seto: "hey, you guys have that soft item that cures petrification right - can you do me a solid an- guys? GUYS!"
Its so much worse now because you can get hit by the same arrows.
How the v fuck did they fix every other problem and double down on this?
He needs supersoft from ff9
He’s literally trying to sound like actual non-organic stone and is dead as a door knob
@@TheDapperDragonhe's probably been in the petrified state for so long his body would just collapse if they used a soft on him, Seto is long gone
I asked myself the same thing about spells that have the ability to heal you in the game yet when they get injured they need a doctor.
Never played the original, but seeing Seto cry really broke me
this cat-dog is missing an eye, has osteochondrosis, is severely underfed, is apparently on fire, and after all that he still has a teenager voice?...sorry just looks weird
It just hit me that red talks to Arieth in his normal voice and fakes it to everyone else
That boss was a pain in the ass to beat in the original 😂
Have you tried using a Phoenix Down to kill him?
@@SantaAzulCTZN life spell and peonix down kills him in one hit
One Megapotion or Elixir and you one-shot him.
I cant take this scene seriously without red dad muffled in the background saying im not dead just petrified and screaming sayiny my sons an idiot while he howled lol
I knew that Barret would cry in this scene. Their bromance is beautiful.
fr theres nothing more heartbreakin than a man that hard starts sheddin tears
Just a man and his talking dog best friend!
AVALANCHE TIME!!!
Bestest friends
Barrett: It's enough to make a grown man cry... but not this man... GET BACK IN THERE, TEAR!
Barret probably understood Seto's sacrifice and was thinking he'd do the same for Marlene.
5:39 hol up hol up hol up... is that a tear? does that imply he's somehow turned to stone but actually still CONSCIOUS??? Goodness gracious that gotta be one of the worst fates I've ever seen in anything ever 💀
Yep. He's just petrified by the poison arrows of the Gi Tribe. In the original version that was explained.
Not the first FF that did THAT
Q_Q
a tear fell from his petrified body in the OG one, too
You didn't play the original?
@@realeyesrealizereallies1194 You could have thought it was symbolic in PS1.
They made it VERY CLEAR in this one!

Red XIII saying those words before letting out that emotional howl towards the petrified body of his father is quite a beautiful scene in my point of view.
Man.. WHO's cutting onions......
Just too bad his new voice and personality are so lame.
@@yuyutubee8435 What we learn about his being that he's still basically a child by his species viewpoint so his new voice makes sense when you think about it like that.

He got the Darth Vader syndrome.
This overuse ironically made him a boring villain.
Because those r3tards in the writing department at SquareEnix have no f*cking clue how to write anything good anymore.
Barret: I love my Talking Dog Best Friend.
AVALANCHE TIME!!!
I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE SEEING TFS IN THE FF7R SCRIPT
I cried in 1997. I'm crying now. Thank you Square Enix for doing this powerful scene justice.
My childhood got a glow up right here.
The original did it better. Quit being a wuss.

AVALANCHE TIME!!!!
MOTHER…mother’s good.
This moment was so precious to re-experience, I was playing with my brother and his favorite character from the original growing up was Nanaki... And while playing he said "dude l! The Seto revelation is gonna make me cry I just know it"... And even though he managed to hold on during the scene that beautiful shot at the end and Nanaki howling broke him completely!... 🥲
It was probably the single most anticipated scene for me. So great. The music is awesome too.
Seph really needs to get a room. In the OG at least we feel the anxiety of "while we're here Seph could be up to no good" but in Rebirth nah he's waiting for us
I get the point but it makes "sense" given that it's more of a sequel and it's a "different" Sephiroth :P
Someone looked at the scene from the original FF7 and thought "Hmm, why isn't Sephiroth there though?"
Square Enix exec: I have an idea on how to make Rebirth better. 1) sephiroth needs to be everywhere 2) when not in a cutscene everyone should be asking "where's sephiroth?"
Whenever Sephiroth isnt on screen everyone should be saying "where's Sephiroth?"
@@Bat-EDH-Gaming1991 "Great, great. Just leave it on the floor on your way out."
Always wanted to see a flashback on how Seto got like that
maybe was the thing to do in a remake
How come they didnt give seto a gold needle? 💀 he stone not dead, he even cry while in stone 💀
Having absolutely no context for this scene or game I'm losing my shit at the tonal shift of "But then an evil wizard showed up."
But then an evil wizard showed up, then SEPHIROTH himself! Just to show his face and fade back into clouds consciousness.
Don't worry you're not the only one, since that, like many other things in the remake, did NOT happen in the original FF7 lol
That definitely ruined the moment for me… like damn give us a minute to process this at least. My favorite part in the OG and they added weird Gi/Sephiroth shit. Cmon man.
@@raven-19x The Gi stuff is at least set up. Sephiroth should just be cut.
@@Taylorculosis I actually liked the added Gi stuff but give Nanaki some time for his major character arc moment. It was the same thing for Barret with sudden frog machine battle.
Eventually, Seto stopped thinking.
Is that a JoJo reference?
In the OG PS1 Bugenhagen was so proud of his son for being the greatest warrior their tribe had ever known. His son whose enemies fled from him in fear even as his body turned to stone. This does not hit the same at all.
That and Nanakis "sure have" and "you bet I am" needless corny dialog that makes you unable to take him seriously. Especially with that daft new voice. Would have been better off sticking the original script
@@MikeHeskettFact is, the original script was badly translated. This is actually closer to how in the original Japanese Nanaki speaks.
it is based on the OG Japanese Script
I agree with Mike. Fact is, even if the original was badly translated, it was more profound than this.
@@princessofthecape2078 But this is actually closer.
The song. They hit all the right points......
Absolutely.
Not like the original though.
@@terry85mar Very true
@@terry85marthis is the original but remixed ,as Always ,. Great warrior..
Ah yes, midi is def better @@terry85mar
When I replayed this scene on the OG on Switch last year, it only hit me how Red strongly parallels Cloud.
Both have something about their past they resent that make them resolve to be stronger, and it turns out, they don't know/remember the whole truth.
Plus, both of them try to act like they are more mature than their mental age of 16 would have you believe.
ALL of the cast does in the OG.
Tifa is obvious
Barret had his home destroyed by Shinra
Cid is angry and lashing out, destroying himself in the process
Cait Sith is haunted by how much he's helped Shinra
Vincent is an experiement of Hojos
And Yuffie is someone trying to change the world for the better, but not sure how.
Its why not Red is such a bungle, making him into generic shitty anime child
Dunno if I'm the only one who didn't think this scene lived up to the original?
That’s because a Gi Ghost and ole Sephiroth just had to butt into this key moment.
@@raven-19x nah..that was daft but even before that I felt there was too much bugenhagen injected in the scene... something about it just felt off for me
You're not the only one
They had bugenhagen ranting instead of talking about how he was happy to tell red about his father before he died. The extra layer of sadness about bugenhagen not being around much longer was what made it so powerful for me in the OG. Ngl I kinda don’t like new bugenhagen. Too much of a fucking boomer lol
reds new but 'true' voice kind of loses the hype and emotion of the scene...
lol u either love it or hate it.
but i still shed a tear in this iteration of nanaki finding out his pa wasnt no coward.
this suffers the same issue as the boat in general and a later very important scene… it doesnt have room to breath. like you have the emotional stuff… then Nattak literally interrupts for the new shit and it’s like…. couldnt you wait till after this and maybe appear during our walk back? like have Red do the howl, fade out, then be in the previous room with the gang waiting for him, he comes into the room ready to go then Nattak comes in. this just makes Nanaki’s prime moment feel rushed and far less impactful.
In this instance, with this scene, I do definitely agree. The pacing of this game is its weakest facet, IMO. Which is the same as the original, but here the issues are exacerbated by the fact that the plot is so meandering and wide ranging. But yeah, this is one of the few scenes that I actually think was disappointing and handled better in the original.
Out of interest, though, what's the later very important scene you're thinking of?
@@DodderingOldMan actually i realised another scene as well, which i’ll explain.
FCKING SPOILERS FOR ANYONE WHO CARES:
the scene i later thought of was Dyne’s. i was fine with it and actually really loving it until the shinra troops showed up. then it became all actiony explodey cartoon funnies. i mean for fck sake Dio rocks up to do wrestling with Rude just after we just finished fighting palmer in a fcking mech. again, this could have been fixed if after the whole Dyne stuff, as we left the saucer with the buggy, then the Shinra turn up. i know Gus sold us out (really should murder him btw) but it really did take away from Dyne’s whole 1:1 with Barret.
SUPER MEGA SPOILERS:
Aerith’s death. again, handled very well…. until KH syndrome was injected and multiple realities and MANY boss fights in fast succession happen, INCLUDING BIZZARO SEPHIROTH FOR FCK SAKE. you team up with her to final fight sephy after she died etc. again it felt like the emotional impact was bludgeoned out of the way and for alot of people i feel, fcking confused what the fck just happened rather than feeling the emotional impact of Aerith’s death. not reslly sure how to fix this other than “just dont have the new shit in it” maybe after the jenova fight and lowering her into the lake, they leave the capital to see the world breaking and then all the shenanigans happen. thinking bout it, really does come down to separating the emotional stuff away from the action stuff.
i really like this game, fantastic gameplay, minigames to the nth degree, full 100% run is like 90 hours not counting hard mode run through, looks gorgeous 90% of the time (just dont look too close at a lot of textures) but… i feel they reslly botched the scenes that were meant to be much slower and emotional.
@@godsplayingfield Heh. Well, I definitely agree with you on the Dyne scene. I was also pretty disappointed in that, and for basically the same reasons as you.
Personally, though, I loved pretty much everything about the whole end sequence, although I admit I have kind of different opinions to many people on how the remake project is adding new stuff. I never wanted a strict remake - everything they do to make it different to the original is basically a plus to me.
And the thing is, I was never going to find Aerith's actual death emotional. I kind of got over that decades ago. Some of the moments leading up to it absolutely destroyed me, though.
Also, I don't mind being confused. I like not knowing where things are going.
Oh don't get me wrong, I really like the added story. The whole zack side and additional context for stuff is great to me, as well as so much of the sephy mind fckery of Cloud (though could do with lil less of him just being there and be more implied but eh, i get why) And while yeah I got over Aeriths thing decades ago (old man here) there isn't the same impact of it any more as there are instant distractions. Even if the og wasn't a thing and this was all an entirely new game and story, I feel like I would gave the same issue with it. I do really like the ending though.
All of chapter 10 feels incredibly bungled
I don't know why but this remake of Red XIII reminds me of Cheetor from Transformers Beast Wars.
And that's just Prime.
in the original i cried more to red 13's moment then any other.
Same
It just hit me. Is Red supposed to be Simba? As in from the lion king. Seriously, that sounds like a Simba soundalike, and there are similarities.
I was calling him the lion king since i didn’t know his real name 😂
I was annoyed at Bugenhagen this whole section but his character development definitely surprised me! I loved this character arc.
His side quests are a must. He had a mini-character arc after all, plus more Nanaki.
This wasn’t anywhere near as good as the original scene.
Why is Red XIII sounding like Simba
He was faking the "mature, serious" voice. He's still a teenager for his species
I honestly like the fake voice of red's better
@@sarasmith2908 Eh, both voice are charming in their own ways. His mature voice is cool and badass, while his normal voice is cute and adorable
I know right thank you I do like them both but I like the other one better
It's always implied that Nanaki has a younger voice in the Japanese PS1 game by how they write his dialogue by giving him an accent when speaking with his real young voice. Even his Japanese voice in Advent Children sounds a bit younger than his Gruffier English voice.
Remember how the original english made mistakes like mistaken Aerith for Aeries? This is the same case.
Seto: I’m not really dead! I’ve just been petrified!
What a fantastic moment. The music hits just right. I definitely cried.
at first i though seto tears also turn into a pearl thats why the sound is trink trink trink in the original
One of my absolute favorite parts of the game. This was beautifully done
The biggest issue I have with emotional scenes in the remake is how they don't let you breathe. Something always has to happen, usually Sephiroth appearing, that takes me out of these scenes.
Red XIII in Shinra: Scar
Red XIII in Cosmo Canyon: Simba
Nanaki walked so Torgal could run, Torgal ran so Nanaki could fly.
One thing I never understood.
The Gi were sealed in a cave behind gates. But Seto is seen against the moon. Meaning outside. Why wouldn't the Gi just climb around the cave, if there is an opening like this??
I've been looking at the map and trying to figure out where in Cosmo Canyon one could conceivably look down and see Seto. I don't get how it lines up.
@@user-ll8lw6jy3l Hadn't even thought of doing that. But honestly, this has been bugging me ever since I was a kid! It's a small thing, and shouldn't bother me, bit it does!
cuz they are still scared of seto.....even as he turned to stone.
i think it was mentioned in the reveal to nanaki about his dads fate.
I’m not gonna lie…..NOT a fan of the kiddie voice for red XIII
They did this entire scene so right.
When Seto started tearing up I lost it.
Aw what a cool scen-GO AWAY SEPHIROTH
Feels less impactful to me than the original.
I agree. The story is better in the original.
The entire game is less impactful. Especially the horrible soundtrack.
the remake project is kinda a convoulted mess
@@terry85marff7 elitists try not to be toxic AF
I was really hoping they'd nail this scene in particular, but everything feels contrived, flat, and... shitty anime like.
Bummer.
Seeing this again… it has Tidus x Jecht vibes
Anyone else pick up that the voice actor of GI Natak is the same person who voiced the first FF7 remake trailer in 2015?
Ohhhhhh interesting
Hearing his son acknowledge him and shedding tears. My god. This scene hits hard just as much as Aeriths. Son of the brave warrior Seto!
no materia was formed from Seto's tear >:(
This scene is just so beautiful
They're really overusing sephiroth
It’s not Sephiroth. Actually play the original FFVII. It’s Jenova. And it makes sense she’d be everywhere as she is literally in every cell in Cloud’s body.
@SoulsLords
1. Jenova is representing Sephiroth since Hojo says in the Northern Crater that Sephiroth has usurped The Reunion. I know that because I did play the original game
2. It makes no sense for Sephiroth to be here since this is Red XIII's/ Nanaki's story, not Cloud's. And reason Sephiroth has no reason to be in Barret's story or Yuffie's story
@@SoulsLords actually not sure this is jenova like og.
Seph is a lot more present un this remake because it will be a back to past for hum in other timeline , seems it will be the Real sephiroth from the future , After his death and his return to the life stream
It is annoying. I wanna dive into the other characters’ stories and it’s always about Sephiroth
It's not a fan game they have the rights to ff7 see? there's sephiroth again
The only thing that I would change about this scene is have the GI stuff happen on our way back. Instead of it happening right away. Same goes to Dyne.
In this scene, Bugenhagen’s lines are better than in the original. By miles. Red’s lines are better in the original.
Absolutely agree.
The remake games so far have had some amazing music but im not really a fan of this version of "Great Warrior". It was my favorite song from the original, only played in this scene, and while its much larger here it just doesnt hit like thr original. Really surprised given how well the Cosmo Canyon theme itself was updated.
When I watched the original as a kid I cried both to the song and the scene, when I watched the TFS I could not stop laughing at the joke with Seto, in this scene I have mixed feelings I want to cry because it’s amazing as the original, and at the same time when I heard the howl I hear a muffled scream and see the words “MY SON IS AN IDIOT!!”
I need an hd rip of this version of Cosmo canyon that's played specifically at the part with setos tears
When mastered the gameplay on this title, Nanaki and Barret are the real OP ones you can put your trust on. I mean, their skillsets and stats put together are overkill!
This was the scene I was looking forward to the most. Just reached this part and came here to watch it again.
Nanaki, I hate to break it to you but people can auction a "supersoft" in Treno :(
I thought 7:20 was a typo and what Cloud said afterwards didn't make sense. "Thou" is "thousand", not old style "you" -- "We'll back you up for two thousand gil" -- My brain did not register it as "thousand" at all and I had to come here to rewatch the scene because I thought I was having a stroke
That's not Cloud lol
@@vnenkpetRead my comment again. I said "what Cloud said AFTERWARDS didn't make sense", when he says "This one's free". I'm fully aware who is who

@@michaelrobosa146Not really. He used to be mysterious in the original game. They ruined that mystery.
@@alexd2316his mystery came from misinterpretations and mistranslations. Like them not being able to explain sephiroth's situation well.
@@mr.monkey354His mystery came from the fact that
(a) he wasn’t shown for a long time
(b) you didn’t fight him for a long time
(c) every hint pointed to how strong he was. Your team gets captured and jailed in Shinra HQ, unable to topple its henchmen? Well, Sephiroth takes all of it out. You need to hunt down a chocobo to bypass the Midgar zolom? Sephiroth impales it on a tree. People speak his name with fear, etc, etc.
These remakes he’s annoying you from the getgo and you’ve already fought him in angel form.
@@b-six-twelve its not a remake. Its a sequel.
original scene is so MUCH better than this
I was kind of disappointed with this scene. I wish Red would’ve kept his deep voice, it was so cool. I know that were trying to convey that Nanaki is still in his youth, but they could’ve just said he was only mentally 16 and I would’ve believed it.
2:03 and right after this line, Bugenhagen should’ve invited Red to climb the mountain for a moment with his father. No Bugenhagen, no Gi Nattak, and no Sephiroth. Just Red reconciling with his father and accepting his lineage. Then, after declaring that he is the son of Seto and watcher of the vale, he comes back down and the scene continues with Red learning about why his mother kept the truth from him.
But instead it’s just a voice-cracking feline howling on the floor, and then the game moves on. Maybe it’s just me, but it felt kind of underwhelming. They could’ve built up Red’s hatred towards his father better, and the payoff wasn’t there for me.
I thought I was ready for this, I was so very wrong
NGL, Nanaki's deeper voice was WAY better.
I don't care if it was a intentional change, its way too high.

This is awful in comparison to the original... The overuse of the rest of the cast in a scene that should have been only Red, Bug, and Seto, we get flooded with unnecessary angles that completely take away from the impact the original had, and god that voice for Red... fuck... For those wondering, Seto is dead. The "tear" was mostly a symbolic thing this isn't quite as sad as in the original with the music and tempo, the original creator even confirmed Seto is dead. The tear is an homage to the original game.

First time i have seen a feline howl
they nailed this scene, my favorite moment from the OG. I cried just arriving to cosmo canyon, this part destroyed me man.
This scene is perfect except for the Seto crying moment for me. The music is insanely good, but I think it swelling and getting all epic just as it shows the tears was a bad call. I think that moment would've hit harder if instead the music actually became more subtle as to not be distracting and drawing too much attention to itself.
Everyone is a critic these days
Yeah, I'm also part of the camp that vastly prefers the OG version of this (AND THAT scene in chapter 14). My expectations were high for this scene, and they ALMOST met them... until they decided to ruin the moment and bloat it with unnecessary stuff that was NOT in the original (same with the chapter 14 scene). Square Enix, man...
What a beautiful scene 😢❤
I was soo hyped to play this even with the weird convoluted story direction the first took and seeing gameplay... Why does this terrible voice change execution feel like the tipping point that might make me not want to subject myself to this game?
I'm really enjoying the game, but this scene really didn't live up to the original.
This scene made me cry was just done beautifully they have done a amazing job woth rebirth
