Kali Invader 2.0 Versus IXS Trigger

  • A couple years ago I compared the Kali Invader helment and the IXS Trigger helmet. Both are lightweight full face mountain biking helmets. I came to the conclusion that the IXS Triger was better due to some fit and quality issues with the Kali Invader. Well Kali has released an updated version of the Invader and they sent me one to review. From what I can tell, it is vastly improved. The fit is better thanks to a dial adjustment system and the quality issues all seem to be fixed. In this video I'll go into a deep dive on all parts of this helmet compared to the IXS Trigger

    Thanks for the review I was asking about the Kali 2.0 on your previous review some months back. I actually decided to buy the helmet 2 months ago after finding a good deal and the comfort and fit has been amazing. My use case is ebike riding and wanted good full face protection for the speeds I'm going at and the breatability/comfort when I'm exercicing not using the ebike motor.

      Nice, glad you like it. Definitely worth it when it comes to protecting your head!

    I need to try that Kali Invader. I definitely need more ventilation as I ride in the desert most of the time. Thanks!🤘

      Oh yeah for desert riding you need that ventilation! Hope it works out for you.

      @chefgav1 yeah it was too big. I got rid of it. I think their safety tech is reliable though.

    Respecting the people who made this helmet by not throwing the bag and box and will benefit this video.
    Thank you for a revue

    Both of your reviews on these helmets have been great! I think that between the IXS and the Kali, we would both agree that the Kali is the best-ventilated and best-looking out of the box. However, like you my head is between sizes so the fit is not ideal. It feels a little loose without the larger-than-you-want cheek pads. I bought an Invader anyway and planned to just modify the pads and make it perfect. I did so but in the end I think it depends more than it should on the adjustable headband carrying the load and creating stability. Thus the band has to be tight! This band is thin and rides right behind your ears so its a factor if you plan to often wear glasses in lieu of goggles.
    Again you were spot on with your review about the Invader and although I have not worn the IXS I think I know why you ultimately lean toward it.

      Yep I agree with you… which I guess is also agreeing with myself too. Really wish the Invader fit like the Trigger. I don’t think you can really go wrong with either one though. Hope your customizations work out! Cheers!

      Hey so I figured out a really simple way to modify the adjustable headband such that it both makes the helmet fit perfectly and solves the issue of goggles only. Now my fav helmet out there!

    I’ve had an IXS for a few months now, I chose it over the Kali cause I ride in pretty dense woods and didn’t want twigs getting stuck in the holes as I pass trees. The IXS feels literally perfect for my head, no discomfort at all so far. When the time comes I think I’ll get a Kali for the replacement program.

    • @downtoridemtb
      @downtoridemtb  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I only ever thought about that possibly being an issue during a crash. But I guess if you’re having things deflect off your helmet while riding then it could also be a concern.

    visor adjustable ? sunglasses fit, on and off the head(can you store in the helmet ?) wind noise downhill?

    • @downtoridemtb
      @downtoridemtb  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good questions but I don’t have answers to all of them. Visor adjustable on the Kali but not on the IXS. I don’t ride with glasses so I don’t know about that. Wind noise isn’t a problem with the IXS. I still have ridden with the Kali to know because the IXS just fits me better.

    Got the IXS but the cheek pads are way too thin! I asked for thicker ones and they sent me the same size as the one I've head. So I guess they just come with one sizing of pads?
    It honestly makes mee feel a bit unsafe now I'm also riding park and I'm considering ditching the IXS and buying the Kali Invader. Do you feel the LDL and composite fusion from Kali would provide more safety than MIPS? It seems to me like it's still a very thin helmet and those little nobs really seem small...

    • @downtoridemtb
      @downtoridemtb  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I can’t really speak for MIPS vs LDL, but fit is probably more of a safety factor when comparing these two helmets. I thought my IXS came with multiple thickness cheek pads. I could be wrong though. If you search my channel, there is a video similar to this one from like 2 years prior where I compare the IXS to the Invader v1. Might be able to see from the unboxing what was inside mine, and therefore what should have been in yours.

    • @downtoridemtb
      @downtoridemtb  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Me personally, the IXS but only because it fits my head better. I’m at that unfortunate spot where I am between sizes on the Kali. If that wasn’t the case, and hopefully it isn’t the case for you, then I’d definitely go with the Kali.

      I don't even recall noticing it when I filmed the video, but it definitely looks that way. I never even wore it riding becuase it was just too big for me and seemed unsafe.

    4:25 Not liking the way it folds your ears over as if you're wearing a bucket. That's gotta be painful after an hour's ride.

    • @downtoridemtb

      You know what, I didn’t even notice it at the time. Definitely looks that way though. I only rode with it once because it was just too big for my head, but I don’t remember my ears being uncomfortable.
