And a good tip..drill some small holes in the metal cuffs that hold the paint hairs. that way the mineral spirits you use when cleaning it will penetrate deeper into the area where they are compressed and thus extending the lifespan for your paintbrush. Works for me :)
If you are new to this then Acrylic is the best way to go for flat finishes. Use floor polish ('Future' is a good brand in the US) applied on top of acrylic to gloss up the finish. For a newbie, I'd say using a brush is the safest method, as shown in this video.
It's hard to say, if you are starting from scratch we would recommend Humbrol Acrylic, it's fast drying, easy to use and you can clean your brushes with water.
Apply a couple of coats of Humbrol Clear over your entire model, then apply your decals using Humbrol Decalfix. Once dry and settled down you can then spray our Acrylic Matt varnish over your model. We would advise to test this first before applying to your model. Hope this helps.
If you are in India and Humbrol Liquid Poly is hard to get, then just use a small bottle of Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK). Jewelry and Shoe manufacturers will know where to get this. It is used to dissolve polystyrene parts which all Airfix/Revell/Hasegawa/Tamiya plastic models are made of. Use a tiny brush to apply minimal amounts to the edges to soften them and then assemble.
just apply the first coat of paint straight from the bottle, it will have brush strokes obviously but it will stick to the plastic and help anchor the subsequent diluted coats
Great range of brushes there but the only thing I disliked about the video was the puddle of paint and thinner that was poured directly onto the workdesk. I usually decant some paint and thinners into a brand new and clean foil cake/tart case or an old egg cup as then I can use the workdesk for other tasks. The way the paint is decanted and mixed onto the workdesk in this video doesn't look professional and to be truthful, it encourages sloppiness :(. I am not trolling here but I am just giving you some constructive feedback for future videos. Apart from that, this is a very informative and helpful video. Best Regards Ash.
looked to me like it was on a clear sheet on top of the desk. If you look at 0:54, you can see the whole blob of paint move as he slides the sheet slightly
Ive got the humbrol decalfix and clear gloss varnish. If i clear varnish my model which is ENAMEL painted and have placed my decals. Should i use a arcrylic matt varnish spray or an ENAMEL matt spry as i have painted my model with ENAMEL paints abd preferably which is better between the two?
Very well done & instructive these videos; thanks for uploading. Keep up the good work at Airfix/Humbrol - some truly excellent models & products out there recently (& nice CI by the way too). Got some gems stashed away, waiting to be built :-)
Will the acrylic primer you used on the model plane work on a toy? I'm trying to paint a old toy that is in need of a paint job. Also is it best to dilute water with the acrylic paint before you start painting with it? And how do you avoid brush marks?
Hi there Hornby international own and make Humbrol products Try contacting them they still operate in Oz and were available in NZ I find there products good if used properly.
I just cannot get my painting to look anywhere near as good. Alwaus watery and with paint holding up around detailing and brush marks. What am I doing wrong please?
thejudge 1897 What you're ment to do is water down the acrylic paint to prevent brush marks and then painting always paint in a fast, repetitive line to prevent paint build up and brush marks
I came hear to brush up my knowledge
Da dun chssh
Here*
is this a joke?
Boom boom!
Stop modeling

Gee, now seems plastic modelling has turned into a science !
Thanks! I REALLY needed this! :)
Thanks video I just finished my f 15 eagle it’s looking good
We would advise to dry fit the parts.
Sir can I really get the result just like it with flat brush !!? Didn't know wanted to spend money on airbrush!!
Acrylic and enamel suitable i guess mean mixed brush hairs, i.e. nylon and pony?
Can you paint the model using acrylics without primer
You can, but you'll need to do several coats so the finished result looks good.
*****
Thanks!
Chin Chin The Dark Lord yeah is you wash the kit in warm soapy water with a little vinegar!
And if the paint doesn’t stick at all you can use high grit sandpaper
just apply the first coat of paint straight from the bottle, it will have brush strokes obviously but it will stick to the plastic and help anchor the subsequent diluted coats
We use Humbrol Liquid Poly, it's a thin Poly Cement that is dry’s quickly.
these look great i will have to get these brushes
Great video I love them :)
have you tried diluting the paint a little bit?
Is it possible to apply a primer with a brush as well?
You can yes, you just have to be careful not to make bubbles when doing so
They are a synthetic hair suitable for both Enamel and Acrylic paint.

Does it works with Tamiya acrylic paint?

Kenny Lopes to avoid brush strokes, use water in you paint. You should also do more than one layer if you do.
Is there any official humbrol shop in Greece i cant find your products easily
Plastimodelissimo in Athens at Ippokratous
thanks for the info
how to clean the paintbrush after using it with acrylic paints? does it require thinner?
With acrylics you can just use water i think.
you can clean with water while the paint is wet but if it dries you need a strong brush cleaner like 'Brush Magic'
Is thining needed
What colour paints where used
Do you know If I can order in nz?

To paint with enamel humbrol using brush, how i can dilute?
you can use humbrol enamel thinners
What model is that
A4 Douglas skyhawk
what thinning ratio did he use?
Matthew Snell most likely 70% paint and 30% water
why do you need to dilute paints?
+mining maniac Probably so that it'll flow and level itself better.
to save some money
*definately not trolling*
It would be really hard to
I usually just buy mine at walmart..in the crafts section
Is thinking needed
yes, thinking is needed on a daily basis
Man I cant paint shit 😂😅
