Anyone whose had a family member with downs, or some form of mental “handicap” know what pure love looks like. mine was my Gramps, who raised me. I didn’t know he was different till I was 11 years old and realized everyone else my age was being raised by people that suck.

down syndrome is a weird one. I've met countless parents with children affected by the syndrome, but somehow they all say the same thing. They don't feel sad for their children forever, they eventually realise what a special person their child is. Having the syndrome makes you like this, enthusiastic, loving and caring in most of the cases. of course there are many problems associated with it, but the parents i met all said that their afflicted child would always be more kind and emotionally available than the other "normal" children. it's truly mesmerizing.

When compared to the average family, divorces are lower, siblings expressed more feelings of closeness, pride and happiness, the individuals with DS expressed higher rates of being overall happy with their lives. These families are overall happier with life compared to the average family. This was not across the board with all disabilities, it truly seems to be unique to families of someone with Down Syndrome. I can attest to it too, I was a wife and mom for 20 years before my youngest daughter was born and even in spite of her battling Leukemia on top of having Down Syndrome, our family is and has remained closer and happier than we were before she came along. I'm proud of my daughter. At 9 she's battled and overcome more than most people do in a lifetime and she still loves life like everything is perfect.
Now compare this sht to aspergers syndrome... we have a lot of variations but I most certainly belong to the psychotic ones. (similar in general but not exact)

I’m the mom of a 9 year old with Down Syndrome. The video made me smile. It’s the comment section that’s making me bawl like a baby. The fear we have as parents that our kids will be treated poorly is insane. Then to come to a comment section expecting to see lots of bashing and actually see 4K+ in positive comments and comments calling out the dislikes give me more hope than I’ve had in a long time for this planet.
Any person who would bash a beautiful video like this or treat someone with Down’s Syndrome poorly is just horrible and ugly inside. I’m glad at least here you can see most people are good, have compassion and are just decent. The ones who aren’t stay away from and know they will answer for their sins. People who pick on people who can’t defend themselves are just miserable and will get what’s coming to them!
Don't ever fear that...The syndrome is not a negative. Those with Down syndrome are a blessing to this world...they bring such a GOOD energy...their positive nature and automatic smiles bring happiness to people. I work in a facility for them and their happy nature lightens the room up every day. When I was in high school, we had a few kids like that and everyone adored them and knew them by name.
The fact is, some people suck. The upside, is that the overwhelming majority of us would happily go out of our way to make your 9 y/o smile. I do it because I love the kid. Yes, there are people who wouldn't. But what he's showing is love and compassion for his little brother. Being around someone who has disabilities like this makes you see things more differently.
My little sister has Down Syndrome. She has those moments of pure and unfiltered joy, where she lights up just like this kid does here. Such a touching thing to see 🙏
My brother - now retired - used to teach HS to "special needs" teenagers. He would keep them for 5 years and if they had to go to another class for some reason he would follow them there too so they felt comfortable. He started out just having them one year but the kids kept getting out of their classes to join his so the smart principal did a survey amongst the families and they decided he should stay with them. He says the same as you; they always had those moments too and he would let them have it instead of interrupting.

My career was working with special populations and special doesn't even start to explain how they are. They are kind, loving, giving, people that made my days so much better. I miss them so much. This was precious like they are.
As a sibling of an individual with a developmental disability, I can tell you first hand that, yes, the world can be a cruel place for people like this but every one of them brings joy and beauty into the world and most of them love life. It is hard to watch people mistreat them and I’ve had my fair share of having to stand up for individuals with disabilities including my own autistic brother. I have, however, seen an improvement since I was younger. Things seem to be getting more inclusive and people are becoming more accepting.

When she started school the school asked her right away which washroom she wanted to use and made sure she was comfortable. She wanted the girl’s washroom so they said, ok. They didn’t assume and neither did her mom. They just followed her wishes the whole way. Her mom said it started when the little one started asking for things like a Princess birthday party and to wear dresses and her mom said, why not. My granny taught Down syndrome kids and helped with the Special Olympics for decades. We used to visit her classroom when we were kids, and they were the sweetest kids 💗 Even when they grew up, they would always run up and give her a hug if we ran into them in town 😊

My oldest son has downs syndrome and is his three siblings favourite hands down. He never gets angry and is never mean he is a beautiful person. This one got to me.
I'm a nurse and over the. . .uh em decades ( I'm old😉) that I have worked people with Downs Syndrome were always my favorite patients when they would pop into ER. No matter why they are there they are always respectful and kind. Doesn't matter how scared they are. I have never gotten anything but immediate and consistent love from my patients with Downs Syndrome.

This hit me hard. One of the nicest things a sibling can do or say to ask another sibling for something which is life changing. Myself I stand in this boat, I have other special needs (not down syndrome) but I do have a speach problem, balance issues as well as many other learning difficulties and a few medical issuses ( thankfully nothing major). You're right, it doesn't define him! But this is something special about him, that makes him different to the average Joe. If the title was "brother asks his brother to be his best groom" then it'd be something that happens quite often. Most people have their siblings as important roles in their wedding, but this situation is meaningful and even more special than the average sibling asking another sibling to be apart of the wedding! We should celebrate what makes us unique and special😊There's no negative connotation to it, so I think it is just showing what happens.

I’m the mom of a 9 year old with Down Syndrome. The video made me smile. It’s the comment section that’s making me bawl like a baby. The fear we have as parents that our kids will be treated poorly is insane. Then to come to a comment section expecting to see lots of bashing and actually see 4K+ in positive comments and comments calling out the dislikes give me more hope than I’ve had in a long time for this planet.

Any person who would bash a beautiful video like this or treat someone with Down’s Syndrome poorly is just horrible and ugly inside. I’m glad at least here you can see most people are good, have compassion and are just decent. The ones who aren’t stay away from and know they will answer for their sins. People who pick on people who can’t defend themselves are just miserable and will get what’s coming to them!
Don't ever fear that...The syndrome is not a negative. Those with Down syndrome are a blessing to this world...they bring such a GOOD energy...their positive nature and automatic smiles bring happiness to people. I work in a facility for them and their happy nature lightens the room up every day. When I was in high school, we had a few kids like that and everyone adored them and knew them by name.
The fact is, some people suck. The upside, is that the overwhelming majority of us would happily go out of our way to make your 9 y/o smile.
I dunno if anyone has told you lately but, from one parent to another, if you’re doing your best then, you’re doing a great job. Hold your head up high, mama. You’re slaying it.

I used to volunteer at a home for young adults with Down’s. They were the most loyal and genuine friends.
My mom once told me that Down’s people are incapable of being malicious. I wish that was a more common trait.
Is it True though? Wondering because when I was a kid, we would drive to a trailer park in summer near the sea (germany) which belongs to our family, and there was one about 10 yrs old and I'm remembering him to be mean and cursing a lot. Maybe bad influence ^^

I do it because I love the kid. Yes, there are people who wouldn't. But what he's showing is love and compassion for his little brother. My brother - now retired - used to teach HS to "special needs" teenagers. He would keep them for 5 years and if they had to go to another class for some reason he would follow them there too so they felt comfortable. He started out just having them one year but the kids kept getting out of their classes to join his so the smart principal did a survey amongst the families and they decided he should stay with them. He says the same as you; they always had those moments too and he would let them have it instead of interrupting.

My career was working with special populations and special doesn't even start to explain how they are. They are kind, loving, giving, people that made my days so much better. I miss them so much. This was precious like they are.

As a sibling of an individual with a developmental disability, I can tell you first hand that, yes, the world can be a cruel place for people like this but every one of them brings joy and beauty into the world and most of them love life. It is hard to watch people mistreat them and I’ve had my fair share of having to stand up for individuals with disabilities including my own autistic brother. I have, however, seen an improvement since I was younger. Things seem to be getting more inclusive and people are becoming more accepting.

When she started school the school asked her right away which washroom she wanted to use and made sure she was comfortable. She wanted the girl’s washroom so they said, ok. They didn’t assume and neither did her mom. They just followed her wishes the whole way. Her mom said it started when the little one started asking for things like a Princess birthday party and to wear dresses and her mom said, why not. These people who say parents force their kids into being transgender are ridiculous. I think it’s awesome. I actually consider myself non-binary personality wise but I still go by female even though I’m not really like other girls. Online I sometimes play males and most of my friends call me male when I’m playing a male or female when I’m playing a female.

My granny taught Down syndrome kids and helped with the Special Olympics for decades. We used to visit her classroom when we were kids, and they were the sweetest kids 💗 Even when they grew up, they would always run up and give her a hug if we ran into them in town 😊

I'm a nurse and over the. . .uh em decades ( I'm old😉) that I have worked people with Downs Syndrome were always my favorite patients when they would pop into ER. No matter why they are there they are always respectful and kind. Doesn't matter how scared they are. I have never gotten anything but immediate and consistent love from my patients with Downs Syndrome.

This hit me hard. One of the nicest things a sibling can do or say to ask another sibling for something which is life changing. Myself I stand in this boat, I have other special needs (not down syndrome) but I do have a speach problem, balance issues as well as many other learning difficulties and a few medical issuses ( thankfully nothing major). But during the times of the pandemic that we are seeing, a video like this really can brighten someone's day with the kindness that is bought along with it.

You're right, it doesn't define him! But this is something special about him, that makes him different to the average Joe. If the title was "brother asks his brother to be his best groom" then it'd be something that happens quite often. Most people have their siblings as important roles in their wedding, but this situation is meaningful and even more special than the average sibling asking another sibling to be apart of the wedding! We should celebrate what makes us unique and special😊There's no negative connotation to it, so I think it is just showing what happens.
