- This 1970 Chrysler Valiant Pacer has most definitely seen better days. Nicknamed the “HMAS Pacer” by the Valigrunt team as she has that much rust she could have been in the Navy and her owner is a retired Navy man.
Big Al, our #1 apprentice, is running point on this project and it is his first full restoration build. So far he has done fantastic work repairing the rust in the RH rear of this car and he runs through the steps he has done so far and what he plans to do next.
Stay tuned for more updates on this build and if you are a fan of Rides Down Under Workshop Wars we will be featuring this build in Season 8.
Big shout out to Hare and Forbes Machinery House for sponsoring Big Al, #1 apprentice, throughout his apprenticeship as a Coach Builder.

Good stuff. Fantastic to see a young bloke in charge of this huge project. I look forward to future updates.
For a Valiant, that's rust free.
It's great to see the young fella with a passion, obviously past down from Dad and Mum. I'm guessing by the rust in the rear one of the past owner's used to like to go fishing and drop his boat in the salty water. 🤷🏼♂️
Kids are a testimony to their parents. Looks like you've done a great job with your son there, you can be proud.
Young bloke definitely has great skills and taught by the best. Its a dying trade now , no one can do this work these days due to the junk modern cars. Keep showing us the amazing work hes doing.
good to see a great job being done to an awesome classic. would luv to find another to rebuild as i had to sell the first one i rebuilt.
Top job Mum.👍
Had a mustard 4 door Pacer in the early 80s with the strip over the boot it had factory black roof lining plus the electric horns the gear lever had the factory R/T 3 speed gear nob and 4 barrel VG Pacer 6 inch rims of a wreck ☹️sold in Tamworth NSW about 83 ☹️went like hell 3.5 diff 265 Carter 2 barrel original twin pipes of the motor rear sway bar the rear a bit lower then the front handle like a dream put many brand X to shame 👍🏻 had a factory 4 speed VH Pacer at the same time and a blue VF Pacer .
Good watch, you go mate
Pacer Black Tombstone Bucket Seats were great in My AP6 Slant Beast, so I have helped with VF's being wrecked for Parts, Nice to see somebody fixing 1 ...
Well done young man. You are a proud mum yes ? Great video. Thanks for posting. 👍🥃🇦🇺
Yes I am!
Good job mate when I got my pacer in 86 it was that bad it was the car that got me in the panel trade I still have the pacer Il keep an eye out for a quarter not easy cars to get straight sometimes I've pulled quarters of and chemical stripped and rebuilt from the good metal
Thanks for looking but we managed to find a NOS panel off a Wagon last week which we can modify to fit. Happy days 😀
Cool 😊
Forgot to ask…… you and hubby were Cb,ers in the day. ! Wonder if we have ever spoken way back when ? (Cobra ) from east Keillor in nth west melb.
We were Chevhead and Wildchild from South East Suburbs. Maybe when we were cruising up and down the highway on the weekend and doing Chapel laps.
@@ValigruntPerformance yep. I do remember wild child. ! Lmao 🤣 good old days eh ? 👍🥃
Jeez Mate u r in one hella privileged position. Me, T/Ville , 80s. About 5 Valiant ppl in that little S/Hole back when everyone laughed at Vals . Ross Bullimore was the only man for fast bits and life was fun . Ehjoy. Ya folks might kno Ross? .
Don't know Ross off the top of our heads, but T/Ville is the opposite end of OZ for us.
@@ValigruntPerformance ah Cheers. i thought u were Toowoomba ppl. New Subs for ya's anyway.
