@Stephen braden Tortuga is a tiny island off the coast of Hispaniola that was so insignificant that the Spanish never bothered to seriously settle it or even have a permanent military presence there. Pirates build the entire island up from the ground and it was the centre of piracy for over 4 decades. There's probably other comments about it but: If you haven't watched Black sails, do yourself a favour and watch it! It has the grit and character depth that game of thrones had, but actually had a decent ending!
This was awesome. Very good script Simon. And great delivery. Thank you.
The algorithm suggests nothing but videos I've already watched until you post new vids on all your channels , I wait for these lol ..
Same. XD
Same here 😕
Random guy “being a pirate would be pretty cool!” Scurvy: “yeah, sure pal”
Looking forward to the Knight Templars, Hospitallers and the Teutonics! 😉
When I saw "worst pirate", I thought you meant 'most evil'.
me too
So Capt. Jack actually IS... Capt. Jack!!
Good stories involve pirates. Great stories are Simon mangling place names throughout.
I’d love one on the lead singer of Motörhead. He had an incredibly interesting life story. You could title it Lemmy: Born to Lose, Lived to Win
There already is a very good documentary called Lemmy.
@@timberray9572 I'm aware but it'd still be cool to have it on here
Oooo, catchy!
Any time I see a photo of Lemmy, I'm overcome with an intense urge to cut off whatever that growth on his face was. why the hell did he wear that thing his whole life??
@@IIISWILIII IKR!
The random sound effects got me floored 😂😂
As always an excellent episode, thank you.
I'm reminded of the book: The Pyrates by George MacDonald Fraser. It's utter nonsense in which Calico Jack is a significant figure but is a jolly good read which I'd highly recommend.
I feel like Calico Jack might have been the inspiration for Jack Sparrow.....
I mean.... both are considered the worst pirates in their universe, both are named Jack and both have an animal in their namesake
Urge to rewatch Black Sails rising :black_flag:
Raise the Black! -- Great video, thoroughly enjoyed this.
I’m so mad. I see this video in my recommendations, I say “huh, this looks interesting” I click on it, and it’s freaking Simon Whistler again. The man is everywhere, I think he’s following me.
"When you decide" instead of "if you decide" is one of the most annoying marketing techniques.
Along with 'congratulations on getting the opportunity to give me your money'
Just educate your children to see through it. Freedom of speech prevents anything else being done about it.. officially.. ofcourse you can go talk to the company that made the commercial over a seriously hot cup of tea.. if they're out of line.
Shoutout to Toby Schmitz who played him to perfection in Black Sails!
Bahamian and bohemian aren't the same thing, mate.
Bohemian is used correctly within the context as it means unconventional, he is refereing to an unconventional pub aka a brothel.
thought u did something there aye
Arrrrrrrr
@@Kai-mh6sv It means socially unconventional in an artistic way, so no, he didn't use it correctly, because even in the provided context, the definition doesn't fit. Thought you did something there, eh?
@@johnnycaraltaBohemian also refers to a free lifestyle consistent with the one led by Rockhampton and other pirates, not just art.
I'm actually related to Calico Jack, so now I have someone to blame my incompetence on.
Charles II looks like the human Squidward. It’s uncanny. Oooh, do his wife. She’s great and beyond amazing and lived till like 80 and had 12 kids in total.
@Platigx ok so I wasnt the only one noticing that XD
Thank you for making these for us! You do such a great job. Im not a big fan of pirates, but I enjoy every video you make! Very well done. I would love to hear a biographics episode about Dwight D. Eisenhower!
It's funny because his spouse Anne Bonnie is one of the infamous female pirates so he probs was pretty overshadowed by her
Wait, was Calico Jack one of the bodies in the beginning of Pirates of the Caribbean that Jack salutes on his way into Port Royal?????
Who remembers Black sails? 💥💥
Thursday is your day in the barrel..lol
Our Flag Means Death fans: Yes.
He wasn't that bad, he got a video narrated by Simon Whistler, gotta count for something.
Honestly his life sounds pretty fun and interesting.... Imagine being alive at that time and sailing ships like that all over the place and attacking and plundering other ships and even stealing their ships if they were of quality. Sailing to some stunning tropical island after a good plunder and partying it up on the tropical paradise with all the alcohol you could want and then going out and doing it all over again. Just imagine living out on those tropical waters though that just sounds so nice even if they were lacking modern accommodations. He lived a more adventurous life than most will live that's for sure not to mention he went down in history just doing his thang lol. It is also amazing that he apparently came up with the iconic flag that we associate with pirates.
Amen
Johnny Depp's had enough rum to be an actual pirate.
Damn.....gonna have to binge on "Black Sails"....
Yea you should!
Shouout to Black Sails for making this even more interesting
Excellent show
Even though his appearance in AC Black Flag was quite brief, he did have a lot of impact due to his funny but foolish personality
From what I heard, William Kidd wasn't exactly a pretty effective pirate either -- even if he DID inspire Long John Silver to a point....
Agreed!
Hey Simon i wish you where my history teacher at school you know so much and with all your content across all your channels and your team id like to say thankyou for keepinng me sane through this time with the cro19 going on and the dreaded self iso so thanks guys.
something smells fishy..
the snitches wife somehow "escapes" prison??
One story I heard of it was that Anne Bonny was a fan of sleight of hand magic, she made a bet with her guard for her freedom that she could turn a deck of cards into a dove. Apparently she succeeded.
So, that wouldn't even be the weirdest thing she did.
Also, I can't remember if I heard that story on this channel or elsewhere...
Supposedly she came from an influential family and they somehow finagled her release.
@@zarasbazaar that sounds more like the reality i expect..
zarasbazaar no that was the other girl on the ship, Anne Bonny was pregnant
They were both pregnant.
Did you even watch the damn video before deciding to comment, Alexander?
