      Fantastic idea. I have like 20 of the large breeder boxes. I was going to use them as bio, with guppy grass to keep my nitrates low. I lost my little screen gates. The sponge idea is awesome.
      Let me check the links for sponge, pump,and 1/4" reducer.
      Keep up the great advice Jason!!

    Something I’ve been looking into recently is aquaponics. So essentially, the rain gutter sections could hold plants that will utilize the nitrates and other nutrients produced by the fish waste, and reduce maintenance and water changes for your fry as well. I really like your idea. Thanks for sharing!!!

  • @ONEFUNFONE

    I would add a piece of 1" foam under the 20L so you're not running the heater constantly- tanks on concrete floors soak up all that cold air and can be hard to regulate.

    • @JadrenAquatics

    I've made a similar system before. One thing to be very careful of is the sponges clogging due to how small the outlets on the fry boxes are. I used a plastic canvas mesh that id cut fractionally more holes into (as in cut away the plastic between holes with a pair of scissors and obviously depending on the size of the fry) as I found sponges clogged too fast. Even then id still be cleaning the canvas mesh regularly
    I'd recommend putting some sponge or plastic mesh In the gutters before the bulkhead to catch any fry incase of an accidental overflow.

    • @JadrenAquatics
      @JadrenAquatics  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea and with my laziness clogging is a given lol

      Good advice.
      What about stainless steel screen or mesh?
      Lots of screen sizes you can find in the kitchen section of $-stores. (drain covers, sieves, colanders)

    I feel like it would be 1/10 the price of you put some 1/8” or 1/4” bulkhead barbed fittings in the side of tall deli cups and used that as your overflow.

    My Guppies have never eaten their fry, even when I had the males and females together. Drives me crazy because I have to cull out what I don't want. And I didn't realize the females could or would hold their fry internally for more than a month. INSANE. I do have my males separated now and the females too, because I want to pick who I want to breed to see what I get. I will never become a full time breeder for Guppies or any other kind of fish. My Cory's bred like crazy last year and I ended up with a couple of surprises even though I was pulling the eggs.
