MAKRIS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA made its first concert in Belgrade, Serbia, on January 31, 2015. The orchestra operates under the auspices of the Makris Music Society and the Makris Foundation, and bears the name of the American-Greek composer Andreas Makris (1930-2005).
With the aim to preserve, promote and protect the music and legacy of Andreas Makris, as well as support the development of young musical talents, Makris Music Society has, through its foundation, helped many young artists with scholarships that enabled them to attend masterclasses and workshops in Belgrade, Russia, Germany, Great Britain, USA and Austria. The foundation also helped purchase of musical instruments which are being used by the orchestra as well as other organizations with which the orchestra collaborates.
MSO pays special attention to stylistic interpretation and depending on the repertoire the musicians play on modern or period instruments, or they use certain elements that are appropriate for the appropriate interpretation (e.g. classical or baroque bows). The orchestra gathers some of the most talented musicians in the region, and received the "Orchestra of the Year" Award in 2016 from the Belgrade-based music magazine "Muzika Klasika". In the past several years it has been presenting concerts and operas in Belgrade, Novi Sad and other cities, and has collaborated with soloists such as Evelyn Berezovsky, Natasa Veljkovic, Srdjan Vukasinovic, Urmin Majstorovic, and others. MSO is also the official "orchestra in residence" of the award-winning New Belgrade Opera.

I grew up my mother watching it and I always loved it myself!
That would be me! I was 7-yrs-old when the first part of the series was on tv. NORTH & SOUTH is the reason I became very interested in the Civil War.

I was well into my 30s and it’s a classic for me. I loved the miniseries and the theme music.

My favorite mini series of all time!! I first saw it in 1985 on TV I've been in love with it ever since. I watch it on my DVD set every winter.
I loved “North and South”. I was glued to it in the 1980s and I have all 3 series on DVD. I’ve always loved the beautiful theme music, too.
My mum used to watch the mini series at least once per year when i was a kid. And when my parents watched something, I watched it, too. Of course, I couldn´t grasp the whole story this young, but I clearly remember getting goosebumps every time i heard the theme playing. Such a masterpiece

The North & South series was my first television foray into the civil war as was Roots with slavery. Bill Conti was such an exemplary composer. His scores evoke such emotion as displayed by this classic and the Rocky theme. I do hope I get a chance to visit with him in Providence.
After 39 years, I get the second opportunity to watch North And South as currently my country's satellite TV service is rerunning it. Now as well as 1985 our Tv station only airs Book 1 of the series so this time I hope I could watch all 3 seasons
Wow I loved this I was in this movie as a Union Soldier. The production people set up large battle areas where we did different battles. In one scene we attacked the Rebs. We started from a trench and climbed up to them. Charges were going off. Men were yelling. We were falling backwards. The Rebs were firing down at us. It was amazing. Seemed real at times.

Easily one of the greatest miniseries of All-Time. Between both sets of this series and to a lesser extent Book III and Lonesome Dove you can’t beat those events. They were truly of epic proportions.
I totally agree it got everything a great series should have. Great actors, Legends, music. I bought it on DVD as quick it came out.

J’ai vu cette saga des années 80 avec Patrick Swayze quand j’étais un petit enfant dans les années 90 et je l’a regarde encore, j’ai le coffret dvd. Pour moi la saison 3 tournée en 4/3 ne compte pas. Et cette musique je les acheter sur Qobuz. C’est une super saga sur la guerre de sécession, tous les acteurs sont bons. Mais pour moi celui qui fait le film c’est Elkanah Bent (Philip Casnoff). Il y a Elizabeth Taylor, David Caradine, Forest Whitaker et plein d’autres.

Le Nord et le Sud, une magnifique série, les américains doivent remercier tout les jours Dieu de leur avoir envoyé Abraham Lincoln qui a sauvé cette nation.
Nation should have split and dissolved instead of unnecessary deaths. South never accepted their defeat. It was not worth fighting to keep them . North could have then sought Union with Canada.
