    I'm an older skater who wanted to get back into boarding. I knew I was going to build my own board and I used the interweb to do some research before buying. I did go to Zumiez, but everything I picked was top notch, so quality was never an issue. Was it more than I wanted to spend, yes, but I got exactly what I wanted. The fact that I like my board makes me want to ride it more. When I left Zumiez, every employee loved my board. Even at the skatepark, I get compliments on it. It fits me, it looks good, and I'm getting more comfortable with it everyday. However you decide to purchase, make sure you like it and are comfortable with it. If not, you will regret your purchase and will not ride it.

    I recently got my dream board, FINALLY. I bought it "Complete", & it's fvcking perfect! It's an 8.5 Zero deck, Independent trucks, decent wheels, perfect everything as far as my standards & preferences. Obviously it's way more fun to build your own board from scratch, but I saved SO MUCH MONEY. Just from buying the completed option. It came with the same exact set-up I would've bought & put together had I built it myself. If you're curious about getting a complete board, just check out ALL the specs, & then research EVERYTHING. Maybe I just got super lucky, but that was my experience after a ten year hiatus from skating proper skateboards. (I got into longboarding for a long time. Just riding around, bombing hills, going WAY too fast & got hurt A LOT)
    That whole time I missed my old proper skateboard, so yeah I finally got my dream board & it's so fvcking nice. I've been skating every single day since it arrived. Just make sure you know everything you're buying, and obviously get the right size for your feet, or your preference, style or whatever. Shoe size is 13 (U.S./Mens) so the 8.5 fits like a glove. I love it so much! ❤ -

      Update:
      I ended up completely taking my board apart. Replaced the grip tape with some MOB grip tape, & got a set of Bones Redz Precision bearings/washers. N I got a set of Powell Peralta Andy Anderson (97a 52mm) Dragon Formula wheels. My board is SO MUCH BETTER NOW. The wheels alone are such a massive improvement. 97a feels like I'm skating on a smoothly paved driveway even when I'm skating on the street. The design of the wheels is insane, they literally literally do climb up the curbs in my neighbourhood. They roll right over little rocks, cracks & pretty much everything else. I've never been more impressed with a set of skateboard wheels in my entire life. I also realized that the trucks that came with my board were a little to short for the 8.5" deck. I messaged the company about it, & they immediately sent me a brand new set of trucks that fit perfectly, (& let me keep the trucks that were to small) so now my wheel base is exactly where it should be, & because of the Powell Peralta Anderson wheels they cover the bolts & they do NOT stick out at all, they're right where they should be, & I can't see them while standing on the board looking down. Feels like everything is easier, the ride is so smooth, I absolutely fvcking love it. Re-reading my initial comment, I laughed when I saw that I said the board was perfect. The deck was perfect, the wheels were too hard, & cheap as fvck, & I found out the trucks were too small for the deck. Now that I've got the perfect size trucks & the Andy Anderson wheels, it really is perfect. It's all broken in, has a little wear on it. It actually looks like it's been used a lot, because it has been! I was skating every single day for weeks once they sent me the right size trucks, & I'm still amazed with the feel & the design of the Andy Anderson wheels. I don't know if anyone else has tried them, but I couldn't possibly recommend them enough. I got really good at Coconut Wheelies almost immediately, & I absolutely LOVE how smooth the ride is on any surface reallly, & the wheels really do just climb up & over everything. It's incredible. I couldn't be more impressed with those wheels. They're not cheap but goddamn are they worth it. The MOB grip tape is SO much better than whatever grip tape the board came with. N now I have the satisfaction of taking apart & building my own board. With my size 13 Vans, the 8.5" Zero "Single Skull" deck is absolutely perfect. I've fallen in love with skating all over again. I'm still out skating nearly every day, & have a absolutely ZERO plans of stopping. It's definitely harder to flip an 8.5" deck, but I've slowly gotten used to it, & Ollies are like second nature to me again like they used to be. I'm building up my strength pretty quickly, & I need all the strength I can get to Ollie high enough to flip the board & land on it every time. I can't wait to hit up the skatepark that's only seven miles from my house. I'm used to my board now, I'm comfortable as Hell on it now. So yeah, I'm fvckin' stoked about all the improvements I've made to it, & have a full set of Triple 8 pads, the wrist savers alone have already paid for themselves twice over, & I already had my late best friend's Pro Triple 8 knee pads & helmet. I just needed some elbow pads & wrist savers. I probably look like a total fvcking nerd when I'm rocking all that Triple 8 gear, but they have prevented some seriously bad injuries already, & I'm totally fine being decked out in pads. At least they're all Triple 8, they're all black & they fvcking work! I couldn't recommend the Triple 8 pads enough either. That shit is made to take a beating, & they're so comfortable. I've yet to seriously hurt myself, so that's a massive win in my book. I appreciate this video btw, it definitely helped me make the changes I needed to make, & now my board is truly perfect. So I really do appreciate it. -

      @MidnightSnackSkateboarding  4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Hi friend! I'm assuming by type you are talking about a skateboard, a cruiser, a penny board, and a long board? (Correct me if i'm wrong). A skateboard is used for tricks and what not, the rest I listed are made for... well cruising. So if you want to do tricks, I'd recommend getting a skateboard. As far as depth, most skateboards are going to be pretty much the same. I'd worry more about size than depth. Hope that helps! 🙏🙏

    I recommend a size 8.0 because it's like the middle size and I used a 8.0 for my first board when I was 8 years old and it worked perfectly fine when I got my 3rd board when I was about 9 I tried 7.75 and it was a little too small it felt like so I recommend 8.0 for a beginner because it's like the middle size and 8.0 will be perfect for anyone (besides a baby) if you're like 6 I recommend 7.25

    I just went average everything (except trucks, i like them tighter). My philosophy is start with something in the middle, and you'll eventually figure out what you want. Researching won't really help when you're very new, so just get something and go!

    So I’m not too new to skateboard and I’ve been doing it for a year my deck that I have right now is broken so I’m just asking what companies are most cost effective just for a deck and grip tape? Also how much should I be spending roughly in Canadian dollars?

    • @MidnightSnackSkateboarding
      @MidnightSnackSkateboarding  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! I know you can either check websites under the "Sale" section and you can most likely find a board with free griptape for like 54 canadian dollars. However, I'm not sure the price of shipping since those are from American shops. My best recommendation is if you can find either a local shop or an online shop you can usually find either sale boards or "shop boards". A shop board is a good quality board, the main difference is that it has the skate shops own graphic. For example, Tactics.com has a bunch of boards that just say "Tactics" on them and they are pretty cheap. I hope that helps!

    buy a complete skateboard and just replace the parts when you got the extra cash, the first thing you honestly should get is bushings and bearings to begin with then research what kinda wheels, trucks and board you wanna get. this was my progress but im happy with it.
    Almost Rodney Mullen YOLO 8.0 (probs gonna stick with almost or try an enjoi since its basically the same wood)
    Tensor trucks Alloy 5.25 (changing to venture or royal once i get $$$)
    Bones bushings 96A
    China reds/Big reds (i brought both but honestly China reds will do ya)
    Spitfire F4 Classics d97 54mm
    Enjoi Little buddies bolts (swag)
    EDIT: My original setup was an element 7.75, was okay but didn't like the concave on it, and i live in country australia so the roads are rough as balls thats why i went for the 97s and 54mm if anyones wondering.

    Thank you so much for this! I made a new friend who skates and let me use her board (31 years old and 1st time on a board). Have decided I have to get my own. Unfortunately, the only free fun cash I have at the moment is a voucher for the big evil corp :(
    Update: I got my board from Native skate store and used amazon voucher for pads and helmet :)

    Ok so I'm in the child to teen bracket, and I'm tiny. So does the shoe size matter? Or is it just the overall size you are.

    • @MidnightSnackSkateboarding
      @MidnightSnackSkateboarding  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's typically your overall size. If you are smaller, I'd recommend getting a board between 7.5-8 inches. You should be fine with anything in between that! :)

  • @Cat-m1h
    @Cat-m1h ปีที่แล้ว

    I bought my first complete like a year ago when I knew noting about skating and I kind of regret it, I didn’t know anything about the sizes or brands so I ended up buying a $60 grizzly complete and it sucks… It’s way too small and uncomfortable and the pop is really bad so yeah definitely do your research if you’re thinking about buying a complete. I’m gonna buy a new one soon but buying everything separately is SOOO expensive!!
