pfunk500
    @pfunk500 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How did you come up with 7and a 8th for mark/bend B??

    • @TheArtOfConduitBending
      @TheArtOfConduitBending  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 7-1/8" is my spacing between bends for my 2 offsets. I got that by multiplying the height of my obstruction also the height of my offset. Multiplying it by my 45 ° multiplier which is 1.414 so in other words
      5x1.414= 7.07 = 7-1/8 or 7. That's mark B & D. Hope that helps

      @@pfunk500 hey listen I still struggle with lining up even my offsets if I don't do either of these 2 tricks I'm about to teach you. One of them I have a video of which is placing a mark on the center of the pipe so you know where your center is when flipping your conduit. Watch the video it's called something like stop dogging your conduit by holmzlaw. Second trick is very similar but I think helps a lot more and I haven't yet made a video of it. Grab a 4x4 square 1900 box place a emt connector in any of the center KOs. Now install the box onto the conduit that your bending. What this does is act like a level that you get to see better when you place the conduit with the box attached to it, it helps you see whether or not your conduit is straight or not in reference to your bends. Hope this helps and that you understand what I explained just now. I'll try to come up with a video of the process soon.
