Angie Hot & Flashy did a ph test on many vitamin C products. Skin Ceutical is the original but it oxidizes immediately which lessens the efficacy & is ridiculously $$$, the ingredients aren’t expensive. Her ph test proves that one is NOT the best. Timeless tested great, is much better price, and mine gets used up before it oxidizes. Great video, love your knowledge.
I LOVE Angie’s videos on vitamin C! Some of her best!! She’s literally one of my favorite people, and her stamp of approval on timeless means a lot! 🧡🧡🧡
I have somewhat sensitive skin and can use Timeless 20% daily without any irritation at all. It’s in an enclosed pump bottle and you don’t have to expose it to the air. Very reasonable and it feels great. SC feels yucky and it too expensive to boot!
I DIYed my own Vitamin C using the lotion crafter recipe for CE Ferulic. Saved so much money that way and I don’t feel bad about wasting it at all now or using more on my hands, etc. all the supplies I had to get including a pH meter, scale, flasks, glass containers, and ingredients cost the same as one SC bottle and is enough to make around 40 bottles.
Hello, IF I replace photozyme DNA repair I use with the C E photozyme would that provide better results than just the standard photozyme DNA repair? Or best to use both?
I was using Timless 20% - no irritation but i did find that even in the 1 oz bottles, & using it every day, it was oxidizing way too fast… and I wasn’t sure the results were there that I was expecting anymore.. During the black friday sales, I picked up the Dear Lucy product with THD in it- it was one of the recs you had mentioned in a video.. I love that SO much! What a beautiful light creamy product that melts right into the skin. I already picked up another bottle because I wanted a back up. It’s made in Canada and I’m concerned about how much the tariffs are going to affect things like that in the near future. TY so much!
@ I got it on sale- Penny has a code for it, too. It was around $75/80 that I paid for mine. Still a lot- but I wanted to try it and see if it made a difference. I see Photozyme’s Vitmain C is $115😲
Hello Penny! having rosacea, it's always hard to try new products, especially vitamin C and sunscreen! thank you for sharing this information with the rest of us! I wish you a very happy rest of the holidays!!! Best wishes from Greece! 🤩🤩🤩
Thank you so much for this much-needed clarification on vitamin C. I share a lot of of the concerns mentioned in your video. More than that, though, you look stunning! I love your hair and it’s making me want to go darker now, too🫶🏼
I normally put my vitamin c serum in the fridge (specific for my skincare products) to delay its oxidation process once opened...and I think it works...
Hi Penn, back in the day I thought SC 168.00 was the only one & I paid that much! Not anymore, like you said “ there are just as good $30.00👍can’t wait to see what you bring us in 2025 Happy New Year🌺💃💜
This cleared up so many of my questions and concerns! And even things I had not thought about. This is why I don’t miss any of the @Penn Smith videos!!!
I use the Prequel from a recommendation from you earlier this year. Love it and Prequel. Also REALLY love the way Maelove makes my skin look but I find it less convenient because you have to order it through their website.
Awesome info, Penny! I love the Vichy Liftactiv Brightening Vitamin C which is a pure ascorbic acid at 16%. I have oily and pretty resilient skin so it works well. Prequel is also amazing. If anyone is looking for a sodium ascorbyl phosphate version, Bubble's DayDream with Vitamin C and Niacinamide is a nice, very affordable option. ❤❤
Thanks a lot dear Penny for this recap and update on vitamin C! Wish you a great 2025 and thanks for all your great vids past year! Kissie from Holland 🎉
I’ve used Vit C for decades and have never noticed any difference but continue to use. Have used Timeless 20% for the past 4 or so years. For Black Friday decided to try Platinum Skin Care’s High Octane Vit C. I don’t see any difference with any of them 🤷🏻♀️ but would love to see a review of the PSC’s Vit C since it is pricey. TIA
I’ve watched a ton of Vit C videos over the years and this one is a standout - it’s short & sweet, and very informative. I’ve personally been loving the Beauty of Joseon Light on Vit C - it’s got 3-0 Ethyl Ascorbic Acid.
I love the photozyme vitamin C. The texture is amazing. It's like a very light lotion, never stings, soaks in beautifully. I did not like Skinceuticals because it was greasy and heavy.
Hola! Gracias ☺️
Hello beautiful Penny! I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday! Love a good Vitamin C serum. Thank you for sharing and have a lovely weekend! 🥰
I used the ordinary vit c for a long time with good results and no issues. Then I started retinol, tried to add vit c back in about 2 months in on the days I wasn’t going to be using retinol. When I say it burned, I mean on fire red and left what looked like chemical burn lol. I washed it off immediately so it was short lived and the little burns were gone in a couple of days. Never ever had that happen before so I’m sure it’s from the retinol changing (hopefully in a good way) my skin. I’ve since switched to truth serum with no problems but I don’t think it’s nearly as strong as the one from the ordinary. Anyone else have this experience and have a timeline of when or if I can ever add the ordinary C back in?
I tried the Photozyme C + E after you recommended it in another video and unfortunately had a horrible allergic reaction to it! I do NOT have sensitive skin and I’ve used other C + E serums over the years without any issues, so I really wish I knew what specific ingredient caused the reaction so I can avoid it in the future. By the way, I am using the Photozyme DNA repair serum with no problem, so I know it has to be an ingredient they don’t share. Anyway, I continue to follow you and learn so much about taking good care of my skin, so thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!
Great to have so many choices. I only use glass bottles that can be recycled. Some containers will stay around forever. Thanks as usual, Penny!! ❤ Happy New Year 🎉
Great video! My dry, sensitive skin cannot tolerate L-Ascorbic acid serums. It took a long time to find suitable alternative, but I love these two THD options from Paula’s Choice : the « RESIST Anti-Aging Antioxidant Serum » and the « 25% Vitamin C + Glutathione Clinical Serum ». I alternate between the two. And my skin is happy!
Perfect timing, Penn. I have been a diehard Truth Treatment Cbalm THD as I can’t use l-ascorbic. I usually buy from Leah (who is great) but went with a sale TTS was having and I gotta say, the cbalm I received had a very strong off putting chemical smell. I reached out to them and did not receive an answer… very disappointing … bc I truly LOVE that balm. I’m going to try your recommendation❤. Also - I’ve used the Vanicream and you’re 100% correct - a no nonsense easy peasy affordable alternative! You look stunning (just so you know, lol!)
I use U BEAUTY Resurfacing Compound for my Vitamin C, and sometimes Truth Treatments Transdermal C Balm with their biomimetic mineral mist (Fulvic & Colloidal Mineral Solution) for better absorption. The U BEAUTY also has superoxide dismutase which is also a great antioxidant!
I'm sensitive to vitamin C so thought I'd like to try the Vanicream one. I enjoy their other products and have had zero problems. I went to order and looked at the reviews. So many with SEVERE reactions that I can't risk it!
This was me, I was consistent with Vit C in AM and retinol in PM for years. As I experimented with other skin care, and wasted money on Vit C that oxidized, I stopped using it for the last year or so. I saw a pic of myself in my photo memories from 2 years ago and saw my skin looks less bright and plump, whereas my skin used to look very consistent and has now gradually declined. Time to get back to tried and true staples and make the Vit C work for me again!
Thanks Penn love your videos…seventy four next month using vitamin C for years and my Tret at night for over fifteen years or so,,,my face is amazing, love it get so many compliments and use it o my neck…took awhile but slow and steady does the race
Thank you for doing this video. I was informed that I should only use a Cooper Peptide at night if I’m using a Vitamin C. I also am having massive Hormonal Acne issues and it’s freaking me out. I had to go back to very basics with my skin care.
Great video! I stop using vitamin c about a year ago due to really bad reactions. The Vanicream doesn't have good reviews. You mentioned to someone about the skyn Iceland in the comments. Have you ever tried it and could it be a good one for someone that has really bad sensitive skin
Thank you, this video was so helpful. I have several Photozyme products so I will be trying that vitamin C. I come to rely on you for my skincare advice.
I heard from Ryan Smith that TB-500 is currently being used for medical microneedling with good results. Have you heard about this? What's your take on it? I'd love to see a video on the topic.
Good Video. I use the Geek & Gorgeous C Glow and the bottle says to put in the fridge for longevity. But now I'm reading that that temperature may be too cold and that may effect the efficacy....Do you have an opinion on this?
Vit C could possibly be the earliest real skin item I added to my repertoire (like in my 20's). So happy that there are lots of good ones and better price points. I like it so much that I use several versions/derivatives, F N and Dec and even now hands and arms. The new Photozyme is on its way! I used to use it first, but now it's after my pigment inhibitor. When in your regimen, do you use it Penn? Hugs, HNY and congrats on continued success. Your natural color and shine is so flattering, but you'd look great in a mop! ha ha
Super helpful, thank you. I have been using Photozyme DNA recovery. The Vitamin C states it has DNA Recovery in it. Can I stop the DNA and be comfortable that I’m getting those benefits in the C or should I use both?
You can use their C in the AM and skip youth recovery (in my opinion). I definitely recommend the lotion vitamin CEF from photozyme over the LAA serum. I’d still use youth recovery at night though if you can 🧡
Hi penn Ty for another amazing video ❤️ if I use in my a.m. routine vitamin C can I skip my fade bright since you said vitamin C can act as pigment inhibitor?
That depends on how aggressive your hyperpigmentation is and the amount of sun exposure you expect to have. In the middle of winter I can get away with just C in the morning- but in the spring and summer I need a dedicated pigment inhibitor as well 🧡
Thank you for this focused presentation, penny! Are you familiar with Alastin’s antioxidant that uses sodium ascorbate? I use it and really like it but am unclear on the efficacy of this and how it is different from l-ascorbic and THD. Any thoughts? Thanks.
Vitamin C is one of those actives I use because you’re “supposed” to. I’ve not really seen a significant brightening or fading effect on my skin. In fact, I think it triggers a flare up of an area of chronic seborrheic dermatitis that I have.
While it’s not the only Vit C product I use, I love using the Young Goose Bio C Peptide Spray as a mist, or to help boost my other serums. It is made with MAP (Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate) and is around $66
I love Allies of Skin's 35% Vit C! Also Penn, can you please do a review of Dr Rajani's new LED eye corrector? I just ordered one, along with his LED gua sha because I love his innovative products
I just got the new LED eye corrector from Dr Rajani (and his Gua sha). I haven’t even opened the box yet- I’ll definitely do a review 🧡 I love his innovation too 😊
@@saskia.... my dark spots have actually started to fade, but I use it with Allies' Tranexamic serum so I don't know if it's solely due to their Vit C. He did say that you should spray a hydrating mist first, or use it on damp skin to make it easier to apply because it's waterless so it doesn't degrade like most other Vit C serums. I also use their retnol so maybe altogether they're working to improve my skin.
Hello Penn! Have you tried Cosmedica Skincare, Vitamin C Facial Day Cream? It has 15% SAP. The only vitamin C I tried was Skinceuticals years ago and it was very irratating for me so all these years I excluded Vitamin C because of that bad experience. Now I've turned 40 and wanted to try again. And the serum from Truskin also with SAP? Thank you
57 yo and have used Timeless 20% for years, but it has only kept it bay rather than fading my hyperpigmentation. I also use a day moisturizer with niacinamide and tinted sunscreen. Tret at night. Could u recommend another approach to help fade?
You're going to have to use a product with more tyrosinase inhibitors like kojic acid, tranexamic acid, arbutin, licorice root, etc. You could also check out Eucerin's Anti-Pigment line of products with the patented thiamidol ingredient. Their dual serum is very effective for many people but it has a strong fragrance so be wary if you're sensitive to such.
I love my photozyme sunscreen and DNA repair serum, however, I noticed this vitamin C has barley extract in it. Would this still be safe for someone with a gluten sensitivity/intolerance to use?
Yes, the vitamin C does cover it but I like to do my LED in the morning and I love the youth recovery before LED. If I wanted to skip youth recovery and LED I could use just the C and be covered! 🧡
I LOVE justa kind of steven's Poems From The lab future focus Vtamin C that you had mentioned previously. It is very Moisturizing as well i have had mine for OPEN OVER 3 MONTHS and not a smidge of oxidation/color change. I also watched one of his IG posts about the lab he used to test his product ad the why behind it. That was veery interesting. Although his product is a bit on the pricy side i will definitely purchase again , its just such a beautiful formula. Happy new years to you, Penny and everyone else! Love from Saskatchewan, Canada ❤
Do you feel you get enough DNA repair from the photozyme vitamin C? I’m currently using the youth recovery serum, but would love to streamline routine a little more.
Along with the Bubble vit c that another commenter already mentioned, Versed also has SAP products. There are also ascorbic acid products stabilized with gold like Educated Mess and Naturium. And products that combine several derivatives like DRMTLGY's C5. Happy New Year everyone.
Love you Penny and want to come to visit just to see you😍. Remember the Platinum Fade bright? I got that after you discussed it.Used most of that....waiting for when you would do that follow up.
I almost forgot. I have been using the .01 estrogen cream lately as per my doctors say it’s good for our wrinkles. What are your thoughts on that and where would I fit that into that skin care routine pretty please
Hi Penn, I was wondering. I use Azelaic Acid each morning on my skin and in the evening I use Metronidazole. If I was to add Vitamin C when would that be best and should it be used with either of those. I have mild rosacea and when I had an out break a few years back my dermatologist put me in both
Hi Penn, thank you for this video. I have dry sensitive skin. Have never used Vitamin C -would like to try. My question is about SPF. I don’t wear it as often as I should- my bad. Is it safe to use Vitamin C without SPF? Is there a stronger chance of sun damage by wearing it alone? Also, I did purchase the Photozyme DNA Youth Recovery. Should I apply that first after cleansing? Or the Vitamin C first? My New Year’s resolution is to get serious about my skincare 😉
I'm one of the combo/oily types that can't use anything too oily. I'd love to know your thoughts on Ascorbyl Glucoside 12% that's in The Ordinary brand. I've been using that at night and have been liking it. Also for your acid toner, would hypochlorous acid work? I spray that on after cleansing and let it air dry... it's great for textured skin!!!
Hi Penn. Does timeless vit c 20% layer well with photozyme dna repair? I watched that video you made with the authority figure on dna repair (I forgot his name) and he mentioned that 20% L-Ascorbic acid might be too strong to layer with the photozyme dna repair
Excellent explanation. Think the photozyme sounds best. I have started using C60 as I heard it is one of the most powerful antioxidants. Was wondering what your thoughts are on this ingredient. Thanks.
Angie Hot & Flashy did a ph test on many vitamin C products. Skin Ceutical is the original but it oxidizes immediately which lessens the efficacy & is ridiculously $$$, the ingredients aren’t expensive. Her ph test proves that one is NOT the best. I have somewhat sensitive skin and can use Timeless 20% daily without any irritation at all. It’s in an enclosed pump bottle and you don’t have to expose it to the air. Very reasonable and it feels great. SC feels yucky and it too expensive to boot!
Agree!
I have always used the Timeless 20% and I keep it in the refrigerator I have not had any issues with it oxidizing
Same.
Geek and gorgeous C Glow is the only vitamin c that has benefited my skin. I love it.
it’s great and affordable, I use it too
Same! It's my favorite Vit C to date. Even like it better than SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic
@ their products are wonderful. I also use the make up removing balm and the retinal 1% …. love them all !
That is a fantastic color on you, Penny and the sweater matches the lip color! ❤
Thank you so much!!
I ordered that sweater and my eyes have never been greener! Thanks to Penn!!!
I agree with you Penn with regard to the many affordable and effective vitamin C brands currently available. Thank you again 😊for your service!
So do I !
I don’t think I’ve ever gone a day without my Vitamin C, my skin loves it! 🤗🥰
I have been keeping my vitamin c and copper peptide separate…now I know, I can use them in same routine. Awesomesauce!
If you don't mind me asking. What copper peptide do you use?
Hello, IF I replace photozyme DNA repair I use with the C E photozyme would that provide better results than just the standard photozyme DNA repair? Or best to use both?

Does it make a difference in fading pigment ??
@ I’m not sure yet because I had been using Fade Bright so really don’t have much pigment if at all. But my skin Judy looks and feels amazing from it.
@@Loralarify hmm thank you . Looked up the price for the Dear Lucy and it starts at $100!! 🤯

Thanks.
My skin LOVES vitamin C thankfully. 🧡
What about TRUTH TREATMENTS? Isn’t it a great alternative and like 100% actives no fillers?
I use this vit c, love it!
This is THD version. It's a really nice product but hella pricey! $315.79CAD for 1 ounce. Even more expensive than the Skincuticals CEF by like $100.
Vitamin C is one of those actives I use because you’re “supposed” to. I’ve not really seen a significant brightening or fading effect on my skin. In fact, I think it triggers a flare up of an area of chronic seborrheic dermatitis that I have.
I definitely think we should always listen to our skin- and it sounds like your skin just doesn’t like vitamin C! 🧡
You're amazing ❤ I've been using a great vit c but my skin doesn't love how oily the serum is. I'm keen to give the SAP a go.
Bonjour Penn,
Could you please share the lip products you are using today, it is gorgeous.
What do you think of Dr. Pen’s Pro Facial skin tightening wand? Gimmick or no? Thank you!
I appreciate your research and explanation!
What percentage does the L ascorbic acid need to be for it to be beneficial?
While it’s not the only Vit C product I use, I love using the Young Goose Bio C Peptide Spray as a mist, or to help boost my other serums. It is made with MAP (Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate) and is around $66
I love Allies of Skin's 35% Vit C! Also Penn, can you please do a review of Dr Rajani's new LED eye corrector? I just ordered one, along with his LED gua sha because I love his innovative products
I just got the new LED eye corrector from Dr Rajani (and his Gua sha). I haven’t even opened the box yet- I’ll definitely do a review 🧡
I love his innovation too 😊
I got a sample of that Vit C, and wow, the texture is so different than what I have used before! Have you noticed any differences in your skin?
Fade bright serum is amazing
I love my photozyme sunscreen and DNA repair serum, however, I noticed this vitamin C has barley extract in it. Would this still be safe for someone with a gluten sensitivity/intolerance to use?
Why do you use both Photozyme products? Doesn’t the Vitamin C product cover it? Thank you 😊
Yes, the vitamin C does cover it but I like to do my LED in the morning and I love the youth recovery before LED. If I wanted to skip youth recovery and LED I could use just the C and be covered! 🧡
@ thanks so much!!
So it’s ok to layer with prescription retinal at night? Thanks for the video!
I have been buying skinceuticals and am now reconsidering. How long would you guess we need to go through it before it’s oxidized?
I’ve tried 3 different vitamin c . My skins gets orange patchy spots a few hours after. Can’t figure out why
So if you take it orally and also use it on your face will he boost the benefits??
I LOVE justa kind of steven's Poems From The lab future focus Vtamin C that you had mentioned previously. It is very Moisturizing as well i have had mine for OPEN OVER 3 MONTHS and not a smidge of oxidation/color change. I also watched one of his IG posts about the lab he used to test his product ad the why behind it. That was veery interesting. Although his product is a bit on the pricy side i will definitely purchase again , its just such a beautiful formula.
Happy new years to you, Penny and everyone else!
Love from
Saskatchewan, Canada ❤
I think he is absolutely incredible! Thank you for the review on his C! 🧡
Thanks Penn! What is the "best" % of THD Vitamin C?
Love you Penny and want to come to visit just to see you😍. Remember the Platinum Fade bright? I got that after you discussed it.Used most of that....waiting for when you would do that follow up.
@@fitchick500 I do remember platinum fade bright, I still have it, love it and recommend it. Probably the best dedicated pigment inhibitor I own 😊
@
Thank you. Hope to see some followup content on that. HNY🎉
I almost forgot. I have been using the .01 estrogen cream lately as per my doctors say it’s good for our wrinkles. What are your thoughts on that and where would I fit that into that skin care routine pretty please
So I would fit it in to the “repair” step, and layer it depending on consistency.
🧡
If I buy the CE Ferulic do I still need the youth recovery too? Since both have dna repair enzymes.
Not in the same routine - you could skip youth recovery when you use CEF 🧡
Thank you! ❤
Thank you Penny! Quick question I cannot tolerate Timeless 20% but I can tolerate their 10% just fine, is that ok?
Yes! That’s a great recommendation (I should have mentioned!!)
Hi Penny, is it ok to apply my Timeless 20% Vitamin C E + F and then apply Photozyme Vitamin C + E, or is that even necessary (over-kill?) ~ Thank you
Overkill 🧡
I have been using vitamin c followed by fade bright 😊love both and couldn’t decide so combined them. What do you think? Am I crazy? Lol
I wouldn’t layer them unless waiting a little while after applying your timeless 🧡
Excellent explanation. Think the photozyme sounds best. I have started using C60 as I heard it is one of the most powerful antioxidants. Was wondering what your thoughts are on this ingredient. Thanks.
