  • Ever since my crash earlier in the summer, I have been searching for the ultimate lightweight, breathable mountain bike full face helmet. In this video we will take a close look at two of the best options out there, the IXS Trigger FF helmet and the Kali Invader helmet. They both boast lightweight, all day wearability but the details of each are very different. This in depth review will cover the features of each and the pros and cons.
    Interested in the IXS Trigger FF? Click my link below to Competitive Cyclist and you’ll get a great helmet and I’ll get a little kickback:

    Or if you want the Kali Invader, click the link below. Word is that they are addressing some of the issues that I didn’t really like:

    Kali crash replacement is for one helmet. If you crash the replacement, they offer a discount on the next one though.

      Down to Ride MTB it is,especially as most other manufacturers „only“ give you 50% discount if you crash.

      only problem is they've been sold out of the invader 2.0 for quite some time, so even if you find one on eBay, if you break it they aren't going to have a replacement in stock for you

    Good review dude! By the way those bags are actually really handy. Helps protect the shell of the helmet when in transport and makes it really easy to carry when your transporting your gear to the car from the house. They’re also really thin and vented my helmets never get gross🙏🏾

    I got the IXS Trigger FF. It gets a bit hot for 90’s and above. I tend to use the Bell Super Air R for hitting flow jump trails above 90’s. However the IXS Trigger FF is my preferred helmet as it’s more robust than any other Enduro full face on the market, it’s comfortable, it vents well, multiple adjustments, it’s design to be used with googles and I love the chin strap.
    My only complaint would be 1 of the holes that is for attaching the rear strap is a bit to big so that part detaches when attempting to take the helmet off. I can always glue it but IXS provided me a replacement helmet.

    • @downtoridemtb
      @downtoridemtb  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I looked at the Bell Air R too. If I lived in an area that had extended slow climbs to get to fun downhills I would have gone with a detachable chin bar like that one. But since that’s not the case I’ll just suffer through the heat a couple months of the year or just wear the open face helmet on some of those occasions.

    Great review man, thank you for putting it together. I am interested in the IXS Trigger FF but the sizing has me a bit nervous, I am a 59cm head and some reviews have said that it was tight (s/m) at 58cm. I'll probably go with the M/L and hope for the best.

    Recently some broken branch that wasn't like all dried out got caught in my big holed, well ventilated helmet making some decent damage to EPS and scuffs to the shell. I thought what if it was direct hit to my skin? So you're not wrong by thinking about large vents this way. But equal danger even for 30yo and above is overheating and accidents due to "brain fatigue". I've experienced this twice within a year at 36yo and it's no fun to feel this way. Trying to push through this state would certainly be dangerous and could cause serious crash, so despite not being ideal, I prefer most and largest vents I can get. Thanks for thorough look at the helmets.

    • @downtoridemtb
      @downtoridemtb  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad that branch didn’t make its way through to your head! I never thought of fatigue from overheating and crashing. I do wish that Kali helmet fit better to have the better ventilation but overall I’m still happy with the IXS.

    • @downtoridemtb
      @downtoridemtb  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like it a lot so far. Only complaint I have so far and it’s minor and it only matters since I’m making videos.... I mounted my GoPro to the chin bar and something about the position or the vents picks up terrible wind noise from my breathing. Anyway for your sizing I think you’d probably be ok with either. If you have a wide jaw then maybe go for the bigger size. But for me even at about 57.5 I still have to click the adjustment dial a number of times.

    • @Dark__Thoughts
      @Dark__Thoughts 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@downtoridemtb You can get adhesive "plush" wind covers for microphones that you just stick over the holes. That should help with breath or air causing too much noise.

    I would be interested to know if you have any ideas regarding the comparison of the iXS Trigger FF with the 7iDP Project 23 ABS. While slightly heavier, the 7iDP is about $100 cheaper. I'm not doing any DH/shuttles or such, mostly just continuing to improve my techniques and can see myself needing a FF pretty soon as I improve. But, I'm in Texas, so weight and airflow (in addition to protection) are important to me. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
