We need a study on the ball brothers bones
Facts tho
Could be genetic
complete speculation but i know certain avenues of height enhancement can lead to bone issues
@fadethechannel that would be crazy cause ant lavar a professional football player
Yea both of them have a bone problem right now 💀
I think he’s never given himself time to properly heal from his injuries. Even in his rookie season when he injured his wrist he rushed back from that injury. Then, this season he’s already had 3 ankle injuries prior to this ankle fracture, so I think his ankle was already weakened.
I thought it was his other ankle he kept injuring
@Dr. Dead yeah it was his left
Right, then you got Brandon Ingram missing 2 months with a sore toe... Lol
@Dominion!!!We Dominate the Vote!! yea but non injured ankle supports more than normal because your other ankle can't support what it needs to.
@BraYsUnc Thats a possibility I thought of too. Lamelo is so good, he makes the game look effortless, im so upset right now but Im hoping it's just a blip in his astonishing career , he was just starting to get in his breakout season groove too
Wish him a speedy, and full recovery. He's definitely fun to watch, and part of the future of the NBA. I was hoping to watch him play against the Suns on Wednesday. It'll have to wait next season. Godspeed!
Yeah every nba decade there is alot of what if stories the ball brothers and maybe zion will become a what if story it's looking that way every single time now poor Jordan his hornets can't catch a break, happened in the 2010s, 00s, 90s, and 80s.
Nba? This is the g league
@Conor Khabib Brunsonsince when are allstars in the g league?
@dealingwithit g league all stars are in the g league.
Hi Doc! Since you've been covering NBA players injury recently, can you also explain what happened to DeAngelo Russell and his weird ankle injury that happened a few days ago? It didn't seem all that serious looking at the video but I'm sure it's more serious than it looks. Thanks! 😁
He sucks. Injuries part of it.
No one wants a video about dangelo Ratsell.
He just rolled it
@Chiggsy he definitely does not suck and is an above average pg
Go Hornets ! It’s been a rough one for us injury wise. Thanks for the information Doctor !
Great review, dig your work. I don’t believe it was the step before as that is a common misdirection step used prior to crossing over. What I saw was a lack of leg strength through the crossover that made it difficult for him to pick up his knees, causing his plant foot to land prematurely while is upper body was over the foot (vs. inside, for leverage during crossover). This resulted in a realtime athletic adjustment to overcompensate from the ground up, causing the injury in the foot at the the weakest link.
Man you get these out fast. Thank you for the information! Hope he gets better soon.
I had an avulsion fracture on the anterior talofibular ligament similar to what Dr. Brian described about the inversion mechanism. Wasn't fun but could have been worse and I sure aint got a basketball franchise supporting my recovery. Mine a was a contact injury tho, and being the other side it is different but hopefully Lamelo can recover completely and quickly.
First Lonzo now Lamelo... prayers for them both
Why pray? It happened therefore it is in all mighty gods plan... Do you think he will change it only for you? Kinda cocky don't you think?
@Gašper calm down
@Gašperidk if you believe in God but damar Hamlin healed pretty fast because the entire NFL and football community prayed for him every day he healed faster because we prayed for him we kept him in our thoughts you need to relax
@Gašper I pray that they both get healthy and can get back to how they were playing pre injury.. you never know how things turn out after an injury.
It's crazy how many injuries I hear about first from Dr Sutterer on TH-cam rather than ESPN
Agreed, They just can’t break it down like the doc can 🤷🏾
💯
Dang, when I saw the video I thought it was a calf injury too. This really sucks for LaMelo, he's a promising young player but we've all seen what reoccurring injuries can do to young players. People will be quick to point out Steph's ankle issues early in his career but he's an outlier, most players don't bounce back like that from early career injuries.
Dr. Sutterer I'm curious what your thoughts are on the increase of the grip of these new shoes vs old shoes(before 2000"s) has on what I believe to be more ankle or foot injuries. Or just the general new shoe technology and what different impacts they may have, good or bad, thanks.
Bro, I honestly think basketball ball sneakers today are just too low. The most mids dont have support for
1.5 -2 inches below the ankle. Melo's sneakers weren't fully wrapped around his upper ankle so when he planted with his inner foot the upper right of the ankle was not supported so it was allowed to move to compensate and wala..ankle ligament injury. Just my thoughts...
I think you are right. I think he break his ankle the step before and feel the pain as soon as he put pressure on it again, with the second step. Thank you doc!
Bone: breaks
Nerves: fire
Brain: experiences pain
Brian: uploads video
All within milliseconds
Good evening Dr. I was wondering if you could make a video on how your supposed to plant for a cut in a sports context? I always thought you were supposed to plant on the inside of of you feed from a cut because it prevents rolling of your ankle as the weight your weight will naturally be moved to the middle of your foot once you begin pushing off of it
As always, love your videos and how educational they are. Thank you sir for sharing!!
Great video Doc. Very informative and entertaining💯
Can I go a week without one of my stars in fantasy basketball getting hurt. Hoping for a quick recovery for LaMelo but he's definitely out the rest of the year so the Hornets can tank
Should have drafted Haliburton bro. 🤣
Crazy how much people care bout there fantasy team
Is it possible it’s a stress fracture? I had a stress fracture in my ankle while running two years ago and they’re mostly caused by overworking through exercise. Could it be overworking the ankle especially in the way Melo plays? Just throwing that out there and also pretty curious.
ThTs what I think it may be too and finally the right cut angle is what flared the pain up instantly
This
I will missed Lamelo Ball every game highlights and ball facts episodes 😔
I actually broke my ankle in a very similar way. I was playing football and just did like a normal break whit out any kind of twisting. i had the avulsion fracture on my medial malleoid.
Surgery needed? If so how did they do it?
Just a cast for 6 weeks and some rehab.
I heard that Lonzo had been working out and playing basketball from a VERY young age. To the point where he had his own weight lifting routine and more and that could be a possible cause for all the lower body injuries. Could the same case apply to Lamelo?
Again, I vaguely remember hearing about this so I could be wrong
You are right about the weights.
Lavar used to train local athletes in his garage. Weights. Outside was pull-ups and run hills.
These are some of the best presentations of a somewhat creepy subject. You'd rather they didn't have to be made, but I guess that's just the nature of sports. Things go snap.
To me it looks like there was a move just prior to where this starts with the toe of Mr. Ball's right shoe getting stuck on the parquet resulting some sort of hyper-extension. His foot gets pinned under his leg for a split-second and then he comes back down and winces in pain.
(I can only look at these injury videos a couple of times, because I get a queasy sensation and have to go back to cleaning the skeletons out of my closets.)
are u ok
I think it happened on his initial move behind his back. He was on his toes when he made the move to go back right.. causing pressure on the inside and top of his foot.
Damn, hope for a speedy recovery. Melo and Zo are both injured now
They pretty much always both injured
I think basketball players have it the hardest in terms of their playing surface. Baseball, football, soccer all play on grass or soft turf and don't play as much. Baseball players aren't running very much, mostly standing during a game. Soccer players don't play every other day, season is much shorter and football games are once a week. Hockey players are on ice, but they are sliding around, not jumping. Basketball has got to be the worst for ankle injuries. Players need more rest.
bro said hockey 💀
Every sport has its own worries. Like you said ankles and feet in basketball, Football is knees and feet, baseball it's the arms, hockey probably the head area, and I say soccer probably have them all.
Except when they played more there were less injuries...
Ive been searching for what he actually broke and cant find anything. Anyone have an update? I like your explanation @BrianSuttererMD I was also wondering if it wasnt a stress fracture on the fibula. Any updates would be wicked!!!
Not Melo😞
Bruh, you're so awesome at these....Dope content!!! Hope all is well w LaMelo.
Hopefully he can avoid surgery 🙏 best wishes to melo
The Ball Brothers have proven all that hard work got them to the show but... the body couldn't handle having years of work packed into every month.
I remember people clowning russ for faking his ankle injury vs the 76ers in playoffs, but then seeing melo break his ankle doing just dribbles is crazy 😂
Can you do one on gavin lux from the dodgers please 🙏
I had the same injury. He’s out until for the rest of the season.
I know how that feels ( not a ankle) but I had that happen to a bone in my toe
At least me training a decade plus a fitness instructor taught me something. The second i saw the video after hearing it was a break, I said to myself "so he ripped a piece of bone off".
The hornets med staff needs to make sure their golden goose doesnt go out sad.. prayers for melo #rare1
Poor guy 😞
Can you do a video on Gavin Lux from the Dodgers!? I’m really curious on what you think on his hyper extension of the knee/ankle
He’s been having ankle issues all year and it was probably severely weak. Plus the minutes he’s been playing just added to it.
avulsion fracture not a stress fracture
Maybe one day players will understand there was a reason players of the past taped their ankles. Along with wearing mid or high tops to support the ankle as well. ... At this rate they will end up playing in slides one day and not understand why their ankles break. 🤦
Absolutely love your stuff! Could I suggest possibly doing something to lower the sound of your mouse click? Once I heard it I couldn’t stop hearing it - want to be super focused getting all of your analysis! Appreciate you
Wish a speedy recovery
At this point, it can't be a coincidence that all 3 Ball boys have had some type of lower body injuries that took them out for a while. Idk if it was the backyard workouts on concrete, lifting weights too early on or the BBB shoes but there's gotta be something
I'm leaning towards constantly working out on concrete when they were young. Doing that wrecks havoc on the knees and ankles in the long run
@MakerWhy come on, you know how many nba players played all day on concrete ?? Lol stop it both of you
Melo wears the puma shoes, not his father's brand
@SportsCardsForInvestments Not every player is built the same. You cannot simply deduct the possibility that concrete played a role in the injuries both ball brothers are facing today. That would be foolish
@MakerWhy an avulsion fracture is not a stress fracture
You can definitely see it pop when you are doing the slow motion, the ball of his ankle clearly pops in and out
Guess that's a no on covering the Gavin Lux injury today for the Dodgers. That's a bummer, would have loved to know what you thought.
That's scary to get an injury like that from virtually nothing. He can't catch a break
So unfortunate. Man, the Ball brothers are cursed. 😢
yup they can thank their dad for the jinx he put on their careers
I believe grant hill suffered a similar fracture early in his career. Luckily he was able to rejuvenate his trajectory and have a 15 year nba career. Get well soon melo 🤞🏼
If you watch the full video you can see Lamelo mouth to the Hornets trainer "I popped it, I popped it". Given what Dr. Sutterer is saying happened to his ankle, Lamelo saying that makes complete sense.
He was just so unlucky this season every time he got hurt it’s some crazy ass play like wtf
The Ball brothers are breaking my heart.
How do u build up a presentation so fast after all these injuries.
Something about being a shooting point guard takes a toll on the ankles.
Great information..love this channel..thanks very much \m/
I was wondering if his previous ankle injuries were connected, even though his previous ankle injuries were all on his left ankle.
As a hornets fan I am ded inside
can you do D’angelo Russell’s injury he rolled his ankle ina different way called inversion you should check it out!
I think there should be a more of a focus on modern basketball shoes, all the cushion and high heel drops are weakening the foot anatomy, narrow toe boxes squishing the toes also doesn’t help.
Doc, do you think he planted so hard that he cracked it from the tension?
Would it be safe to say Melo should be wearing ankle braces when he comes back. Isn't the ankle more susceptible to roll for 1-2years after surgery/constant ankle injuries. I know I tore ligaments and it took 2-3 years for my ankle to stop randomly rolling over n over.
Personally I thought the injury occured a couple seconds before the clip you showed. The clip you showed was the next time he put weight on the ankle and noticed the injury
Surprised ESPN or NBA team hasn't hired this dude!!
All of these injuries to the ball boys is due to their dad making them work out and play from a YOUNG age. They have the joints of 40 year olds.
Damn all that backyard training non stop from the age of 4 is catching up to them
it was either a broken ankle or a torn achilles. His right feet was flat on the ground.
He needs better hips. Stronger more flexible hips will keep his feet in the right position to avoid these lower extremity injuries
Bro. Just before this he twisted his foot. That’s when he hurt it. When he stepped back to plant is when he realized it was bad.
😲 Poor Lemelo DUDE IS DANCING GIGING & MANUVERING WITH THE BALL & TWISTED THE WRONG WAY WOW
😔 I HOPE HE HAS A SWIFT RECOVERY 🙏
Damn they was weird but Hornets wasn't going nowhere heal up and recruit help Melo! good content👍🤙
It's shame ZO & Melo talented players but they can't catch a break with those leg & ankle injuries. But hopefully Melo bounce back strong, he is still so Young but can't catch a break with those ankle injuries.
What's up Doc!?! Can u give the LA Dodgers "Gavin Lux's" knee injury that happened today a look???
Love your content. For the algorithm. I learned something.
Why do I feel like shoes have a potential fault here. We rarely had injuries like these a few years ago. But that's just me.
U be right on it Doc
Damn. This is crazy.
The NBA need a 16 game season like the NFL.
Can you follow up on brons injury. Thanks
Damn what's with the Ball brothers and their nonstop injuries? Lonzo's career might be over at such a young age and now Lamelo getting nonstop injuries.
i had an avulsion fracture on my right hand middle finger about 8 years ago, had to get 2 pins and a rod in the finger for a few months not fun. Finger is fine now but it does hurt when it gets cold out pretty sure its arthritic
Watching that, my first thought was that it was his left ankle
Brian's ears are red from laughing his butt off trying to find "The Mechanism" here
Edit: The Mechanism is this: Hardwood floor touches softbone foot.
This is all Lavar's fault, he challenged Karma one time too many
He prolly was sore ,I tend to hurt my bones more when my muscles are sore
He needs a stronger and balanced base. Core, hammys, quads, calves and hip flexors are key…melo doesn’t look like he lifts. Everything in our lower body works in alignment, if the ankles are weak the next thing to go will be the knees or calf(achilles). You’re seeing more hamstring injuries in the nba bc the quads and hammys aren’t balanced and the core is weak. I ran track at a high level…these guys need to LIFT WEIGHTS and squat!!
I wonder if these athletes are injuring their ankle/foot from overuse, or poorly fitting shoes?
Lamello gotta stop skipping leg day. 😂
Hi brian any adivice on this information that i have about my ankle Clinical history: Chronic right heel and ankle pain.
Findings:
Soft tissues:
Edema in the subcutaneous fat around the medial and lateral ankle reflective of
a nonspecific cellulitis.
Bones:
The ankle mortise is in anatomic alignment. No fractures are identified.
Abnormal bone marrow edema seen at the talar dome and, medial malleolus and
posterior malleolus concerning for osseous contusion. Focal loss of articular
cartilage at the lateral talar dome seen on coronal image 17-18 with slight
flattening of the articular surface, ikely representing an osteochondral
injury. Large ankle joint effusion. Posterior subtalar joint effusion.
Tendons:
The Achilles tendon has a normal appearance.
The posterior tibialis tendon, flexor digitorum tendon and flexor hallucis
longus tendons do not demonstrate tenosynovitisor tear.
Moderate tenosynovitis of the peroneal tendons without tear.
The anterior extensor tendons have a normal appearance.
Ligaments:
Anterior syndesmotic ligament is torn.
Anterior talofibular ligament is torn.
Calcaneofibular ligament is torn.
Posterior syndesmotic ligament and PTFL are not torn. '
The calcaneofibular ligament is not torn.
The deep deltoid ligament is not torn.
The tibiospring ligament is not identified and likely torn..
Other:
Abnormal thickening to the medial band of the plantar fascia consistent with a
severe plantar fasciitis.
The sinus Tarsi demonstrates normal fat without focal lesion or cyst.
The tarsal tunnel does not demonstrate any space occupying lesions.
Impression:
1. Abnormal bone marrow edema involving the talar dome, medial malleolus and
lateral malleolus likely representing osseous contusion. Probable small
osteochondral lesion at the lateral talar dome. Large joint effusion
2. Tear of the anterior syndesmotic ligament, anterior talofibular ligament and
calcaneofibular ligament. Tibial spring ligament on the medial side is not
identified and is likely torn also.
3. No tendon tear. Moderate tenosynovitis of the peroneal tendons.
4. Severe plantar fasciitis. Any advice ?
Everyone looking at the ankle and all I see is him double dribbling. He's cupping that ball so bad definitely making multiple contact points
Seems to me Doc has his own tv crews on all games and the ball brothers are like AD so Fragile
That was an ankle-breaker move.
could you do one on ben simmons he recently had a prp injection and fluid drained from his knee
Melo needs to call Steph's medical team.
The Ball brothers have been over trained too young and too quick, their didn't have a real chance to grow and develop, making them prone to injuries. They were training like pros in Highschool. It shows dedication, but show career longevity.
Before realizing both the Ball brothers are injured, I was going to joke they have weak ankles from their dad holding up their career but it might be the case.
That’s those overzealous at home dad workouts catching up to those boys
I've rolled my ankle, inversion type. And now the Talus bone is sticking out. Any idea how I remedy this? Ankle is fine, just don't have full ROM.
Same, my sis told me it is pretty normal if you roll ankle alot.
And just like that my fantasy season is OVAH!
A non-contact fracture? I thought we were discussing AD
lamello one of the very few to break his own ankle in a dribble
These Ball Brothers are so injury prone. It's a shame because they have talent.
