Watched “Our Flags Mean Death” on HBOMax and got curious if it was based on a real person. What the hell, he was real! I am pretty sure I watched this video when it came out and forgot, but had me thinking while watching the Television Show, “Do I already know this?” Thanks for being a TH-cam Channel of dense and obscure historical information, but should be more common knowledge. You fills in holes in my dictated and regulated American School’s History Books.
And the show played heavily on actual events, like him pairing up with Blackbeard, and how Blackbeard never was attributed with killing anyone...he actually preferred to not kill anyone and use his prestige and myths surrounding him to scare his foes.

I say Stede Bonnet can serve the best example of how you can have everything but still not be satisfied with your life. And while he might not have been the best pirate ever, the fact that we are still talking about him today makes this one of the most successful mid-life crisis of all time.

But that does not mean they didn't get the idea from IH or Count Dankcula. What is the most time consuming is the fact they would have to do research and condense it into the 20 minute informative format that this channel is known for. While they would have gotten around to Stede eventually, he clearly got priority. Not hating, but to call this a "coincidence" is bollocks.

Blackbeard at least let Stede basically cruise on his ship to read and lounge in his pajamas like in the show, so I like to think they clicked as friends at some point. They hung out and worked alongside each other for way too long for Blackbeard to always have wanted to betray him, and the show definitely is onto something by suggesting they could have connected on a deeper emotional level considering that Blackbeard might've had a similar background to Stede complete with a skill in marketing his image (just as fearsome instead of gentlemanly) and an aversion to killing.

Blackbeard at least let Stede basically cruise on his ship to read and lounge in his pajamas like in the show, so I like to think they clicked as friends at some point. They hung out and worked alongside each other for way too long for Blackbeard to always have wanted to betray him, and the show definitely is onto something by suggesting they could have connected on a deeper emotional level considering that Blackbeard might've had a similar background to Stede complete with a skill in marketing his image (just as fearsome instead of gentlemanly) and an aversion to killing.
