I’ve gone back to 99% hand brushing lately and it’s been a fun ride. Much like when I was a kid and the hobby was nothing but joy. My Airbrush sits quiet for ages before I even remember it’s there. 😂
A good way to keep the paint from bleeding under the masking tape is shooting a thin layer of clear varnish before the colour. Works wonderfully for me!
Been using mostly Revell Aqua Range lately and I love their products. Would be great to see you review these Aqua paints.
Great video, lovely little Mustang (actually it’s the very next in my build line!).
Cheers!
i forgot how easy thinned paint bleeds under masking when doing brush painting and thats a great tip to help stop it
i use aqua range paints and find them very good and would have used one of them but i didnt have the colours needed
most of my aqua range paints are modern greys for mordern jet fighters
thanks for the comments
I've never used Tamiya paints. My go to are Humbrol and Vallejo. I have a real liking for Vallejo they go on so smooth. I prefer brush painting, always prime before painting. I like Vallejo primer or Humbrol spray primer. I use my wet pallete a lot which I find works for me. If I use thinners I've found humbrol or AK to be good.
Great tips! 👍 I always soak my parts in warm soapy water for a few minutes, then rinse them well and dry them. I find the plastic takes both the glue and primer better...
it used to be something i did for every kit but have stopped doing it so much anymore
i do find airfix can sometimes have a good bit of the release oil on them from production
@@yorkshiremanmodels ICM, too. I just find the plastic 'feels' better when I do that. And, of course, Tamiya's always perfect 😉😁
cracking job with the old hairy sticks Yorkie !!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
cheers pal glad you liked it
back to airbrush for the next video though
Beautiful paint job.
Thanks it’s been a real help most of my kits are still in boxes , I like airbrushing but nicer to use a brush 😎👌☕️
Glad to help
wasnt the red tail the insignia of the tuskagee airmen
Yes it is
yes i believe it was
makes a cracking looking aircraft with the colour scheme
Hey- thanks for this video. I loved building models as a kid, but they looked like they were made by a kid. I just got back into it and realize that my skill-set is no better than when I was 10. 😂 I particularly need an education where it comes to painting. This really helped! Greetings from “New York-shire”
Glad I could help!
Absolutely amazing work. Great tutorial and a very good example of the technique!
Thanks a lot!
nice video ty mate
Glad you enjoyed it
Really good work-I liked and subscribed. My modeling has lately been planes and submarines :) Love the Mustang.
Thanks for the sub!
i still make all models but mostly feature aircraft on my channel
What a cracking video.....I've been tempted to have a go at brush painting, so your tips have given me inspiration to do so. I was really worried about the metal effects, but you have shown it's possible to get a great result. Many thanks....videos like this are what the hobby is about
your welcome and its good to see its helped someone
i forget how easy and quick brush painting can be compared to all the cleaning and preparing you have to do with a airbrush
Great job, and a I enjoy the old painting by hand, learnt some tips from you in this upload, will try out your techniques, many thanks for taking the time to share this with us, always nice to pick up tips from others. Will catch up with your other uploads too!
Thank you! Cheers!
Cool model. 🛩
I think so too!
Fantastic video, very helpful. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video l have a 1/48 Mustang to do and l only brush paint all mine so the silver tip is useful
i used to hate silver until i started using valleyo metal colours
Thanks for sharing. Very informative.
My pleasure!
Great job 👍👌👏
I don't own an airbrush. Always brush paint with humbrol or AK acrylics using Tamiya x20 thinner. It must be very thinned and applied in several quick coats and don't over paint until it's fully dry. I never use a primer either but find humbrol 80 to be great undercoat. Then when finished buff with a cotton wool pad before applying decals. If buffed you shouldn't get silvering. Agree about that silver, it's superb.
always struggled with ak acrylics with airbrushing compared to hand painting
i now tend to sand with the despiae small sanding sponges becuase the 2500 grit version is great and the sponge cleans easily with ipa
I’m really enjoying your videos, having started model making again after many years. I have picked up many tips , thank you. I hand painted my first kit, and quite pleased with the results. However, I think that going forward, airbrushing is the way and I would like to ask whether you use a small electric compressor or a can system? Can you also please recommend a decent system to start with? Many thanks, Adrian
i use 2 styles of airbrushes
a cordless battery type and the air compressor
the cordless battery airbrush is a fantastic starter one for anyone trying airbrushing for the first time
It turned out awesome!
thanks
Really good video a lot of usefull information especially for beginners! I'd love to see how you tackle some Luftwaffe camouflage with brush painting if you are up to the challenge!
some of the lugtwaffe had great camo schemes and will make a note to try one in brush painting
thanks for the idea
Very nice job indeed. Lovely. I made tbe raf version and now want to do this one 😊
the raf version looks very nice and makes a nice change than the usual american colour schemes and decals
When brush painting, i only use enamels.
true enamels are getting harder to find now i think and can be very smelly when using them
i also think the newer true acrylics are very good paints but nothing like enamels for hard wearing
Me to up to last year then tried the humbrol acrylics and not used enamels since. Once you have mastered the acrylic method you wont regret it.
Nice paintjob, i learned a lot.
What kind of material is in the landing gear space to mask it? Frame 12.41
i normally use blur tak or similar to fill in areas for masking
its reusable and is cheap to buy
do you thin all your paints my freind .
A few times I could not understand the product you are recommending because of your accent. Tamiya "white or wide" glue? Do you mean medium glue? Another time, you said Winsor & Newton flat varnish. What varnish is that? Acrylic varnish? Oil varnish? WN has many types. Please be specific, thanks. I enjoyed your video and learned a lot.
its tamiya white lid glue and its thicker than the extra thin
and its windsor newton flat acrylic varnish available from the range stores in uk and hobbycraft
soap breaks the surface tension lets it sit better
cheers pal couldnt remember the word for why it works
@@yorkshiremanmodels us yorkshire lads got to look after our own lol
what green was the fuselage
i cant remember and it would most likely have been the recomended colour or one that was close to it
I've given up my airbrush because all of my model building is now done on the road. I may consider getting a battery powered airbrush.
i have a video where i review and use a portable airbrush
in my view i think they are a great idea
IAM GETTING CONFUSED PAL YOU KEEP BRINGING OUT DIFFERNT STUFF HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK OUTLAY WILL BE TO START THE HOBBY
honestly to start in this hobby you need basic knife, snipers, sander, brushes, glue and paint
with that you can build any model you want
every thing else is to either make model making easier or to make your models look better
i still sometimes build a quick model and brush paint it because its fun and easy
@@yorkshiremanmodels THANKS PAL ITS HAND BRUSHING AT MOMENT FOR ME .
I find Tamiya paints are awful for brush painting....even when thinned i never had a good result
Yes I’d agree cracking paints but brush painting defo a no no for me
got to agree as well pal
only time i brush paint tamiya is when i add retarder to it or the paint will dry faster than you can get it onto the model
@@yorkshiremanmodels they are fine for airbrushing but not for brush painting
You can brush paint with Tamiya acrylics you’ll just need to thin em more than usual and over a layer of primer. I only hand paint tamiya paint for tool handles and small details.
Vallejo reads Vajeho.
probably does but i am useless pronouncing words in other languages so you tend to end up with me saying how it looks in english
then again my yorkshire accent may give it a different sound as well
