Man it's crazy to think I was watching these videos in the summer of 2016, not even able to stand on my new board but excited to learn and now I can ride like it's second nature and learned so many tricks from your videos. There's so much nostalgia in hearing the chill background music and seeing all of the skate spots you used to film in. If you're new and are really struggling to pick skating up, that's normal! Just keep at it and have fun, I'd give anything to be back in those days again
@Sillyxslushy to learn which part? To the best of my memory, learning the first few stages (total beginner to ollie), it went something like: Basic riding took me about 3 months of constant practice to get the hang of. Faster and more controlled movement took me an extra few months, during which I picked up one or two super simple tricks. I then spent the better part of 9 months learning to do a really basic ollie whilst rolling slowly, but eventually (I guess over the course of a year or so), I could ollie pretty well. I didn't think I'd ever get that far lol. Took me a while to get there but the level of control gained from all of that practice is so rewarding. Hope that helps!
@@CR4ZY_F4Nsame lol but I got one for my birthday and safety gear! I just give myself secondhand embarrassment when I stuff something up/don’t learn it quick enough 😂
I don’t even skate much anymore, I haven’t found the time in years. But i remember watching all your trick guides years ago and being so excited to go to the park with my friends and try them out. You‘re one of the reasons I spent so much time out there, connecting with friends and having fun. I miss it, i don’t know anyone who skates anymore. But the fact that you still make these videos makes me so happy. I know another generation of skaters will be well looked after.
Pick it up again man. I skated hard from 14-18, then quit to work more. My girlfriend became a wife. Apartment became a house. Hourly job turned salaried. NONE of those things have brought me as much personal fulfillment as picking up skating again in the last year at 34yo. I felt like such a drone. Always doing what I needed to do, and almost never doing anything I wanted to do. Don't only focus on what you have to. Focus on something because you want to.
I actually got my skateboard years ago for Christmas because I mentioned that I wanted to learn. But...i never got to it, fear and having no time due to school caused it to collect dust. I won't learn today, but when I'm done with school or nearly done, I will. Same with learning to play Ukelele, don't let me forget that. See you all when the day comes I become a skater.
Best first day skating tutorial so far! Nobody talks about one footed balance for pushing / stopping or why one should use both legs to lift the end of the board. Monster Walk is also useful to get comfortable on the board.
just got my first board this week. did a little skating as a young teenager, but at age 33 im ready to give it a better shot. thanks for posting such a calm and judement free beginners video.
IMO the best way to figure out your stance is thinking about how you slide on ice naturally. You kniw that when you are fooling around on ice in regular shoes. You run for it, and start sliding as it feels natural. Now that will also be your skateboarding stance. At least I got this advice, and it worked right away for me
Please don’t stop your videos there fantastic I broke my leg 3 years ago trying to drop in on a ramp broke my leg both bones completely and just started back up again and your videos got me trying again thank you so much ❤
Awesome, I'm 43 here so it looks like there is hope for me yet. I haven't skated since I was about 10 and was never really good at it, I've always been more of a cyclist. It just came naturally to me, I just bought my 6 year old son his first skateboard and am hoping to learn with him. I'm thinking skating is a bit like biking in that once you learn, something that you can't read or hear about just clicks while your actually doing it and you never forget.
Then you suck at skateboarding. If you own that thing for a month and you still have no balance and can't even ride that thing freely around town, then it's best for you to either start practicing or just throw it out. If you spend your entire day on the pc and now practicing now and then, what is the point of that thing? Idiots these days...
you should take as much time you need to learn tbh (i say this as a beginner, i got my board a week ago and am learning how to stand and properly balance)
i started skating ALMOST 2 years ago, last year moved into an apparent complex and im sooo scared to skate outside of my house. before that i skate on my roof, just learnt to almost ollie and ride the board I'll updates if i skate outside tho :)
Thank you so much, I just got my skateboard yesterday and this video helped me very much, especially the part when I realized that I put my whole feet on it
Hey man I am a big fan of your content and since I started skating in October all of your beginner tutorials were very helpful I just wanted to ask you if you can make more videos about more intermediate level skateboarding and maybe not really about tricks since you have covered most of them but about different concepts and ways to improve them in order to progress. I am a big fan and I thank you for the beginner friendly content you have provided until now!
I don't have a board, but in school our p.e teacher brings one or two so we can play around! I really like just experimenting, and I may be able to buy one some day! this vid helps alot :D
It's been 20 years since I've been seriously on a board and now my kids wanna learn. This is a great video to refresh my memory and get them started. Thanks!

This video helped me SOOO MUCH. I got my board today and I already know how not to fall of my board immediately, and how to ride very slowly! THANK YOU ♥️
I’ve been skating for about more than half of my life and I’ve recently started doing tricks , I’ve just used my board to cruse around and now I really want to do tricks and I’m mainly struggling with commitment , I’m so afraid of breaking something yk
I remember when I first started skating I used some running shoes, then changed them to some AirWalk’s after the outsole started to wear out and the mesh that made the shoes ripped apparat after trying Ollie’s for the first time lol
Save up for some shoes, but if you wanna try riding barefoot or on crocs until you have enough money that’s ok. Just don’t do anything to crazy until you get new shoes so your safe
Dang I remember when I first started. That was 18 years ago now. Amazing I still see the change happening in the youth today. The sooner you start the better off you'll be.
