Yeah this one definitely tugged my heart strings. Reminded me of when I had to leave my cat with my mom for about 6 months and then when I came back she looked at me the exact same way as the gorilla did.
I don't really see it that way. Whenever I see old friends, it's sad when we have to say goodbye, but its better to see them and be sad than not see them at all. And now that the trainer knows its safe to go out and visit Kwibi, I bet he goes back now and then.

I’m not surprised that Kwibi recognized the man who raised him; there have been innumerable, interactive studies done to show that great apes have a memory capacity which dwarfs that of humans, many times over. What did surprise me was how deeply connected he felt to the man who raised him & not only that he followed the boat all the way back to the lodge where the man was staying, but also that he had waited all thru the night to be able to see him again! Ultimately, the only way to construe what we saw is to acknowledge/admit that he (Kwibi) must still love him, deeply - which I find incredibly moving & extraordinarily beautiful! Clearly, humans aren’t the only animals capable of love, or any other complex emotion(s) & we should definitely stop thinking of ourselves that way … we all came from the same primordial soup!

I don't know which documentary it was, but it showed a group of elephants who would always mourn the death of a lost member (a child of one of the cows) whenever they reached the place where it happened. Having emotions like that for multiple years afterwards would count in my book. I do however agree that when it comes to push that animals would always favour their instincts.

Many species of primate use hugging as a deterrent for violence. For instance, if two chimps are fighting one male may scoop up a baby to initiate a cease fire. Kwibi was likely protecting Damien. Its also incredible that they were able to lock eyes. Gorillas are peaceful by nature but you should never look them in the eyes, it's provocative. This was a lovely story.

As the saying goes you may not always remember everything that someone says, but you will always remember how they made you feel. Obviously he remembers the love that this man had that raised him while he was a baby. It had to be hard to release him back into his natural environment but he knew what would be best for him. It was a happy ending because he got to see him again and make sure that he was okay and doing well and he showed his love and affection and appreciation to the man who raised him. So smart and intelligent and loyal.

Yeah but I don't think animals dwell on things like humans do. Animals are definitely capable of deep emotions, however instinct is stronger in them than us.

@@alexeaslick3243 Actually some of them are capable of that. I don't know which documentary it was, but it showed a group of elephants who would always mourn the death of a lost member (a child of one of the cows) whenever they reached the place where it happened.
Having emotions like that for multiple years afterwards would count in my book.
I do however agree that when it comes to push that animals would always favour their instincts.

I was crying while watching this video.. whatt bond they had together was never ending.
Hugging is a sign of possession among gorillas. By hugging Damien, Kwibi claimed him as a son, and this act prevented other gorillas from attacking him. Many species of primate use hugging as a deterrent for violence. For instance, if two chimps are fighting one male may scoop up a baby to initiate a cease fire. Kwibi was likely protecting Damien. Its also incredible that they were able to lock eyes. Gorillas are peaceful by nature but you should never look them in the eyes, it's provocative. This was a lovely story.

You know it is so beautiful and to know that there are humans who do not love their children like me, a mother who abandoned me since I was born and now I am a woman, I got divorced, I had 2 children here in Costa Rica and I never abandoned my children, they are already exceptional students.
Now my mother is looking for me because she is old and I took care of her for 10 years, but I didn't know that I had lost my memory of her since I was little, she broke my skull and I was in a coma.
I ride a motorcycle and I hit my head, I had a concussion, I remembered everything that happened before, child abuse and more... what a bad mother, I tried to get over it but I couldn't, how bad she was to me.
And I told her to leave my house, I can't have my mother around, because I already know everything and it hurts for her that something should happen to her, but it makes me very bad to remember what she was doing against my little life, I only ask her forgiveness. God but I can't live with her 😭😭😭😭

As the saying goes you may not always remember everything that someone says, but you will always remember how they made you feel. Obviously he remembers the love that this man had that raised him while he was a baby. It had to be hard to release him back into his natural environment but he knew what would be best for him. It was a happy ending because he got to see him again and make sure that he was okay and doing well and he showed his love and affection and appreciation to the man who raised him. So smart and intelligent and loyal.
