They were planning a 2009 debut (which yes, is close to TDK) but if we are going by what he said in the video, there was a lot of delay and things going on slowing the production, so going by that, itd probably be released in 2010-2011 ish, 2 years before The Dark Knight Rises, so yes i can see why Producers thought people would be confused by 2 Batmen
The Lizard King and now we have Batfleck, DC is just plain stupid when they do the thing that could had saved a better JL movie ( I am not hyped by JL, but if DC learned from Wonder Woman, they may be able to become a rival for Marvel in the movie universes at last )

I'm pretty sure this script could be turned into a very good JL2 movie in the DC universe and if they allow one director to shoot it without interfering with the project and reshooting half of the movie afterwards it would definitly be a great movie. On the other side that would mean that all the build up they've done to tease a movie with darkseid as main villain would be for nothing. And I would really like to see Darkseid in the DCU

What I like about justice league mortal based off the concept art and script: -Batman having plans to take down the justice league is shown as reasonable and more of a tactic to counter mind control instead of them going rogue, and the justice league understands where he’s coming from and they forgive him BECAUSE THEY’RE FRIENDS -the heroes actually affect the world, as we hear from Alfred that Gotham is a lot safer and from Diana that there’s hardly any war and political tension -Maxwell Lord is the villain -Batman isn’t op -the league is able to overpower Superman when working together -Barry sacrifices himself and Wally becomes the flash -the costumes and sets looked fantastic What I don’t like: -Aquaman x Wonder Woman -Talia being a villain -Armie Hammer as Batman

This would have come out the same year as the first Iron Man movie. DC would have had a full decade head start with their cinematic universe. Imagine a scenario where it was Marvel who was desperate to catch up with DC and not the other way around, and this would have been Marvel having to do this solo, as Disney wouldn't have bought them until 2009.

He is a true "artiste", look at Mad Max Fury Road, a fucking masterpiece, now imagine this great story with not a bad cast at all, even though DJ Cotrona is very short for Superman and Armie Hammer way too tall for Batman, Megan Gale would have been the perfect Wonder Woman (much better than Gal Gadot), Adam Brody perfect as Flash, Common perfect for Green Lantern and Santiago Cabrera perfect as Aquaman... Not bad at all... Damn! this is such a shame... a real shame.
If the can find a way to re-use the JL: Mortal script in an upcoming DC Movie, perhap a second JL movie (assuming Superman doesn't return amnesiatic, or mind-controlled and fights against the heroes in the first Justice League because it would be redundant at that point.) Wally West operates a the Flash in the second Flash movie, and JL3 (see I'm hoping for a trilogy to the JL movies) where the main villain is finally Darkseid, Wally is about to be absorbed into the Speed Force, and Barry Allen returns at the last minute to save him. It can all work.
If this movie got a sequel, we would probably see 4 or 5 new JL Members and somehow Barry Allen coming back to life. Plus the villain would maybe be Brainiac!
