    Hi Joep,
    Great informative videos and articles on your site. Helped me to understand a lot of betta genetics. Keep up the good work.
    Small dumb question why do you add salt to the tanks? There is lot of debate for and against the using of salt so this question came to my mind. It will be very helpful if you just explain it a bit.

    Joep, you remarked in a reply that bettas can resort to cannibalism and I wondered about that.
    I've seen it first hand now and my fry aren't quite 8 weeks old!
    Some of the bigger ones are exhibiting predatory behavior and at this point I can't even tell what sex they are. I guess that doesn't matter.
    I think I over feed them so I don't think it's hunger.
    Nature of the fish?

    • @BettaTerritory
      @BettaTerritory  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Too my experience this usually happens when there are big differences in size between the fry in a spawn. The larger fry in such case can eat the smaller ones. Dividing the fry over different tanks based on size can solve this problem and will stimulate a better development of the smaller fry.
      When a fish dies for another reason it usually will be eaten by the other fish the tank (usually starting with the stomach/eggs region).
      Hope this answers your question?

    Do you need to mature the water (complete nitrogen cycle) first before adding the fries?

    • @BettaTerritory
      @BettaTerritory  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Distort Armor I never cycle any of my betta tanks as I do not use live plants and perform large waterchanges every 2-3 days. Fry are usually added 24 hrs after installing the tank.

    when the time you transferred them are they now ready to eat some mosquito larvae?

    • @BettaTerritory
      @BettaTerritory  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, my fish usually then eat live tubifex worms, small granulate. Depending on the size of the fish you can always cut the live food into smaller pieces to make it easier for the fry.

    • @BettaTerritory

      In these tanks ~40-60 one month old fry is no problem, but when they get bigger the fry will be divided over multiple tanks to promote a bigger grow-out.

    • @tsitsu8345
      @tsitsu8345 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BettaTerritory I mean a tank like this is not cycled, so you must do frequent water changes. The betta fish are used to this, but won't it be a problem for other species?

    • @BettaTerritory
      @BettaTerritory  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tsi Tsu only have experience using the same methods guppies & endler hybrids, which both have no problems. I can imagine that this way is not suitable to species which are less able to adapt to a wide range of waterparameters.
