Thanks Jon and dad, came across your channel through being a 75 owner. The banter is excellent regardless, and will be continuing to watch whatever cars in the garage!
I had my 406 GLX estate almost 25 years. It was a family (7 seat) version with the same petrol engine. The first clutch lasted 140,000 miles. It went last year with 207,000 miles on the clock, it still looked good and drove beautifully. A sad loss due to ULEZ. I still miss it.
Your Dad is a legend, you should probably give him a break post Rustival though! If he's really getting into sill repair he might find an old 944 parked outside his garage door
Jon, engine designation will be XU10J4R (RFV), same engine that is in my 306 cabrio. It is a great engine, the last of the infamous XU engine that was upgraded to 16v.
Jon, your dad has become quite the star of your channel. I came for the Rover 75 content but I've enjoyed the banter between you and your dad. You could call your podcast the "Piston Podcast". How about doing the podcast while driving in a similar vein to Carpool Karaoke (without the singing of course!)?
More 406 content please gents! They're one of those cars I miss seeing. My Dad was a French car guy Renault and Citreon in the 70s, 80s and 90s. Surprised he never came home with a Peugeot. He had a late 90s Xantia estate in a very pearlescent green. Always Dieslels though as Peugeot and Citroen had the same mighty diesel engines.
I used to run a lot of the Peugeot 406 for taxis in Cornwall the GLX is a rare spec and it is a amazing colour and car all mine was 2.0 hdi diesel and mine had 400,000 miles and no issues
Hi both loving the 406 I love French cars and have owned Peugeot Citroen and Renault never had any issues my current one is a brand new 308 my first automatic The 406 was an amazing car went in my cousins saloon so comfortable especially on long runs and that replaced a series of hydropneumatic Citroens Your dads is a survivor can’t think when I have seen another recently and yes most were diesels the 2.0HDI was a great engine not sure if these had the earlier XUD that may have been 405 the petrol ones were not as common as Peugeot diesels were popular back in the day here and abroad due to the fuel economy especially on fleet sales. If I am right I think that engine was in the BX 16v and Xantia keep the videos coming it deserves to live that car
I learnt to drive in my Dad's Talbot Solara Minx, which was an ancestor of the 406. Peugeot estates are capacious and generally last pretty well, especially when maintained properly.
Jon your story actually happened at the Mercedes garage where I worked, I saw a guy come in in oily overalls and the salesmen were quite smarmy and actually asked him to leave Later that day i had been to parts and I clocked the guy come back into the showroom smart suit on Rolex etc and he again went to the 300CE-24 he saw earlier that day the salesman came over smarmy again and he said he had come in earlier that day and been asked to leave - salesman said I can’t imagine that - anyway he said I want this 300CE here’s the money and I need it for Friday The cash was all in briefcase He said don’t ever throw me out again! Turns out he was a millionaire company director who liked to still work on the tools!
My sister had a burgundy one of those also a 2.0 petrol. It did years of sterling service before she traded it in against a range rover Evoque. That was a big mistake as it caused her nothing but hassle!
but all the years loyal service - if no rust underneath defiantly treat it to a new clutch (FULL) plus will be interesting to watch Dad do the job - thanks for the videos and chat
Love the 406❤ The podcast will be entertaining😊 silly question, why has the road tax for old cars gone up, trying to force old cars off the road? Great news that the i10 is going in to get repaired, hopefully the do a good job.
Glad you also like the 406 :) - a lot of people were here for the Rover 75 journey. I genuinely have no idea ... possibly! - Hyundai i10 update will come :)
Peugeot estates just do the job ,friends dad at school was a bulider always had peugeot estates, crazy sinai taxi drivers peaugeot estates,French, more that 4 kids, peugeot estates.Your dad is a very wise man.Grow a business by saddling an already succesful smaller business with billions of debt,is good practice now...
Peugeots of old were ok but good lord Jon never let your father buy a new one , they are made by US group Stellantis , I was given one as a courtesy car and it blew up after 2 weeks LOL wet belt engine design the AA man said so now im driving a trust 1.2 Fiat 500 as a courtesy car no problems thankfully though will be very happy to be back in my i10 as its just the best for city driving. Anyway amazing your dads kept that 406 so long well done to him
@@JonCoupland Yeah cars post 2020 are very bad and all these touch screens in cars I'm not a fan of as they control everything so imagine they go wrong too ? Then you can't adjust AC or the Radio or traction control or Lights etc that's how bad it is
I venture that we're you to try moving Mum from her art studio it wouldn't be dad that inserted something in your direction, also Jon I wager that the 406 has a better ride than your 75 ,Peugeot last made a great car when we got the 205,after which it all went downhill the 405 was interesting when it came out but soon proved to be wanting,a lot of the faults were addressed when the 406 arrived on the scene especially the compliance and waft factor of the ride, which I miss to this day . Be a good lad and treat your dad to a new clutch, only get some other bugger to fit it for him they are hard work.

Your dad should do car audio books as he is so calming to listen to. He is such a perfectionist with what he does.
Were hoping to get the podcast off the ground soon 😁
If Haynes did audio books 😂👍

Oh fantastic! Glad to hear it served you well! The ULEZ has a lot to answer for!
Great content. These are really good cars. Quality is better then most "experts" think. I bought my 406 coupe in 2007, still driving it.
Glad you like them!
Your Dad is a legend, you should probably give him a break post Rustival though! If he's really getting into sill repair he might find an old 944 parked outside his garage door
Drop it off! Will make great content! Hes having a few days off now!
Great car, there was a 7 seat option on the 406 as well, great old cars 👍🏻
Cool, thanks

Lovely banter from the garage. I will be watching the proposed podcast..
Thanks Mark. Hope to get it off the ground In the next few weeks

@@JonCoupland Worth the price of a clutch perhaps? They're as rare as hen's teeth. Good old full-time Estate cars part-time vans.

Must be worth putting a clutch in ? Good car the 406 👍🏻, great content 😂👍🏻
I think so! 😃
Had one for a good while when I was fitting headstones, a good load carrier and comfy on a run.
Fantastic!
Some of my first driving lessons was in dad’s 2.8 Ford Granada Mark II Estate
Excellent 😃
I learnt to drive in my dad’s mk1 Bedford Astra van. Started my love of estates, miles better than an SUV.
Fantastic!

Excellent motors we had the horizon never ever let us down
Excellent!
Great video, please new clutch keep her going, shame about the road tax
Working on it!
Tax is similar to my Saab saloon, £395 a year. Also, I’d definitely wanna see a 406 clutch replacement video.
I'm working on it 😂
The Peugeot 505 !!!! What a shape !!! Well cool
Absolutely
Yes! Do start a Coupland Petrolheads podcast! 🤙🏻
Awesome :) will aim to film a Pilot episode in the coming weeks 😄
Yes buy a new clutch be a good few videos can't wait
Will do!!
Not seen one in years your dead right tax has killed pre 2001 cars mine is in the same bracket a podcast is an excellent idea.
Thanks - we will look to film a Pilot episode in the coming weeks 😄
The 406 is a survivor .
He's certainly keeping this one on the road :)
For the new clutch!
Thank you Frank. That's exceptionally generous! New clutch fund started now 🙂

I'll pitch in for a new clutch for the 406!
So many kind offers for this

Podcast. ‘The World According to Dad and Jon’.
Pilot episode coming soon 😁
Early naughties was the peak for cars. After that just became too domplicated. Could have an awesome garage of cars from that era.
That's pretty much the life I'm living right now 😂
New clutch kit is only £180 on ebay and thats a good one too so a bargain i think
Will speak to Dad - would make good content 🙂

Great video, a time when Peugeot still built good cars like the 206 and 306. Today they're more like space ships than cars inside though.
A classic Peugeot, pre THP era. Worth keeping in good nick 👌🏼😃

@JonCoupland despite the cost of the clutch kit, it is worth doing as Peugeot cars even "Modern" ones are pretty robust.

Ah that's a good suggestion! We've gone for Pistons! - The Podcast for now ☺️
what about a BMW E61 520D ( 2004-2006 has the better M47 engine ) ?
Not sure if dad is a fan of BMW
