Dude this is the Scotty Kilmer for electricians
LOL! Good one, thanks! 2 more EMT bending videos coming this weekend. :) Check them out if you get a chance.
I was thinking the same thing lol. Sounds just like him
That is spot on..😆
Thought that the other day from one of his videos
But the difference is this guy is cool. Scotty kilmer just preaches Toyota and says everything else is junk
4 bend saddle ... All bends on arrow and hook towards the middle. ✅
I just started my 1st year apprenticeship and I have to say that I'm learning alot from your videos. Thank you so much.
Best wishes for your apprenticeship!
Hey Sparky, love the vids.. I'm starting school next week.👍.. yesterday I did a 4 point saddle bend came out great.. my journeyman just gave it a little tweak.🤙. Gonna go back through your vids and try to get ahead of the guys in class. Thanks for your wisdom.
Great video! How things have changed over the years! Remember learning to bend conduit, was told to write this down, then told get to work. Years ago it was a complete sink or swim attitude in the industry, even the apprenticeship was designed around weeding out the weak, started off with 140 student and ended up with less than 20.
I love the finished work of well bent EMT. Very professional results!
Hey Bill, glad to have you back! Just wanted to say your old videos of pipe runs helped me figure out the math involved back when I was non-union. Now I'm in the union (IBEW local 58 Detroit), and getting a great education, but I still love the way you do your walk-through demonstrations!
Thanks Tom! Cheers from San Diego!
Very informative!
I like to use center of bend for everything. Especially for saddles, that way I can just use the push through method.
This is golden! Very easily explained I understood 100% and learned something new about the Klein tape measure
Excellent!
Thank you so much for the lesson!!...I bought the Klein tape measure and the digital level, and I must say they are great tools!!...Thanks again
Glad it was helpful!
Just a phenomenal channel!! Thank you for everything Sparky Channel!! You make me realize that everything is pretty simple and that I just need to quit overthinking it. 👍
Edit: four bend saddles used to give me headaches when I was an apprentice
Way to go!
I've struggled with 3 and 4 points, but I attempt them when I get the chance. Your videos have been very helpful. Thank you for your tips
My pleasure, thanks!
Thanks, Sparky. I'm in my second month of electrician training at UEI and these videos are GOLD. I'm trying to get through the entire series because they get to the point and come from field experience, not sterile lab environments. I Appreciate your efforts Sir.
Glad to help! Yes, I like to have the conduits start at a box or fitting and end at a box or fitting, similar to a job environment. Good luck Mike!
Man I have been a sparky for 11years and I still find very valuable knowledge on your channel ,even if In this case it's about a new tool!!! Lol 🤙 god bless you sir!
God Bless you as well!
I found your video by accident, but I have subscribed and found your explanations very easy to understand. I used your 3 point technique today and it was perfect !!
Excellent!
This is the best EMT conduit bending video, thank you so much Sr.
Thanks Efrain!
Thanks for dropping some knowledge... Really helps me prep for lab days 👌🏽
Excellent!
This dude is legit. Should be required watching for electricians.
Thanks so much!
Hello, sir. I've been working as an electrician for 7 years now and wanted a quick brush up on bending. This was the best explanation I've seen for bending (also enjoyed your 3 point saddle video). I'll be forwarding these videos to my apprentices! Thanks for taking the time to make these videos!
Thanks Lucas!
Love this Chanel perfect bends and explanations
Thanks so much!
Yup, Just took the glasses off .
Sounds the exact same too!
Lmfao no way. That's the same thing I thought about. Both are OGs in their profession.
Thanks for helping me understand 3 and 4 point saddles Sparky!
Happy to help! Thanks!
Question, for the 3rd mark added on the conduit being 7 1/4” away from the first mark made; is that measurement the actual width of the obstruction?
And if it is, is the 3/4” shrinkage factor applied to the width of the obstruction as well? Or is it not added?
The first mark is distance to obstruction plus 3/4” so it’d make sense to add 3/4” to the width of the obstruction right or no?
I like Sparky. He is a good instructor. Thank you.
Very aspiring... ."Hakuna Matata" all of your episodes are educative Thanks for sharing.
Yes, Hakuna Matata!
Thank you so much Mr. Sparky. Best explanations on TH-cam. 🙏🏻
You're very welcome!
Bill , you are a Witch , when comes to bending . I dig the new Tape measure !
Thanks Chris!
I wish Bill was my journeyman. He could answer any dumb question I have even if it didn’t make any sense. 😂
LOL! Good one! If it wasn't for dumb questions, no one would learn anything.
You’re the man Sparky 👍🏼
Thanks so much Rich!
Finally someone made me understand shrinkage
Excellent!
Haha my wife did that for me 😢
Thank you sensei. I’ve been learning a lot from your videos.
My pleasure, thanks Georgio!
Was always a fan of Ron kipper from ideal but I think sparky channel has helped me so much more!
I have watched all of Ron's videos. I love watching them!
@@SparkyChannel glad to hear I think everyone has their own tips and tricks just like my journeymen tell me, I’m a second year apprentice in trade school in the IBEW, I appreciate your response sir!
@@ItsBetrix Best wishes!
I don't like bending on ground but I like your idea as water level degree Marks are more accurate. Hard to get right degree when bending in air. I know few electricians who use rim notch as their marking on conduit which is easy and less complicated. Thanks for all the videos
Thanks, have a great day!
Best video ever. He is a master at his craft thanks
Thanks so much!
great demonstration. thank you for the lesson
You are welcome!
Boring for the pros, fascinating for us amateurs. --- Thanks for the great upload. ---
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you friend, this video ended with my doubts about why my folds did not come out identical, greetings from Costa Rica.
Glad I could help!
Boom ! Great vid Sparky !! Thanks
No problem, thanks!
I like the way how you explain things up. But the question is ? Do you just add the shrink once or you add it on to both side ?
Hi Mr Bill, thanks for your lessons
No problem, thanks!
Another great video! Question for you: the other day (not the first time this has happened) I had to bend a saddle close to the end of a stick of pipe. What is the proper way to measure and mark for the "push through" method? I made it work somehow, but wondering what I should do next time...thank you!
Excelente explicacion !!! Grafica !!!! Saludos desde argentina
Cheers from San Diego!
For the 3rd mark, it’s the distance across the obstruction minus shrinkage?
Great video I need a tape measure like that
Somebody is getting a little love from Klein;)
Sparky We need u to keep making more of these Great videos.
That's the plan! Thanks!
Awesome video Bill.
Thanks David! 👍
Very detailed educational videos , love it , God Bless Sir .
God Bless you as well!
Great Job Sparky... The Digital Angle Gauge It Would Be Better If They Make It With The Sound Once You Get Your Angle
Great idea!
Awesome Explanation! Thumbs Up!
Thanks DJ!
@Sparky Channel: Could you do a show on how properly air bend 3/4" conduit. It's pretty difficult and FAILED HARD on 3/4".
I tried doing this several times with 3/4" conduit, and messed up each time. The last time, the conduit and bender slipped in the air and I got injured badly. Both my left little finger and my left big toe got seriously SMASHED when it cut loose. Enough so they both turned black and I'm losing my fingernail and my toenail now..
Anybody else get Scotty vibes from Bill?!?! Warm up you engines!!!!!
Are they related?
At 1st i wasnt going to finish because of the much speaking but i really like his style!
Nice work!
Thank you! Cheers!
this is getting me through my exam, thank you
Excellent! Where are you going to school?
@@SparkyChannel I am a first year apprentice at IBEW local 80, Norfolk VA
@@alecthenice8115 Fantastic! Please say Hi to everyone for me!
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks Matthew!
Klein should make tape measures with the back side having essential conduit info, concentric bend formula, ohms law etc but skip the inch measurements on the back. Also tape measures need to be slightly compact not a big block. They need magnets on the ends that won't break off.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge Sir
My pleasure, thanks Shane!
@@SparkyChannel you bet. You're Videos are Awesome
Great video I also use ideal they are true
Very good, perfect!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks for sharing this video ❤️
My pleasure 😊
Great video 😎👍
Thanks! 😎👍
where i can buy that meter.i like that
You are a life saver
Thanks!
Cool channel sir u explain it well I’m gonna get that tape
Sounds good Juan!
I watch all of your videos. You have so many ways for 4 bends and 3 bends. Some push through and some traditional. What is your go to methods while in the field?
Usually traditional method.
Thank you.
Welcome!
Good job buddy.
Thanks Joesph!
Thanks..cheers
I have a question. You have your first marked 33’7/8” because of there is a 3/4” shrinking this one I understand. However why don’t we add another 3/4” on the other side? So that should make 1’1/2” shrinkage in total.
The other 3/4 of shrinkage wouldnt appear until after the second set of bends. If he only did the first offset there would only be a 3/4 difference from the original length of the pipe. The distance you have to cross over your obstruction won’t grow or shrink so the center point of the bends should be a constant. I’m not sure if that made complete sense. I’ll think about it and try to figure out a better way to word it
I saw you did shrink for the first offset, do you add shrink for the second offset as well?
Only if you're trying to reach a set point. (Like a box) But, more likely the pipe will end and you'll be using a coupling. So it wont matter.
Thanks for your video verry helpful
You are welcome, thanks Robert!
I bent 14 4 points with help from your video today
Awesome video!! Can you do a video on parallel offsets
Thanks! Yes, I do have a video on parallel offsets. Also see Sparky vs the Pros... It's fun and educational too. Thanks!
I'm confused about the 7-1/4"
Thank you sir God bless
Same to you!
Excellent work thank you.
Do you have a chart like in the 3point saddle bend video please?
Here you go: pdf.lowes.com/howtoguides/783250740468_how.pdf
Sparky Channel * you are a life saviour.
Thank you sir
@@vincentsmith4328 No problem, thanks! 2 more EMT bending videos coming this weekend. :)
who would ever dislike this?
Thanks Thomas!
Do these principles apply for bending rigid metal conduit?
Yes.
How did you come up with 7 1/4 third mark ? should it be as long as you desire the length of the saddle meaning what if was 3 pipes other then 2??
7 1/4" was the length of the obstruction. Yes, if the obstruction was longer than you would need more space between the middle marks.
Thank you for your quick response I'd say that clears things up but it was a rhetorical question. I do like your demo don't get me wrong or seem to be like I'm some kind of a master pipe bender lol I seen other ways how to get the measurements like taking the distance of the obstruction and starting from the middle. Keep them videos coming buddy!!
Esa tabla aplica para tubería de toda pulgada?
Si solo te da la medidas de reducción y eso.
Does the multiplier or shrink change with different size of conduit? So if the multiplier for a 1/2 inch conduit is 6 will the multiplier for 3/4 inch also 6?
yes it will
Absolutely will.
Is 2 -30° bends to its shrinkage isc1/4" so u just add a 1/2" for shrinkage..im confused..
See my video: EMT Shrinkage To Make 3 Point Saddle Bends: Save $$ by Knowing EMT Shrink Calculations: th-cam.com/video/Xfsk74ffdpQ/w-d-xo.html
You rule Sparky
So you added the 1/4" shrinkage and 2.0 multiplier but did 30° bends . Am i wrong?
You are right. That is all correct info.
Hey i like the video!!! but isnt that arrow on the bender that you were using for offsets only meant for 90° bends? I thought you were supposed to use the notch for offsets
The notch is for your middle bend if a 3 point saddle bend and that’s all it’s used for outer bends on a 3 point saddle use the arrow as well
Hi Steve. David Zee gave a perfect answer for you.
Do you add shrinkage on both sides or one side?
One side.
How did you get 7 1/4 from the the middle ? Thought it was 6 inches from center? Just curious
You have to add 1/4 inch for shrink for every inch of rise on that side.
It's the total measurement of the two pipes, edge to edge
does it matter which bend you do first on the two inside bends?
No it doesn’t
Nope
how come you only have to account for shrinkage on the first A/B bend and not again on the C/D bend?
Hi David: I just made a video that should answer your question: EMT Shrinkage To Make 3 Point Saddle Bends: Save $$ by Knowing EMT Shrink Calculations: th-cam.com/video/Xfsk74ffdpQ/w-d-xo.html
Because the conduit is gonna shrink 1 way not both
🔥
Nice!
Thanks!
Watching from india
Cheers from San Diego!
How did you decide to come up 3”?
The pipes were 2 5/8" off the plywood and you need to leave a little clearance so 3" was good.
Little disappointed you didn’t even mention benfield benders, still a good video!
Benfield benders are excellent as well.
10:07 😯 wow so accurate
Thanks!
"Just grab it right there." Hearing that reminded me of John Madden for some reason.
May he R.I.P!!!
Similar to the shrink when you get into a pool.
LOL! Good clean joke. I like that!
Haha. Thanks for the videos, learning a lot watching them.
Inside mark bend, outside mark bend *flip conduit around* inside mark bend, outside mark bend. Finished. And all from the ground (for better results) Try bending 45+degree offsets this way and you’ll find the plain of the pipe is directly in contact with the handle.
Yea especially if the conduit is going to be in an area that's super visible and always seen, 45 degrees are sharper and look nicer
I had an obstruction that was 2" high and 4.5" wide. A four point saddle wouldn't work right, the distance between bends would be too close right?
you could always just use smaller degree bends to put more space between the bends.
Where did you get the 7 and a quarter
That is the measurement of the obstacle (the pipes the saddle was going over)
Good answer Jack! Thanks!
