    Oh praise the Lord! Thank you, I'm back and have 15 rows. I waxed with a candle and that credit card apparatus is so incredibly helpful. The majority of my needles are flipped closed at the end of every row, but the smooth pointy ends make quick work of it. Ripping is such a helpful thing to know as well. I'm so glad that I found your class ♥

    You are most welcome and I'm glad they have helped you. The table I used in the videos was built especially for me for teaching standing up in front of a group. That way everyone could see what I was doing. I got rid of it when I downsized some years ago and was no longer teaching. The man who made it never worked from plans. He simply built it and I loved using it. Sorry it's not available.

    I have become something of an "oldie but goodie," it appears. If you go to the website how to knit a sweater (all run together and add the dot you-know-what. I can't post a link in these comments), then click on "Articles," there's a simple hats on the BOND pattern you can access. And thanks for commenting. Starting this week I'm adding new videos to my channel. I guess a 20-year vacation is long enough. ;)

    Thank you for your kind words Angela. The different size keyplates are for different sized yarns. Smaller numbers are for thinner yarns. Without watching you in action I can't diagnose your problem but commonly . . . don't over-tighten the clamps that hold it to the table; make sure the table and machine are flat; use wax and/or silicone spray for plastic to lubricate the keyplates and needles. Join the Ultimate Sweater Machine Group on Facebook for great input from many helpful people.

    I watched these videos on VHS when my mom bought me an Incredible Sweater Machine YEARS ago. Back then I followed your instructions to make a child's size sweater; but he is now almost 18. But I got my machine out again because I need to make a few hats. I hand knitted one and my 7 year old now has friends begging for one also. I needed a refresher course. LOL

I was very happy to find her newer hand knitting videos, as I've been an avid hand knitter for almost 15 years. I could not agree more! There is much you should pass on. Would love to watch you walk us through making a beautiul sweater for adults; including how to guage for size. I will always remember that beautiul yellow sweater with the black lines thru it that you wore when making the Bond-Fair Isle video. You spoke about several sweaters you had made, but the :"how to" is still needed. Kind of like Cynthia when she does the step-by-step. You are such an encouragement to machine knitters.

    I love these Bond videos, thanks so much Cheryl!
    Considering the Bond is a "beginners" machine, I would not give it to a beginner, there are too many little things to look out for that would put them off, like checking for open latches, taking slack up propperly, loose yarn etc.
    I had been machine knitting for 3 years when I got my Bond and it took me a little time to adjust to it as it is a bit different to other machines.
    You seam to teach knitting in a really fun way, I like your work!

    Dying is chemistry. Different molecules of different sizes combine with the fibers to create color. My experience is with natural fibers so I'm not sure about how synthetics react to the dying process or how it's done. I've dyed only animal fibers.
    Another thing . . . color affects "hand" or feel of the fiber. I recently handled some luxurious angora goat yarn from a small producer. The natural color was soft and lofty as could be. The "dusty rose" was silky but not nearly as soft or light.

  • @CherylBrunetteTV

    The cast-on process, if it works properly, will pull the yarn to behind the "fabric guide" which is what that wire is called. As long as you're able to cast on without dropping stitches, you should be able to go forward easily.

    OK, now I know what the deal is. I've done a double e-wrap CO, left to right. There is no loose end, to fall behind the fabric guide. THIS is what I was trying to describe. Yes, if you are doing an open CO, then the yarn will fill into place, but not, if you do an e-wrap, crocheted, etc. Anyway, forging on, making a baby pull-over.

    @bikrgran 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    OK, I've just cast on, left to right. COR. My ISM has a wire on the front of the carriage that "presses" the fabric, as you knit. My instructions say to have the yarn behind this wire, between the bed and the wire, then up through the threading holes in the carriage. Unless I thread the yarn under this wire BEFORE I CO, then it is in FRONT of the wire, and can't be put behind (as far as I can tell) w/o taking the wire loose from the carriage & slipping the yarn behind.

    Great videos! I bought one of these, several years ago, and the loose needles drove me NUTS! I ended up giving it away. However, a freebie came up this weekend, and I've brought it home, just to play with. It's still frustrating, but I managed to get a tam made yesterday. One thing that came up is, there were times (can't remember when, at this moment) that I needed to drop the yarn behind the presser & had to take it off, to get it in there. Is there an easier way?

    Cheryl, I am so thrilled that I found the videos for the Bond machine. In 1986 I bought a BOND Junior in Germany. Somehow the instruction book for it got lost in my move to America and therefor I have not used the BOND at all. I have a large knitting project now and instead of knitting the old fashioned way I want to get used to the machine, but: # 1: I don't know what the numbers 1-4 mean on the clear key plates, # 2: you were talking about some kind of waxing, # 3: do you know where I still can buy an instruction book? Any help would be so much appreciated!! Thank you in advance :)

      Ella Wegener Ella . . . I'm sorry it took me so long to find this. Here are some rough equivalents to metric needle sizes: KP 1= 3.5 to 4 mm; KP 2 = 4-4.5 mm; KP 3 = 5-5.5 mm; KP 4= 6-6.5 mm. I don't know where you can buy an instruction book but you might contact BOND America online and see what they say. As for wax . . . yes. :)

    • @CherylBrunetteTV
      @CherylBrunetteTV  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +nelly 8 I suggest you join the Facebook USM book. That's the best resource I know for new users. I don't know if you have a newer version of the machine which aren't as reliable or well-built, but still, many people love them. If you have this old blue one, what's on this video is my best advice. There is a learning curve, but if you persist . . . you'll probably get it. You might be missing little things . . . and as for the wool tangling, that might not be the fault of the machine.
      I would say, when you get frustrated, walk away and come back to it later. And that FaceBook group is worth its weight in gold.

    • @CherylBrunetteTV
      @CherylBrunetteTV  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Any number of a dozen things. The table isn't level, the clamps are too tight, you need lubrication, you have too much weight, too little weight. You're pressing down too hard, not hard enough. It is a steep learning curve at first and you have to pay attention to lots of details. If you belong to Facebook, join the USM group. There are also some groups on Ravelry. I use only the old blue bed and an old, unusual carriage so I'm not good at diagnosing problems with the newer machines because they went through several iterations of carriages. There's also a Yahoo group that's very helpful.

      It can be very frustrating in the beginning Nicole. Walk away from it and come back to it when it's too much. You know how you have to jiggle keys in just the right way to get some locks to open? It's a little like that. You will find the exact right pressure and speed and side to press more on that will make it work. The best resource I know of right now is the USM Facebook group. Lots of experience there. I don't have one. Someone else might but it's a question of using the latch hook tool to convert knits to purls. Alternatively, there is a tool called a garter bar for that process though frankly, it's a little tedious to do garter on single bed machines.
