Unfortunately the vast majority of these scammers are not punished. As the victims are mostly foreigners in other countries, there are issues with Indian police taking on complaints, you need victim statements, identification of the offender for each offence, a report and the victim willing to travel to India as well as Interpol and foreign police agencies all exchanging information. Plus foreign jurisdiction issues with evidence being acceptable. Evidence would also need to be gathered that is gathered lawfully from these call centres and in an acceptable format that directly links all parties with no gaps. Plus, Indian police are notoriously corrupt and are known to receive bribes so that illegal call centres can operate in their jurisdictions. Naming and shaming is good, but most often the faces are forgotten and the scammers can move on and set up new offices. India had become a Mecca for scam call centres. I hope bad luck happens to the ones identified, but not holding my breath.

Free agents like this guy can do it because while it is (probably) technically illegal, he is doing the right thing and no LE agency is going to come after him. In fact, although they'd never say it, they might be some of his biggest fans. Computer crime laws vary by country, so Amazon would have to navigate a tangled web of domestic criminal law, Indian criminal law, domestic corporate law etc. while also diverting massive resources to the process. It just isn't feasible for them, which is why we need more people like this to discourage scumbag behavior

Scammers in India increased during the time of the Covid-19 pandemic as many people were unemployed and didn't have money, so these people would join these call centers out of circumstances. But now they are doing it for fun.

It's just that we are now cautious about such scam calls to the point that we don't give out details even over a genuine call. Government and authorities have shutdown and arrested several of these scam call centers. But these people are smart and know how to fly under the radar.

We are a huge population and the police always have their hands full with local ompalints. They can only raid as many places for the issues which do not even have a documented complain. So in reality you traded promissory notes with the bank but for some reason you are expected to pay the bank when it was an even transaction and no money was ever loaned.

@@Loosehead Majority of the police force is busy filling their pockets. It took a BBC documentary to take down one such scam call center. There are thousands more still operating. Delhi, UP & Kolkata (my city) are the main hubs.

As an Indian, thank you for exposing these scammers. I nearly got scammed twice. Scammers in India increased during the time of the Covid-19 pandemic as many people were unemployed and didn't have money, so these people would join these call centers out of circumstances. But now they are doing it for fun.

@@michellea9857 I think people are now becoming aware of it because of social media. They don't just scam westerners, they scam us too. It's just that we are now cautious about such scam calls to the point that we don't give out details even over a genuine call. Government and authorities have shutdown and arrested several of these scam call centers. But these people are smart and know how to fly under the radar.

@@michellea9857 I dont think much is being done, I mean if he can find this many then it should not be too difficult for the local police. We are a huge population and the police always have their hands full with local ompalints. They can only raid as many places for the issues which do not even have a documented complain. I mean if the foreigners are affected, who is going to file a complaint at the police station. Maybe make a huge deal about it in the media. Then maybe they will take actions more actively and thoroughly.

@@chumnutzly Most countries still allow banks to pretend they loan money and you're OK with that, I mean, when you get a loan from a bank if you ask for the loan in cash they give you a stack of promissory notes....but to get the loan you gave them a promissory note you signed. So in reality you traded promissory notes with the bank but for some reason you are expected to pay the bank when it was an even transaction and no money was ever loaned.
