This is probably my favorite moment of the game. Game: Final Fantasy VII (Final Fantasy 7, FF7, FFVII) System: Playstation (PSX) Genre: Role-playing game (RPG)
Such a powerful scene. The realisation that his dad wasn't a coward but saved everyone. Then hearing his son acknowledge this and shed tears... I'm done.
I feel like this is a unique scene too, let's think about it, how often is a character's thoughts and beliefs completely shattered by a truth that they never believed in? In this manner specifically? How many characters in these stories go their whole lives believing something that's wrong to deeply regret it when they find out the truth? How many characters are changed and shaped in a way like this? It's hard to make unique characters after our years of history on the Earth but this is actually pretty unique in addition to being the saddest scene in FFVII. I know people talk about Aerith's death all the time, but I know for most of us here, this scene hits much harder than that does.
I think this scene is the greatest in FF7 and of any game I've ever played. Nanaki is son to the great warrior Seto and chooses the same suicide mission as his father, but this time it is to help Cloud and his friends save the planet from dying. That's also why the ending is so unbelievably great. I choose to think that Cloud is a minor character and that the main protagonist is really Nanaki. That's also why I choose to have him in most every party formation. Also, "Nanaki is Nanaki."
When I was little and played the scene for the 1st time i had no idea what that was lol. I drew the conclusion that it was the Seraph Comb falling to Nanaki lol

There's something about this original score that is so much more powerful than the Remake's. I like most of the redone score, but the originals can't be touched. It's like their simplicity and the sound of the midi format just creates something special and unique.

Man the music for each character is genius! Each piece of music per character is truly memorable, to include the characters themselves and their backstory.
Cid and Seto's story always make me depressed. Even though fiction, they're perhaps the most accurate symbol of true sacrifice. Enlightening to think these stories may have changed some people since youth to see certain situations in one's life differently.

It's actually FF7-2, not a remake. Sephiroth sees himself get defeated in the original FF7, and is working to prevent that in the "remake". That makes it a sequel in my opinion, an echo of an already existing timeline.
The scene is so powerful. I think I really fell in love with this game at this moment. Some fathers out there are looked at in such a negative light due to rumors and misunderstandings...while trying their best to give their family a better life. Red 13 hated his father for a long time because of the stories that was told to him. That moment in Gi cave he realized Seto's love for him and his mother was beyond measure. It's so sad when the real heros die alone.

I generally enjoyed Rebirth. But this scene is greater here because despite obviously looking not up to date, it depicts Nanaki and Bugenhagen's emotions much better. Especially the latter's since he's not doubting his knowledge of the world, but trying to do as much as he can to save it, even if it's pointless. Not to mention that only two characters are in this scene, not the whole damn party checking how Seto sheds a tear.

No one is saying this in the comments and I want it to be heard and seen. Your father's sacrifice so much for you. That's the main reason why this scene hits so hard. Because a father is a protector through and through and he will do it even if not given the title. Nanaki finally saw that
Mine wasn't. He was a coward who ran and eventually killed himself with meth. A net gain for the world. I have a son now, though, and I'll walk through Hell for him if I have to. I know what it is to hate your father, and what it is to care more for your child than you do for yourself. This scene always gets me for that.

I just started playing ff7, the first final fantasy game I've ever played. Just made it to this scene. Never thought I'd shed a tear over the story behind an obvious polygon, but here we are.
Just passed this part in the game last night, after not playing this game for 20 years... Almost teared up myself when Nanaki's (Red XIII's) stone father started crying. This game is absolutely timeless.

This is the ONLY scene that I tear up on and almost cry. Every time I replay the game, and I've gone through it dozens of times. It's that music more than anything. And the tears from Seto. And Nanaki vowing to live up to Seto's name, and the howling. Jesus..I'm such a man baby lol.
I never cried when old yeller died. I never cried when mufassa in the lion king died. I never cried anytime during the entire play through of FFX. I never cried even when Aeris died... But this scene got me for some reason. I wanted to crawl through the TV like the girl from "The Ring" just to give Nanaki a hug. I cant even imagine what this scene in the remake would be like, i hope they keep it in the game.

@@GregoryAlanBaileygamereviews Metal Gear was a great game. I'm still baffled how psycho mantis was able to guess the games I play by reading the memory card.
Favorite scene in the entire game, with my favorite character in the entire game. THIS was the moment I realized why FF7 was more than just another Final Fantasy game
I just played this part of the game and let me just say, this is one of the more underrated parts I rarely hear get talked about. Nanaki his whole life believed his father abandoned him and his mother and had nothing but hate towards him. When he found out he was fighting off the Gi Tribe and was never able to return, he changed and it already made him a great character. I know it’s easy for me to say cause I’m such a fanboy of Nanaki, but this moment genuinely made me love his character. After this whole revelation, he’s determined to carry one his father’s legacy and that makes it so much beautiful. The way Seto sheds tears made me believe he was still alive and hearing every word his own son was saying and was proud. Nanaki surely has grown not physically, but mentally. I’m just hoping this scene will show in the second part of the remake and hoping they do it justice with the hardware and graphics they have. If it does happen, I’m probably gonna cry. Definitely a scene worth remembering imo.
People always talk about how Aerith's death impacted them the most. For me, this was that moment. I remember playing the game blind 5 years ago in 2017 when I was 16. FF7 was always my moms favourite in the franchise so I thought to give it a try and when I got to this part I just started crying. This is why Red XIII/Nanaki will always be one of my favourite characters in the game.
This was the scene my 13 year old self found saddest when this game came out. Still is, forget Aeris dying, Seto crying materia tears will always be the saddest scene.
This might be my first exposure to the "We are doomed to fail and will die... but let try anyway" trope This shit is the sort of stuff that keeps me going
Consider this: Seto went up to commit a heroic feat, knowing that it happens in a manner where he looks like he's running away and leaving everyone fend off for themselves, not ever expecting anyone to find out the truth. Not for glory but what's right. And then not only seeing his son to suddenly come to see him after all to learn what really happened but to hear him being declared a Warrior after all these years of having made the ultimate sacrifice in more than one way... it'd bring tears from beyond death, especially when his son also declares to hope to live up to his name.
I cried when I was a boy.. thinking of how Nanaki felt about his father and how it related to my father.. Now I cry as a man, thinking of Seto and how I would sacrifice myself for my son in a heartbeat... Debate all you want. There isn't a better Final Fantasy than #7.
It's not sad! Nanaki's shame at his father's treason has been replaced with a pride in his father's bravery and selflessness. Seto's sorrow at knowing his son will forever curse his name has been replaced with the pride that his son now reveres and honours his memory. Emotional, yes. But sad? No, this was an awesome moment for Seto and Nanaki :-)
The sad part is yet to come, imagine being able to live 500 to 1000 years and having to see everyone or thing you ever cared about die or get destroyed repeatedly. Vincent probably wouldn't give him the time or day.
I completely agree, Indigocell. I'm thinking of recording this scene and slowing down the dialogue to fit what I think the speed they talk at actually is.
Probably the most emotional scene in the game for me, just behind Avalanche's fall. Sadly, I found out about Aeris' death before I played FFVII so it didn't have much of an impact on me as I saw it coming, and tried to determine when it would happen, but I know it would've been more emotional had I not known.

No offense to Aeris' death, but this is right up there with Lavitz dying in Legend of Dragoon for really tear-jerking moments. To learn the father you hated for years because you thought he was a coward, sacrificed himself to protect your people and homeland, that is just powerful.
Yeah, the Rebirth version of the scene is still great, but I feel like it hits less hard almost 100% because the music isn't clenching at your soul the whole time.
I really hope later on in the remake, they'll make justice to this scene. It's so moving and well done. This is one of the reasons Red XIII or Nanaki will always be one of my favourite characters of the game.

Anyone's who's lost their father prematurely feels this scene even more. I lost my dad earlier this year and I think he gave me a sign that he's still around recently. So this scene is pretty heavy, and the music is touching. They don't make games like this anymore, only other one I can think of is Metal Gear Solid from 1998.
There's something about this original score that is so much more powerful than the Remake's. I like most of the redone score, but the originals can't be touched. It's like their simplicity and the sound of the midi format just creates something special and unique.
The original game story wise is better than remake.
I do miss this kind of experience in video games.

Red XIII’s howling is the only time you hear one of the characters voices in this game.
Also Seto’s tears looked like materia so I tried going back to collect them but couldn’t.

Literally only two video game scenes made me cry: the Raine & Laguna scene at the ending of FF8 and this masterpiece of a scene here. Square Soft were sure able to craft some magic back in the day.

The Scene,The Mood,The Music,The Feels. this is why Final Fantasy 7 cannot be surpassed.

Can't wait to see how they do this scene in the remake.
They probably say he never died and take away all the character development like they are doing now
@@w0Mbol0Gy WTF they have lots of character development lol
The remake scene will have a motorbike chase 🤣
You will have to wait for and buy dlc #14 to find out!

Rebirth chapter 10 onwards absolutely sucked imo. But anyway, I'm here to enjoy this wonderful moment and track from OG ❤
I played it about 20y ago and I still cry watching it. LOL

This and when Tidus finds out what really happens to Yuma after her pilgrimage is two of those heart aching story elements
Nanaki
All his life thought of his dad as a coward to find out he has been redeemed as the most bravest warrior and even to this day he fights off the GI as he sheds a tear finally hearing his son being honored by his lineage

OG Seto scene > rebirth
I just started playing ff7, the first final fantasy game I've ever played. Just made it to this scene. Never thought I'd shed a tear over the story behind an obvious polygon, but here we are.
@kingbadmovie its always about the story and music, not graphics.
@@paulsmith9192 very true
Just passed this part in the game last night, after not playing this game for 20 years... Almost teared up myself when Nanaki's (Red XIII's) stone father started crying. This game is absolutely timeless.

who loves this scene too? i never cry, but this made me drop tears!
15 years later since its release im 26 and that scene still chokes me up
I never cried when old yeller died.

This scene in HD, even after all these years I'm not gonna be ready for this in the remakes
Favorite scene in the entire game, with my favorite character in the entire game. THIS was the moment I realized why FF7 was more than just another Final Fantasy game
@eli eddy wonder if in part 2 if we can finally cure Seto of his curse? I've always wondered how was able to cry if he's turned to stone?
If this scene still makes me cry in the remake, then it will have been a successful remake.
This scene always gives me the chills
Its gonna be a tear jerker after Bugenhagens dies too.
Final Fantasy VII has so many moments that makes you cry. This is one of them.
This scene always gets me too. But on a side note, I just wish I could have collected all that materia that Seto was crying....
Each warrior must weep
This was the scene my 13 year old self found saddest when this game came out. Still is, forget Aeris dying, Seto crying materia tears will always be the saddest scene.
Anytime I need to cry like hell for a minute, I just come here.
Rebirth did not do this scene justice IMHO
Understatement. I'm treating rebirth as fan fiction tbh. The original ff7 is just special
This might be my first exposure to the "We are doomed to fail and will die... but let try anyway" trope
This shit is the sort of stuff that keeps me going
This is such a gorgeous scene.
I still weep at this scene
This scene I cried more at than the Aeris shock death. Brave Seto and poor RedXIII. Okay imma just gonna cry agen
1 more month waiting for us to cry again.
Years later and I still can't do this without crying
This scene is part of my childhood, good stuff
Nanaki ❤ Sometimes I can't stop to cry when I see this scene
This is why ff7 is (imo) the best of the series, man the feels 😭
Been well over a decade since i played this game and the second i heard the music it released some deep seeded emotion from long ago.. Choked me up...
I'm not looking forward to this part in the remake.
;_;
+Somni HD yeah same here...but this scene in new version may cause a flood in my house=P
It will be completely overdone and shit or they will skip it
Ne neither. I'm not sure I have enough tears to cry.
Doubt the remake will have it.
@@robertmccaulley8559 it wont, the game takes place only on midgar
I cried when I was a boy.. thinking of how Nanaki felt about his father and how it related to my father..
Now I cry as a man, thinking of Seto and how I would sacrifice myself for my son in a heartbeat...
Debate all you want. There isn't a better Final Fantasy than #7.
This..... this scene.... breaks me down every time. 💔
Damn that song is amazing.
Never, ever, fails to make me cry.
Dammit… ❤️
One of the saddest scenes in all of gaming history. What a masterful game.
This is gonna be absolutely heartbreaking in ff7 rebirth
you messed up by going through the dialogues so fast that's what made the scene such a awesome part
+Branden Brown I guess I am a fast reader.
It wasn't too fast. It was the perfect speed.
No, too fast, you need to let the emotion resonate for a bit. As if they were lines being spoken aloud.
Talk to me when you've played this so many times that you go through three copies. Lol
I completely agree, Indigocell. I'm thinking of recording this scene and slowing down the dialogue to fit what I think the speed they talk at actually is.
Best game all of time ever made. And i was teenager for discovered this. 🥰
Probably the most emotional scene in the game for me, just behind Avalanche's fall. Sadly, I found out about Aeris' death before I played FFVII so it didn't have much of an impact on me as I saw it coming, and tried to determine when it would happen, but I know it would've been more emotional had I not known.
man im getting legit goosebumps all over
Aerith dying : I sleep. Son's acknowledgment of father's sacrifice making frozen dad cry in his death : real shit
THIS WAS MY MOMENT. This was the moment where i was sure - this is the best games of all fucking fucktimes FUCK

This is the most heart wrenching scene in the whole game!
No offense to Aeris' death, but this is right up there with Lavitz dying in Legend of Dragoon for really tear-jerking moments. To learn the father you hated for years because you thought he was a coward, sacrificed himself to protect your people and homeland, that is just powerful.
I wish Rebirth would've included this same music
Yeah, the Rebirth version of the scene is still great, but I feel like it hits less hard almost 100% because the music isn't clenching at your soul the whole time.
I really hope later on in the remake, they'll make justice to this scene. It's so moving and well done.
This is one of the reasons Red XIII or Nanaki will always be one of my favourite characters of the game.
And...here come the man-tears.
Very sad and powerful scene! By far FF7 is the best FF ever.
Gonna bawl like crazy when this scene appears in the next part of the Remake...
this in the remake is going to kill me. 4k emotions, the music, va and character expressions... man this game is such a masterpiece
Damn, it gets me everytime...
This is one of my favorite scenes in the whole game
I didn't cry when Aerith died.
But this...
Also, dude, I have like 99 Softs in my inventory...
Made it to :48 before the damned onions got me.
The greatest game ever. I mean it. Uematsu-san at his best.
