The problem with comparing the games is that with Lego games nostalgia will always win out. I'm sure that 99% of the people who watched this played the either Complete Saga or Batman 1 as their first Lego game, hell they were my first games ever. So as much as I think the new games have improved drastically on the formula and are deserving of lots of praise, it's hard to overcome all those pesky memories of playing the OG games on your Xbox and fat TV after school
When I was born, the first tt lego games were coming out, so the first lego games I played ended up being the newer ones, but I’ve went back and played some of the older ones. I am loving it. I gotta say my my favorites are lego Star Wars the complete saga, Harry Potter years 1-4 and lego pirates of the Caribbean.
I was around 4 or 5 when when lego Star Wars released to be honest I never played lego Star Wars my parents never really liked buying me video games they’re old school they though video games are a waste of time but the few they did buy me were lego Indiana Jones Harry Potter and lego Batman these were my all time favorites I recently bought a couple of them again and I got the biggest nostalgia wave I’ve ever felt I felt like I was a kid again good times man
@@NightmareTrash88 yeah lego Batman was so fun to me I enjoyed getting 100% in that game, and since I got the platinum trophies in the Batman Arkham games, I’m gonna try to 100% lego Harry Potter 1-4. Thing for me is I was a 2006 kid so I didn’t really play any of the old lego games, I don’t get the same nostalgia, but I’m still having a blast playing through these old games. I personally think that the old lego games are better because they have a certain charm, maybe the fact that because of the mumbles they had to act things out, but overall I just love them.

I was born in 1995 so i didn't get TT Lego games till i was 10 (which was a great age for it don't get me wrong) but i also absolutely loved the other Lego games that were out already and still have lots of fun memories from them! i remember playing the hell out of the first lego island and island extreme stunts and also the Bionicle games not to mention nearly everything that was on the old lego games site! its ridiculous how much fun lego has bought me in 26 years and how much fun i still have left to go! I have to say though as much as i loved those games the furthest back i'm willing to play these days is the complete saga i just can't handle the clunky-ness of old games anymore unfortunately xD
I think that Lego DC Supervillains has got to be one of the best Lego games. Just think about it, it's got Metropolis, Smallville, Gotham, Arkham, Belle Reeve and even Apokolips. The character roster has anyone you would ever want from the DC universe and the speedsters are so sick. The story isn't horrible (you get to create your own character that interacts with iconic DC universe characters). Also the fact that they were able to get Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy is just so crazy!
Tara Strong as Harley Quinn, Brandon Routh as Shazam, Michael Ironside as Darkseid, Clancy Brown as Lex Luthor, Dee Bradley Baker as DeSaad and Sea King, John Barrowman as Malcolm Merlyn, Tom Kane as Jim Gordon, Michael Rosebaum as the Flash, etc. It had an insane voice cast.
The old LEGO games that had a menu to choose levels were all goated ( Comp Saga, Batman 1, Indiana Jones 1) Only thing wrong with these games are some of the vehicle levels
I don't think giving the minifigure a voice and creating an open world is a match for lego games. I preferred the older games, they had this unique atmosphere.

The big difference between old and new Lego games is the voice and grunt. I honestly can't tell which one is better for me, I'm still playing the voice but I was born with the grunt Lego games, so I love both of it. I can't even tell which Lego game is my favorite. Btw, anyone feel like Batman 2 have both vibes? I mean, it's the first talking Lego games, but some cut scenes just feel like the grunt one

Obviously there’s going to be bias, but I still think many aspects of the old games are better such as the lack of voice acting which I think just fits the simplistic style of Lego better

I'm so glad u brought up the Co-op aspect, I hate the new split screen co-op, I'd rather be stuck with my mate on the same screen just so we don't have to look at half the screen
The older Lego games had a much more “show don’t tell” type of approach to the story. Linear lvl design, and a far superior gameplay/health system. (Seriously why did they change the hearts in skywalker saga?) I also prefer the perspective in the older games as I can see the area I’m in much easier, it just feels right and makes co op a hell of a lot easier than it is now. I HATE the new combat system they adopted in force awakens and have been using ever since, if I wanted to play a strategic shooter and use cover I’d play gears of war or something. Like that’s not what I play a Lego game for lol
New Lego games are too automatic. Old ones, at least until TLOTR were more fun because they made sure that every action had its weight and mechanic. Every movement could be entertaining. That's why (unpopular opinion) some games that were released for the 3DS and PS Vita were better than their counterparts for big consoles: due to the restrictions in technology, they were less automatic and more "classical". For example Batman 3, although others like The Avengers and even The Lord of the Rings were worse in handheld.
Older games just have that classic feel and such nostalgia, newer ones have insanely good graphics and extra activies like free roam open worlds and side quests, but man 100%ing the older games are a PAIN
I am from Mexico, and I prefer games with voice lines because those games are dubbed here (not always) and considering that video games almost never have dubbing in Latin American Spanish, except in some cases (in this case, Lego games) it is a detail that I like too much (Sorry if my english isn't perfect aaaaa)
Honestly I personally think the level design in the older games are way better. Especially when it comes to secret rooms or minikit requirements. Especially in Lego Star Wars complete saga
I feel like it's pretty weird to litterally give the old games better replayability because they have less content. That goes directly againgst what makes a game replayable. The less content there is, the more similar your experience will be every playthrough. I also feel like you only added Co-op to give the old games the edge at the end because the change is so miniscule that it wasn't worth having a category on. But eh, it's all just for fun. Not that serious lol
I think I'm more of a new lego game person, but the choice is quite tough. New LEGO games have the excellent DC Supervillains, and other greats like Batman 2, LOTR, LMSH, and Hobbit. Older ones have such greats as the Harry Potter games, the clone wars, and, of course, Batman. Lego Batman 1 in particular impresses me like few other games, everything about it (except the vehicle missions) are just spot on. The game designers really get Batman in that game, they just got it right (I'm a comic geek in case you didn't guess it haha)
I love having a lot of characters to play with but with the newer games I do sort of get lost in the huge character menu so for the Skywalker Saga I hope they have a sorting system with like jedi, sith, clones,... or maybe multiple menus (one per movie). Or a favorites section would also be great.
Pretty difficult to say. My first thought was definitly the old ones. But then I was thinking about Lord of the Rings and how fun it was to 100% it. Really depends. I 100%ed Lego Star Wars and Indy 1 on regular basis back in the day. Just completed? Just starting a new file and again... I really didn't re100% a newer game except Lego City Undercover. That one is just to brilliant. I did it once on Wii U and once on Switch.
I agree with the newer games drifting away from that original Lego game feeling. But maybe that’s good, because if we never moved on the variety within the games would’ve been bad. And since the new ones are evolving, we are able to go back and get that nostalgia every we start the old games. But I totally agree with newer games not having the same vibe as the old. I mean in Skywalker saga there will be side quests, and so many different planets, each 30 times bigger than the old hub worlds. The old ones are more driven by nostalgia, and the new ones are more advanced and well done.
in my opinion the character roster department should have gone to the older games since in my opinion, you should add how the character roster looks and how easy it is to navigate and not the quantity of the characters since you are comparing older technology to newer ones so the quantity will deffinetly rise. so yea in that regard i completely disagree but still a decent video

Personally prefer the mid-era games, that being Lego Batman 2 - Lego Marvel Avengers/Jurassic World (dunno which came last). Everything that came before is just commonly shrouded in nostalgia while evetything after was too far from the core and most have failed to fully satisfy. Of course, thats just my own opinion. Lego Lord of the Rings, Avengers, Superheroes, Batman 3 and Jurassic World are some of my all time favorite games. Obv Lego Movie id excluded from this generalization
Something I don't like about the more recent Lego Games is that they feel too much like your standard Third Person shooters (I am referring to Skywalker Saga and Force Awakens)
I love the older lego games mainly because of nostalgia I was in college when the older games came out (showing my age) LOL so brings back a lot of memories from that time but I love the new lego games as well. My favourite Lego games: Star Wars Complete Saga (2007) Batman: the Videogame (2008) Star Wars III: Clone Wars (2011) Harry Potter: Years 1-4 (2011) Indiana Jones: Original Adventures (2008) Lord Of the Rings (2012) I also really like Lego City Undercover (2013/17) and Lego Batman 2 DC Superheroes (2012).
Both are absolutely fantastic. Old have more of a charm and funny aspect while having simple and compact games. New have more expanded universes, but can be much more complicated, which is weird for a Lego game. I think Dimensions is one of the best though, because it mixes real life Lego and the games, while holding the point of the company; creating worlds from all of your favorite creations.
Nice and all but your forgetting one more Lego game. Lego City Undercover. One of my favorites. You can actually explore the City. And you get to replay levels to get collectibles. Was available for Wii U only in 2013. And remastered in 2017 for Playstation Xbox and Nintendo Switch. You guys should try it.
both new and old lego games have their own unique kind of charm. personally i prefer the newer style of lego games, but the old ones are just so fun to mess around with as well, i feel like i can have fun with both types in different ways, and thats what makes lego games so great
Definitely the old, which is anything before Skywalker Saga, which changed the formula radically. Skywalker has plenty to like, but they really dumbed down the actual story levels, and put most of the collectibles and puzzle solvign in the open world. A lot of the othre "newer" ones have a ton of open world stuff to find, but they didn't dumb down the story levels. I also prefer the more distant and static camera angles to the new over the shoulder camera..
for me, both voice lines and mumbles are good equally. but, i gotta say, i find it hard to go back to exclusively mumbles. the mumbling def helps the atmosphere of the games hit. like in the first lego batman. but the voice lines are hilarious. And, voice lines make lego games feel like any other game. just made with legos. for me , thats a good thing lol. I've always wanted a full open world marvel or DC or especially star wars game. well, if lego didnt have voices, it would feel less like a really good open world star wars etc game. and more like a "lego" game. if that makes sense. especially since those franchises dont really have good open world games, many, or any at all. The voice lines really helps the games stand up as not just lego games. but great open world games in general

The new games feel busy and lack focus. I recently played the ninjago game and it was just a mess, I watched more than I got to play and they just threw things all around the screen nothing felt solid at all
Fun fact: lego batman 2 was actually based on a lego movie called lego batman something (cant remember) but i swear i have that movie at home and its wicked. The movie and the lego game even share the same box art
The newer Lego games have superior mechanics, but their hub worlds have dearly been lacking. The Skywalker Saga is going to overcome this problem, thankfully, but I hope a possible Infinity Saga game contains maps as large as Marvel 1 and Avengers. I hope you start out in an upgraded New York map, but are ever to fly over to London are Malibu, which are both warped next to each other, and then you can just fly into space, landing on Asgard. You can go from the Rainbow bridge all the way to the stronghold or forest people were hiding in. Other worlds like Ego and Vanaheim would also be an option.
A big con for the old Lego games is the fact there is so little to do my ps4 had to be repaired recently so I started replaying Lego batman 1 on my ps2 and beat the game in two days.
Honestly i prefer the original ones because of how simple they were, im struggling to jump into the skywalker saga because of how complex it is compared to the complete saga
I feel like for, the first point, old wins hands down. Yeah, hearing voices is cool and they work the best with OG stories, but being able to pretty much cohesively tell the stories of these timeless films without a single word of spoken dialog is super fucking commendable. I know what happens in the prequel movies because of the Lego levels more so than actually watching those movies!
I love the talking in games it makes the ip's seem more iconic because the characters say iconic lines but I like the mumbling because it gives me the vibes that there is a kid playing with lego and they are mumbling sounds the characters would make.
Old vs. New for me is open world hub vs. non open world. But I get using the mumble vs. voice lines too especially because that's what a lot of fans use when describing the older ones and they wanted it to return so much they added it in Skywalker Saga. To me the biggest thing I miss from the older games were the levels had more to explore. In Complete Saga, Indy or the first Batman there's so many side rooms you can go into to get a minikit and they usually have a fun puzzle to solve while the newer games don't do that anymore. All the minikits are pretty much on the linear path. You may just not have the right character to get it. That would be my biggest wish personally: Having an open world hub world like current games and having bigger, less linear story levels because now I find myself liking the hub world more than the levels. I'd love to love them equally.
All time favourite? This is a little bit of nostalgia combined with my ever lasting love for the brand but Lego Marvel Superheroes (1) is easily my favourite being the first game for me to get 100% in.
They need to bring back the all out brawl when you hit someone in the hub world for the new Lego games as well all the unlock character walking around, imagine you hit someone with the Hulk and every super hero and villain brawling each other in the middle of the town.
Would have given the "levels" category to old since the new ones have soooo many micro cutscenes which are a pain when replaying... It's honestly the reason why I didn't 100% DC villains, they bored me after the 355th time
Old LEGO Co-op was worse imo. The old games didn't have the split screen so you had to run together everywhere. In the new ones you can go left and do something while your friend can go right.
I feel like the answer to this question is 100% Personally preference, like I've never played the games you've listed as old, to me old games are 2013-2015, the games I've played are Marvel Superheroes 1, The Lego Movie game, and Jurassic world. (Also for the question at the end of the vid) my favorite is Lego Marvel Superheroes 1
The beat 'em up and platforming aspects just don't feel as good as they used to. I never accidentally fall off the edge in the new games. The new games seem focused on "flash" instead of "feel" .
new lego games are too big/massive for me. I like simplicity and old lego games are just like that. Anyway, the newer LEGO games that I like are Marvel SH and Avengers but they have a little bit too much content for me
I love some of the new LEGO games, and the old games too. And while I haven't played every single LEGO game, I have played a few, and the original LEGO Batman is still to this day, my favorite LEGO game of all time, and it will likely always be.

As a lego fan, for me there are no bad games, I mean if there are better than others, but I enjoy playing a lego marvel as well as a lego island, I mean it's lego, and I can create your own character in games like star wars, indiana jones, marvel, dc, jurassic etc etc, it's like being yourself in those games and being part of those universes, the truth is that for both eras they are good, with their ups and downs, but enjoyable, greetings and great video

The older Lego games had a much more “show don’t tell” type of approach to the story. Linear lvl design, and a far superior gameplay/health system. (Seriously why did they change the hearts in skywalker saga?) I also prefer the perspective in the older games as I can see the area I’m in much easier, it just feels right and makes co op a hell of a lot easier than it is now. I HATE the new combat system they adopted in force awakens and have been using ever since, if I wanted to play a strategic shooter and use cover I’d play gears of war or something. Like that’s not what I play a Lego game for lol
New Lego games are too automatic. Old ones, at least until TLOTR were more fun because they made sure that every action had its weight and mechanic. Every movement could be entertaining.
That's why (unpopular opinion) some games that were released for the 3DS and PS Vita were better than their counterparts for big consoles: due to the restrictions in technology, they were less automatic and more "classical". For example Batman 3, although others like The Avengers and even The Lord of the Rings were worse in handheld.
Older games just have that classic feel and such nostalgia, newer ones have insanely good graphics and extra activies like free roam open worlds and side quests, but man 100%ing the older games are a PAIN

I am from Mexico, and I prefer games with voice lines because those games are dubbed here (not always) and considering that video games almost never have dubbing in Latin American Spanish, except in some cases (in this case, Lego games) it is a detail that I like too much

Honestly I personally think the level design in the older games are way better. Especially when it comes to secret rooms or minikit requirements. Especially in Lego Star Wars complete saga

I feel like it's pretty weird to litterally give the old games better replayability because they have less content. That goes directly againgst what makes a game replayable. The less content there is, the more similar your experience will be every playthrough. I also feel like you only added Co-op to give the old games the edge at the end because the change is so miniscule that it wasn't worth having a category on.
But eh, it's all just for fun. Not that serious lol
I think I'm more of a new lego game person, but the choice is quite tough. New LEGO games have the excellent DC Supervillains, and other greats like Batman 2, LOTR, LMSH, and Hobbit. Older ones have such greats as the Harry Potter games, the clone wars, and, of course, Batman. Lego Batman 1 in particular impresses me like few other games, everything about it (except the vehicle missions) are just spot on. The game designers really get Batman in that game, they just got it right (I'm a comic geek in case you didn't guess it haha)
I love having a lot of characters to play with but with the newer games I do sort of get lost in the huge character menu so for the Skywalker Saga I hope they have a sorting system with like jedi, sith, clones,... or maybe multiple menus (one per movie). Or a favorites section would also be great.

Pretty difficult to say. My first thought was definitly the old ones. But then I was thinking about Lord of the Rings and how fun it was to 100% it. Really depends. I 100%ed Lego Star Wars and Indy 1 on regular basis back in the day. Just completed? Just starting a new file and again...
I really didn't re100% a newer game except Lego City Undercover. That one is just to brilliant. I did it once on Wii U and once on Switch.

I agree with the newer games drifting away from that original Lego game feeling. But maybe that’s good, because if we never moved on the variety within the games would’ve been bad. And since the new ones are evolving, we are able to go back and get that nostalgia every we start the old games.
But I totally agree with newer games not having the same vibe as the old. I mean in Skywalker saga there will be side quests, and so many different planets, each 30 times bigger than the old hub worlds.
The old ones are more driven by nostalgia, and the new ones are more advanced and well done.

in my opinion the character roster department should have gone to the older games since in my opinion, you should add how the character roster looks and how easy it is to navigate and not the quantity of the characters since you are comparing older technology to newer ones so the quantity will deffinetly rise. so yea in that regard i completely disagree but still a decent video
New Lego games are pretty cool with their huge worlds and stuff but the old games bring back so much nostalgia and they are amazing. (Lego Star Wars the complete saga, Lego Batman 1 & 2, Lego Indiana Jones and Lego Pirates of the Caribbean)

Personally prefer the mid-era games, that being Lego Batman 2 - Lego Marvel Avengers/Jurassic World (dunno which came last). Everything that came before is just commonly shrouded in nostalgia while evetything after was too far from the core and most have failed to fully satisfy. Of course, thats just my own opinion. Lego Lord of the Rings, Avengers, Superheroes, Batman 3 and Jurassic World are some of my all time favorite games. Obv Lego Movie id excluded from this generalization
Something I don't like about the more recent Lego Games is that they feel too much like your standard Third Person shooters (I am referring to Skywalker Saga and Force Awakens)
I love the older lego games mainly because of nostalgia I was in college when the older games came out (showing my age) LOL so brings back a lot of memories from that time but I love the new lego games as well. Lego incredibles is my least favorite though. Also love your videos they are great and your accent 😄 can't wait for new videos about lego star wars

LEGO Indiana Jones 2 & LEGO Batman are my favorite old LEGO games.
Both are absolutely fantastic. Old have more of a charm and funny aspect while having simple and compact games. New have more expanded universes, but can be much more complicated, which is weird for a Lego game. I think Dimensions is one of the best though, because it mixes real life Lego and the games, while holding the point of the company; creating worlds from all of your favorite creations.
Nice and all but your forgetting one more Lego game. Lego City Undercover. One of my favorites. You can actually explore the City. And you get to replay levels to get collectibles. Was available for Wii U only in 2013. And remastered in 2017 for Playstation Xbox and Nintendo Switch. You guys should try it.
both new and old lego games have their own unique kind of charm. personally i prefer the newer style of lego games, but the old ones are just so fun to mess around with as well, i feel like i can have fun with both types in different ways, and thats what makes lego games so great
Definitely the old, which is anything before Skywalker Saga, which changed the formula radically. Skywalker has plenty to like, but they really dumbed down the actual story levels, and put most of the collectibles and puzzle solvign in the open world. A lot of the othre "newer" ones have a ton of open world stuff to find, but they didn't dumb down the story levels. I also prefer the more distant and static camera angles to the new over the shoulder camera..

for me, both voice lines and mumbles are good equally. but, i gotta say, i find it hard to go back to exclusively mumbles. the mumbling def helps the atmosphere of the games hit. like in the first lego batman. but the voice lines are hilarious. And, voice lines make lego games feel like any other game. just made with legos. for me , thats a good thing lol. I've always wanted a full open world marvel or DC or especially star wars game. well, if lego didnt have voices, it would feel less like a really good open world star wars etc game. and more like a "lego" game. if that makes sense.
especially since those franchises dont really have good open world games, many, or any at all. The voice lines really helps the games stand up as not just lego games. but great open world games in general

The newer Lego games have superior mechanics, but their hub worlds have dearly been lacking.
The Skywalker Saga is going to overcome this problem, thankfully, but I hope a possible Infinity Saga game contains maps as large as Marvel 1 and Avengers. I hope you start out in an upgraded New York map, but are ever to fly over to London are Malibu, which are both warped next to each other, and then you can just fly into space, landing on Asgard. You can go from the Rainbow bridge all the way to the stronghold or forest people were hiding in. Other worlds like Ego and Vanaheim would also be an option.
Yeah I like it when you don’t have to fast travel to get anywhere in an open world it makes it more immersive.
Nah, for replayability is clearly a win win with the new ones, no way the old games are a clear winner. The open world makes it x100 replayable
A big con for the old Lego games is the fact there is so little to do my ps4 had to be repaired recently so I started replaying Lego batman 1 on my ps2 and beat the game in two days.
Where's Rock Raiders, Lego Island, and the like? All I'm seeing here are the movie tie-in and newer games.
They should just add a toggle mumble option in either settings or cheat codes so people can enjoy the games however they want!

I feel like for, the first point, old wins hands down.
Yeah, hearing voices is cool and they work the best with OG stories, but being able to pretty much cohesively tell the stories of these timeless films without a single word of spoken dialog is super fucking commendable.
I know what happens in the prequel movies because of the Lego levels more so than actually watching those movies!

I love the talking in games it makes the ip's seem more iconic because the characters say iconic lines but I like the mumbling because it gives me the vibes that there is a kid playing with lego and they are mumbling sounds the characters would make.

Old vs. New for me is open world hub vs. non open world. But I get using the mumble vs. voice lines too especially because that's what a lot of fans use when describing the older ones and they wanted it to return so much they added it in Skywalker Saga.
To me the biggest thing I miss from the older games were the levels had more to explore. In Complete Saga, Indy or the first Batman there's so many side rooms you can go into to get a minikit and they usually have a fun puzzle to solve while the newer games don't do that anymore. All the minikits are pretty much on the linear path. You may just not have the right character to get it. That would be my biggest wish personally: Having an open world hub world like current games and having bigger, less linear story levels because now I find myself liking the hub world more than the levels. I'd love to love them equally.

All time favourite? This is a little bit of nostalgia combined with my ever lasting love for the brand but Lego Marvel Superheroes (1) is easily my favourite being the first game for me to get 100% in.

They need to bring back the all out brawl when you hit someone in the hub world for the new Lego games as well all the unlock character walking around, imagine you hit someone with the Hulk and every super hero and villain brawling each other in the middle of the town.

Old LEGO Co-op was worse imo. The old games didn't have the split screen so you had to run together everywhere. In the new ones you can go left and do something while your friend can go right.
I feel like the answer to this question is 100% Personally preference, like I've never played the games you've listed as old, to me old games are 2013-2015, the games I've played are Marvel Superheroes 1, The Lego Movie game, and Jurassic world.

The beat 'em up and platforming aspects just don't feel as good as they used to. I never accidentally fall off the edge in the new games. The new games seem focused on "flash" instead of "feel" .
new lego games are too big/massive for me. I like simplicity and old lego games are just like that. Anyway, the newer LEGO games that I like are Marvel SH and Avengers but they have a little bit too much content for me
I love some of the new LEGO games, and the old games too. And while I haven't played every single LEGO game, I have played a few, and the original LEGO Batman is still to this day, my favorite LEGO game of all time, and it will likely always be.

As a lego fan, for me there are no bad games, I mean if there are better than others, but I enjoy playing a lego marvel as well as a lego island, I mean it's lego, and I can create your own character in games like star wars, indiana jones, marvel, dc, jurassic etc etc, it's like being yourself in those games and being part of those universes, the truth is that for both eras they are good, with their ups and downs, but enjoyable, greetings and great video
