  • The British Motor Museum & JDHT At Gaydon - Our Very First Visit During Rustival 2024
During the Rustival Festival car show in 2024 - tickets gave us access to the British Motor Museum. Dad and I had never visited so had absolutely no idea what to expect! Safe to say we had a fantastic time wandering around the museum, seeing all the exhibits and the awesome prototype vehicles.
In this video, Dad and I explore the museum, have a look at some of the exhibits and Dad imparts some useful knowledge about a COBEST machine!
Sit down and enjoy, come with us for a wander around the British Motor Museum.

Great video & excellent you enjoyed the museum. I have been many times, with the MX5 owners club, Superb collection. Ideally it needs a full day to appreciate it, never managed that yet though !

Hi Jon and Dad a brilliant video of the museum and love going down to Gaydon and seeing the cars but was even better with your great commentary and knowledge
Some of the cars there are special I have many family members who signed the millionth Austin, my great uncle Des worked on assembling that pre production mini and then worked on the mini line for 27 years and then my uncle on the opposite side signed the last rover 100 made! Always love taking my sons all the best to you both Daniel

@@JonCoupland yes lots of family stories with longbridge in particular including my granny’s next door neighbour was Stanley edge who helped Herbert Austin design the original Austin seven! A big part of many people’s lives around here and was sad when Longbridge closed for good

Having just hosted the annual Austin Car Clubs gathering (referred to as Austins Over Australia) in our country town here in NSW Australia last weekend, it was great to see such an extensive gathering of british motoring history there in Gaydon. Great vid and thanks for sharing…oh BTW, dad is still the star of the show….

Also, in case you didn't know, the 1 millionth Mini had the registration number S621 AOK as a nod to the first ever mini (the white one you were looking at - registration 621 AOK. 🙂👍

Your father is 100% correct about the Hillman & the rostyle wheels. I remember having them on my 1974 Avenger. Sadly it wasnt a "Tiger" model, a very slow & ponderous 1250cc 🙄.

That mini gutter trick explains why they rotted out their A Pillar.
When I worked as a Loss Adjuster we got a claim for damage to a Krypton machine from a Ferrari specialist near the Trent in Nth Lincs. From memory I think he forgot to unhook it and reversed pulling it into the garage inspection pit damaging it. We searched high and low for repair stuff but nothing could be found and he needed it as in the twenty teens he was working on 60's cars. In the end it proved best to settle with a second hand broken machine imported from the Netherlands or Germany can't remember which and the guy said with the two machines he was able to build one working one so was happy to settle at that.

MG sports cars traditionally start with the 251 vin number as it was the MG Abingdon works original phone number

Obviously you don't like ex works Austin Healeys. PWB57 was the last works Healey built to win the 1967 RAC Rally, which was cancelled because of foot and mouth.
The Number plate was Peter Brownings own. The ran the BMC Works team
