    I noticed you use Styrofoam for your bubble nest. Good idea but it has grooves between the cell that makes it hard to clean.
    I cut a 4" X 3" piece out of a freezer bag and use scotch tape to hold it an inch from the side. This allows me to see the eggs from above so I know when they hatch. Also, 3 days after the hatch, I can pull it out and wash iy in hot soapy water with a rag and have it ready for the next spawn.
    Not to say mine is better, it's not, other than being able to see the egg mass from the top. Got the idea from some Asian Betta breeders on youtube,, tried it out and liked it. Just a thought you might like to try.

    Hi Joep
    After watching your video for the million time. It's so superb informative and bad a** Lol.😊
    I have a few questions.
    0. Do u release the female the evening of the same day she was acclimatized in breeding setup?
    1. You mentioned that u set up tank 24 hours before adding pair. Is there a reason for you add leaves only when u add bettas as seen in video? Shouldn't leaves be left in tank 24hours to properly setup water at start?
    2. Do u feed the parents whilst breeding before or after and especially if they have fry?
    3. Have u anytime got egg eaters and how did u resolve it to get fry?
    4. Did u leave the female in tank after eggs were eaten to breed again with male?
    5. What's your recovery process/method for both parents after spawn and tending to fry and how soon after you breed them again?
    6. Have you lost any fry or females whilst still with the male ?
    7. How long do u keep fry in small tank before placing in growouts tanks?
    8. Do u add any water to increase depth of the breeding tank after removing father from freeswimming fry?
    9. What's dimensions of growout tanks?
    10. Do u cull smaller fry siblings to make room for faster developed ones?
    11. How long do u leave pair together if no spawning happens with first 3 days?
    Thank u in advance

      And these questions probably will be ask in here, before someone ask, i wanted to ask for them :D I can guess answers, im breeding too but probably these answers will help who is start to breeding recently :)
      When do you start to feed fry?
      How do you take female from the tank without damaging the nest?
      When last do you feed your pair before putting them into the breeding tank and do you feed them after putting them together?

    • @BettaTerritory
      @BettaTerritory  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I usually stop feeding when I put the pair in the breeding tank. Sometimes I do feed the male when he is taking care of eggs and fry.
      The female is taken out when the eggs are hatching. Usually she is in the back of the tank hiding. I usually take her out with a small net/scoop without any damage to the nest which is at the other side of the tank.
      I start feeding with vinegar eels and newly hatched BBS from the moment that the fry have entere the free-swimming stage (see 14:56 in the video).

    Dont think that it was mentioned, that the tank should be no more than 6 inches deep. It makes it easier for the Father's
    recovering of the egg.

    When you do transfer the fry to a grow out tank if you breed them in a smaller container? Do you leave them in the breeding tank for a week? Or two weeks before transfering?

    • @BettaTerritory

      Johnny lor I am moving fry to a bigger grow-out at 4-6 weeks of age, depending on spawn-size and growth. More on this can be viewed here: th-cam.com/video/w2SjJrkHjac/w-d-xo.html

    Hi do I necessiraly need to introduce the bettas?that is something I didn't do and they seem not interested in each other

    • @BettaTerritory
      @BettaTerritory  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tier Levi Khan Sorry to hear your spawn failed. The lack of introduction does not necessarily have to be the reason that the attempt failed. Keep in mind that there are many factors at play here (condition of the pair, waterquality, humidity, temperature, etc.). Keep in mind that there are many ways to breed these beautiful fish. Personally I always put the female in a chimney to give the male the chance to build his nest. Just recondition and give it another shot with a method you feel comfortable with in order to find out what works for you and your fish. Good luck!

    What are the brown leaves you added over the Eheim Fix? They look like Banana leaves. If so, what do they do?

    • @BettaTerritory
      @BettaTerritory  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Parrot Bill they indeed are banana leaves, like indian almond leaves they also shed tanins to the water. They also function as a hide-out for the female in my spawning tanks.

      @@BettaTerritory Way Cool! I have a bunch of Banana Trees growing in my yard. So far, I have been cutting and throwing the dead leaves away. Not anymore, I will be saving them from now on.
      Been using Magnolia leaves and just quit a few weeks ago. It seems they rot and drive up the nitrates. Thanks for letting me know about this. 👍😎

    • @parrotbill9072

      @@BettaTerritory I was looking up on TH-cam how to dry banana leaves, and found this video.
      th-cam.com/video/y9wKUO4mlPs/w-d-xo.html
      What a surprise, she did this experiment using a digital PH tester on 5 types of tannin leaves and found Bay Cedar producing the most stable PH, the next best is Almond leaves. But the most unstable leaves next to using nothing is the banana leaves.
      I have tried magnolia leaves myself and found them to be very unstable as well.
      Another name for the Bay Cedar is "Guazuma ulmifolia", I will start buying the Almond Leaves to use, until I can buy potted Bay Cedar to grow for myself. I found a nursery that sells seeds and they may ship them to you as well.
      www.tradewindsfruit.com/guazuma-ulmifolia-west-indian-elm-seeds?gclid=CjwKCAjwwvfrBRBIEiwA2nFiPZNIcDuKlh6XZpjeHzoyCI05JgmzHXSo9qzk8uUC0wmfOt4Vk5pNXBoCRpYQAvD_BwE

      @@BettaTerritory Oh boy, this Bay Cedar is a tree they also use in the lumber industry, also called West Indian Elm tree. Not a house plant. You can buy the seeds on eBay and Amazon, but where can you plant them? Guess I will be buying the tried and proven Almond leaves. Sometimes my research takes me on a wild goose chase. Nut anyway we know which works the best from that girl's video.

    What is the Ehiem fix material? Why is this added for breeding?

    • @BettaTerritory
      @BettaTerritory  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dad dd Eheim Fix normally is used in mechanical filters. In my tanks it does not have a filter function. I use it in my spawning and grow-out tanks as hide-out for the fish. Showguppy breeders also regularly use this material when a female needs to drop fry in order to prevent them from being eaten. I hope this answers your question? Thank you for watching.

    What happens to the eggs shells?..Do the fry absorb it or does the father eat them?

    • @BettaTerritory
      @BettaTerritory  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No idea to be honest. Never found any remnants, so I think that they are eaten by the father.

    How many gallons is that tank? When compared to the size of the fish, it looks very small! I didn't know bettas could be bred in such a small environment.

    • @BettaTerritory
      @BettaTerritory  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ShipwreckedPuffNs I use a 40 x 25 x 25 cm tank which can hold 25L as spawning tank. This is equivalent to a 6 US Gallon tank.

    So my Bettas are in the tank together at the moment it's almost been 24 hours and still no spawn, he's sitting under the nest but keeps chasing her when she comes out of hiding, how long should I let them go until it's clear their not going to spawn?

    • @BettaTerritory
      @BettaTerritory  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Conq Sometimes it will take a while before they spawn. When there is no serious damage and chasing I would leave them together for a while. I personally split the pair up when they did not spawn 2-3 days after the release. Good luck and Please keep us posted.

    • @BettaTerritory
      @BettaTerritory  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Conq Conq sorry to hear it did not work out yet. How are the fish doing? Is there any damage? When both fish are still in good physical condition with no to minimal damage I would recommend to condition for 1-2 weeks for a next attempt. When there is damage I would give them a bit more time to recover.
