This Soundtrack from Attack on Titan is also known as “Apple Seed” (ep 52), which is the vocalized version of “YouSeeBIGGIRL”. The OST is played in many important moments of the Anime but the most famous example is probably episode 31, when Eren is shouting "YOU TRAITORS!!!" after that two characters showed their true identities as "Warriors". It's also used in episode 37, in the dramatic moment when Mikasa tells Eren "Thank you, for wrapping this scarf around me."
Until today, this scene is still one of my favorite scenes in the Attack on Titan anime and I tried my best to create a piano version of “YouSeeBIGGIRL” with a similar dramatic impact as the original soundtrack.
① “The beginning of the tragedy”
Attack on Titan is essentially a story about one tragedy after another and I have structured my arrangement of YouSeeBIGGIRL in a similar way: It starts with a melancholic beginning in 0:01 until the first tragedy unfolds in 1:04. After the first climax in 2:33 it is followed by a moment of silence in 3:49 until the next “happening” starts in 4:52, culminating in an emotional finale in 5:40. I realized that the more anime soundtracks I arrange, the more I enjoy the process of including “story-telling” in the music.
② “Something BIG is coming”
I was thinking for a long time how to arrange the long musical buildup in 2:10 before the BIG climax crashes down in 2:33. The original piece has a pulsating drum rhythm playing in the background during 2:10 but I realized that imitating the rhythm alone on the piano is not enough. Therefore, I also added some chord progressions in the left hand in 2:22 to slowly build up the tension. And after some experimenting, I also included a small pause in 2:31 to maximize the impact of the climax in 2:34.
③ An “alternative” ending
The original soundtrack has a part of “Vogel in Käfig” in the second half but I have arranged a full version of this piece already. I could have simply ended the arrangement at 3:45 but I had a feeling the arrangement is still missing one half. That’s where I had the idea to include the soundtrack “ətˈæk 0N tάɪtn” in 3:51 to bring this arrangement to a musically satisfying conclusion. In 5:16 and 5:28 I even combined the right hand motif from “YouSeeBIGGIRL” with the main melody of “ətˈæk 0N tάɪtn”, foreshadowing the final climax in 5:40. In a way, this arrangement combines the two most important soundtracks from Season 1 and Season 2, representing the struggles ＜Humans vs Titans＞ in the early story arcs of Attack on Titan.

The saddest thing is that Eren was desperately crying while saying those words. I feel like all of his good memories with those two just appear in front of his eyes for the last time before he transforms into the Titan. :(

I feel like the character cast is the weakest aspect of the show. I was never able to really conect to a lot of the secondary main characters. But compared to other shows its obviously still really good. And the story, ost ect are just perfect so yea
theres always a better anime out there, it just hasn't been out yet, we cant tell the future, but as of now aot is on top ur 100 % correct.

If I am rich enough someday I will be definitely willing to donate this much or even more, even monthly subscription. Animenz literally changed my life, and I believe also someone else out there. I hated piano in my childhood and it was his delicate sheets and only his sheets which made me realize what does it feel to love piano, to express, and to be thankful to what my parents gave me, the skills. Playing Animenz's sheets on my piano is now the most important hobby in my life, since out there everyone can disappoint you, but when you are with your piano, your skill, your music won't. So I can always gain energy from the music and face tomorrow again. Many thanks Animenz.

I was lucky to discover Animenz just 2 months after I started to love watching Anime (5 yrs ago). Firstly unravel (ofcourse), then Hikaru Nara, … to Girl Inside, aLiEz
Animenz was the one who really got me into anime and piano growing up. He is a big inspiration and I still remember the goosebumps and chills I got first time listening to his arrangement of Unravel from Tokyo Ghoul. U can tell he puts his heart and soul to each of his compositions and his unique piano style is always amazing to hear every time.
Same bro, it would also be amazing to forget watching aot to be able to rewatch and experience all the plot twists and emotions of this legendary anime

Changing the color of the circular lamp thing (honestly I have no clue what to call it) from red to green right at the transition between YouSeeBIGGIRL and ətˈæk 0N tάɪtn at 3:53 was such a nice touch. You can even see that it's a mixture of green and red when Animenz starts combining the RH motif from “YouSeeBIGGIRL” with the main melody of “ətˈæk 0N tάɪtn” at 5:16. Small details like this really showcase Animenz's effort, attention to detail, and respect for the original works when he writes and performs his arrangements. What an outstanding alternative ending.

Animenz usually writes very detailed descriptions for his arrangements, but still…look at this…AoT is TRUE LOVE :D
I always love Animenz’s occasional quiet part in a majestic arrangement, this time, 3:51 was what gets me. I didn’t see it coming! It sounds like a farewell to the whole AoT, stirring up so many memories with so many emotions…
The moment before 3:51 is probably one of the longest pauses I have ever played in order to keep the suspense in the music. Glad to hear the surprise in the second half worked very well!
Remember this part 5:16 - 5:40 in his old AoT medley ? Now he did it again but in a way that really demonstrates today's Animenz. Ahh, this really throws me back.

But then, I got a little bored and I need some inspiration. So I saw his unravel cover and was amazed by how good he played, so I learned that it was from an anime. So I watched some anime and discovered the osts and op of it I also watched Tokyo ghoul and now...

Edit: really captured the atmosphere well, with an allusion at the end too! That* scene is among the handful that I can vividly recall. The lack of music, then the use of music and buildup leading to the otherworldly, anguished, transformations that for an instant, leave a monochromatic impression of their former selves.

I love this alternative ending, at the same time, I still wonder how it would be if Animenz arranged the original second half, to give the same melody a completely different flavor v.s. Vogel im Käfig. I understand it was weaved into the end of ViK arrangement, however still curious to hear the whole thing…for example, what would the siren sound like?
Maybe a casual improvisation in the future if Animenz feels like it :)

What a majestic and complete cover! Third hand melody and perfect voicing and intonation galore.
While i don't have time to fully flesh out my thoughts right now, the one moment that i'd like to highlight is 3:46. That momentary silence is a masterclass on how controlling the absence of notes is just as important as how many notes and techniques you can squeeze into a phrase. The silence is just long enough to make you question if the climax has passed but with a lingering tension that there is more to come. Perfectly performed.
Compared to my older performances (especially during the 2016 era) I started to use much more rubato and free tempo now. Maybe not as much as when I play classical music, but I am trying to find the best flow of music whenever I am recording my newest arrangements.

it was never about titans
it was about a never ending cycle that will never be broken, a cycle of hate and despair, of endless fighting and sacrifices but through all that pain there's a glimpse of hope and love, a glimpse of kindness and friendship
from the moment the show took a turning point you could notice this is about us, it represnets every single human and shows there arent any bad sides, only different sides to the same story.

Of all the arrangements you make, I feel you imbue your maturity and artistry into AOT the most. Your love for piano fused with attack on titan is beyond incredible…there’s just that one show where you click with so hard and make banger arrangements naturally, and I feel that attack on titan is that one show for you that resonates with your anipianist soul.
