randomly stumbled upon this video as my boya v1 arrives today. I dont plan on using the mic for outdoor nature purposes but wow that noise cancelling when you are walking outside with clealry strong winds present is pretty incredible. This mic seems absolutely fanstastic for 30 odd quid that i paid for it on amazon
It’s a great mic for the price I’ve had mine for over a year now I think and I can’t fault it. It’s even better with a “comica wind muffler”. I think they’re out of stock now on Amazon but you can get similar. It’s got a little tie to keep it on. Well worth looking into as now I don’t even use the noise reduction feature just pop the mufffler on the top and leave it on all the time. The sponge one that came with it occasionally popped off. All the best with it.
will finally get one, your video concluded my decision mate! Like you, I also go to the mountains where wind noise is ALWAYS an issue during post processing. Thanks for sharing!
No problem. I will also add that since that video I bought a pack of three wind mufflers that attach to the top. That can be tightened on to the mic. The ones I bought were from Amazon and were called “comica Pack of 3 Fur Windscreen for Microphone, Mini Microphone Fur Microphone Windscreen Muff, Wind & Pop Filter for Lavalier Microphone/VideoMic/Mobile Phone Microphone (Black)”. I think they are unavailable now but there are loads of other types to choose from. Just type “lavalier microphone wind muff” or something like that. With one of those on you don’t even need to use the noise reduction feature you can just use it as it is and it cuts out the majority of the horrible wind noise. In very very bad wind you may get a slight wind noise but nothing that you would need to worry about at all. For my videos on my channel wild camping and hiking that set up is PERFECT for me and at a budget cost too! Hope this helps.
That’s great, hope it works out well for you. Extra piece of info for you since o did the video, I bought these from Amazon. They come in a pack of three and they have a tie so you can tighten it up. “comica Pack of 3 Fur Windscreen for Microphone, Mini Microphone Fur Microphone Windscreen Muff, Wind & Pop Filter for Lavalier Microphone/VideoMic/Mobile Phone Microphone (Black)” They come in two colours, black and a grey/black. Basically I just use this on the top now and it basically means I never need to use the noise reduction feature. Had it out in very high winds and no interference. Definitely worth getting in my opinion as the other sponge top kept falling off. Hope it helps.
I have the DJI mic and what is handy, is that even though I may have the radio receiver plugged into my phone or camcorder, sometimes (rare) I may loose reception. Now what is handy is that the transmitter attached to my coat/vest auto records my voice. So if I lose transmission then I still have a back up. However the price is far far more expensive than the boya! For the price of the boya, I might buy it, stow it away for a backup! Thanks for sharing!
That's good to have and nice to know that there is a fall back if it goes wrong etc. I lost a bit of footage on my last camp due to mic issues. Think it either got wet or was low on charge... doh!
That’s great. Since I did that video I bought a set of three wind muffs that are perfect for it. They’re so good you don’t need to use the noise reduction feature and there is a drawstring to tighten it onto the mic. Got them from Amazon. Here’s the info> comica Pack of 3 Fur Windscreen for Microphone, Mini Microphone Fur Microphone Windscreen Muff, Wind & Pop Filter for Lavalier Microphone/VideoMic/Mobile Phone Microphone (Black)
I was really surprised at just how good it was. I wasn't expecting much at all but its great to be able to wander off and still have it capturing clear sound. 😀
It's all just recorded on your iphone vid, so really straight forward. Such a noticeable difference in quality compared to the iphone's own mic. You'll love it. Especially exploring how to use it in your YT vids. Has a 50m radius apparently. When you get it set your phone recording in a room and wander around the house and garden to see how far it can still pick your voice up. If you have an android phone its a different connector/mic set that you'll need. It states in the description on Amazon.
They are great - I had exactly the same experience of recording some footage which was practically unusable. I went for a pair of lavellier mics which look very similar to this one. The advantage of the Lavelliers is that they come in a charging case which will charge them six times and you get 3-4 hours per charge. When one runs out, you just swap over. They have noise reduction built in, it just works automatically. Im sure there are many other models too, but they are definitely worth getting. Ive also bought some "dead cat" covers because Ive found that they get lost very easily (think they were about twenty pence each!)
That’s good to know. A charging case would definitely be an advantage. I’ll have a look! As long as this Boya mic lasts and doesn’t break in the next few weeks I’ll be happy with it. Such a difference when I did the sound test.
ill have a look at that mate because i was wondering about that mics when i was watching one of your videos do they all so work on insta and dji camaras or is it just phones buddy
Mine works directly by plugging into an iPhone as it’s the lightning connection. You can buy one for the android/Samsung phones. Great mic that saves a few pennies as the Rode and DJI mics are £££££
Hi, when I did the microphone test it was all live. iPhone mic, Boya mic no noise reduction, then Boya mic with noise reduction. No editing was done in the actual processing of the vid. Hope this helps.
Hi there, there was no editing. I’m not affiliated with Boya and it is a 100% independent review. It’s been a great mic especially when linked with a muffler on the top which you can get from Amazon. Hope this helps
Is it possible to attach the lapel clip to a cold shoe mount? I use my iphone for shooting holiday videos and it’s in a vlogging tripod that has a cold shoe mount for accessories. I need a discreet mic that doesn’t take too much space, but I don’t need it on me. So I was wondering how feasible would it be if I purchased this and attached it to the tripod.
The best results come from when the microphone is placed fairly close to where the sound is being produced so if it’s speech really should be close to the mouth when talking. Hope this helps
@@HikingForHealth1 no I don’t talk in my videos. It’s mostly recordings of the views of the places etc and then I add music to my videos. I just want the natural sounds to sound better and not have to deal with wind noise. This is why I want to attach it to a cold shoe mount and I really liked its size because it’s very discreet. I own the rode micro but it’s too bulky and attracts unwanted attention.
Ah for ambient sounds it should be great then. And for that price it’s worth the chance as they’re not very expensive. I like using mine and have no problems with it. I tend not to use the noise reduction feature as I use a muffler over the top “comica Pack of 3 Fur Windscreen for Microphone, Mini Microphone Fur”
Thanks for this useful video. I’ve just bought one but noticed there isn’t a light indicating charging on the receiver although there is a light indicating when it’s paired to the mic. Is this the same on yours or do I have a faulty one? Not really a problem but you can’t see when it’s fully charged!
Thanks for watching. Yes unfortunately that’s something I would improve as it is difficult to know when it’s charged. Although, I tend to leave it on for an hour and that has been suitable for a whole day of use so the battery definitely lasts well. Another tip is keep it out of the rain. I had to return one as it got wet. All the best.
@@HikingForHealth1 cool and many thanks for your response. At least I now know they are all the same. I did wonder if it charged when connected to the phone but probably not 🤔
Is this mic good for outdoor use in traffic situations with horn sounds, vehicle noise, birds, and construction noise? My home is very close to a main road, and it's noisy 24/7. I can't record a video without hearing vehicle horns; they're beeping constantly. I have tried the Asus noise-canceling adapter, but it's not working well with my Android device-it picks up all the road noise too. Could anyone suggest if this mic would solve these problems? Thanks in advance ❤
Hi, I use mine when hiking outdoors sometimes in very high wind. When used with this>>> comica Pack of 3 Fur Windscreen for Microphone, Mini Microphone Fur Microphone Windscreen Muff, Wind & Pop Filter for Lavalier Microphone/VideoMic/Mobile Phone Microphone (Black) (link from Amazon) I don’t even need to use the noise reduction feature as it cancels it out. I’ve had it a year now and works great for me and for the cheap price it’s definitely worth taking a chance. Hope this helps.
Great explanation , Just need to know - does it work with the voice recorder on the iPhone - (Only Audio no Video) Please check and let me know before I purchase it as that is my primary purpose - Thanks - Riel
Hello, well I’ve just tested it and I’m pleased to say IT WORKS and the sound quality is excellent. I plugged everything in started it recording. Walked into another room shut the door and the sound was crystal clear on the play back. I’m pleased because I’m going to use that too! Thanks for commenting. And all the best.
Wow really impressed with the quality! Do you know if it's possible to connect it on macbook? Maybe with a lightning to type c adapter. And on iPhone it works immediately when you plug? Work with all the apps (camera, voice recorder, voice message on WhatsApp, Instagram etc)?
Hi, yes with the iPhone it’s plug and play and as far as I am aware it works with apps. It basically takes over from the in built mic. I’ve been really happy with it. Just don’t get it wet as mine went faulty after being out in the rain for a few seconds. Sorry I haven’t tested connecting to MacBook but with an adapter perhaps. Can definitely recommend for the price and saves having to buy a more expensive DJI or RODE mic. All the best.
What do you know about using the mic while is raining? The transmiter it will be ok if it stay in the rain? I am asking because i will use it while i am fishing...and some days are rainy. Thx!
Hi, it isn’t very good in the rain and will malfunction of it gets wet. I keep mine dry at all times. I’ve had to return one because of this and also a friend who has one had theirs stop working because they got it wet. Hope this helps. All the best.
@@HikingForHealth1 thank you so much, i will not use it when it's raining then. The mic i could hide him under my jacket when is raining, but the reciever have to be plugged in the phone...so no rainy days for boya 😁
I bought the same, received it today. But it sound is too slow when place where you did in the video, while when i hold it in hand close to the mouth it sounds good (loud). Is there a problem with it?
The volume is generally louder the closer you place it to your mouth but I’ve not had an issue with mine being too low if it is clip on to the jacket. I wonder if you have the noise reduction feature on (green light). I never use the noise reduction I just bought a muffler for the top and use that all the time. Really pleased with it. It’s a great mic for the price.
