    Spinach! Happy Holidays and thank you for such informative content! One thing I wanted to ask about was for those who are currently taking the master's route, but still have limited exposure and experience to the analytics field: under the projects section, would it be helpful to mention a few assignments done throughout the semester where we utilized languages or tools such as python, R, or tableau and wrote a research paper on them? Or are recruiters solely looking for independent projects in this section?

    • @AlexTheAnalyst
      @AlexTheAnalyst  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn't label it as coursework. If you did the work and it's a project I would just label it a project. That way there is not room for confusion on the hiring manager's side. If they ask about it you can talk about how it was a project for school and talk about how you worked through the problem using xyz tools.

    Hi Alex, I have a question. I’m definitely making the switch from healthcare to an IT career this year and wanted to use Data Analysis as an entry. Would you advise against taking a DA diploma as opposed to being self taught instead? What are the pros and cons of both? I plan on getting a masters in the field later on in order to solidify my position in it so maybe the prerequisites I take in the diploma would aid my future application as opposed to being self taught.

    Merry Christmas, Alex! Thank you for your honest opinions. I really appreciate it. For some evil reasons, I worked as entry-level data roles in finance, marketing, research, and manufacturing for 5 years, after obtaining BS in mathematics. Then I became the only "data scientist" in the R&D team of an IT startup, modelling and mining big data in collaboration with software developers and telecommunications engineers. I realize data scientist is vaguely defined and definitely not an entry-level job, so I'm doing a MS in computer science to fill the technical gap. Could you please give me some advice on how to shape my experience on resume, since I think the path from data analyst to data scientist fits me best? Thanks again!

    • @AlexTheAnalyst
      @AlexTheAnalyst  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's hard to give specific feedback without seeing your resume in front of me or talking to you, but it sounds like you've got some great experience! I would just focus on highlighting skills that overlap between both positions (if that's general enough lol)

    • @arielleung3917
      @arielleung3917 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AlexTheAnalyst haha Thank you! My question was too general, I know. Well, the thing is I'm kinda somewhere in between right-out-of-school and switching-career. My experience in modeling is somewhat repetitive although the employers probably expect more from my age, and all my experience with machine learning & Python are the course projects of this master programme. So should I list all my working experience as data analyst? Would it look bad to have changed jobs often? Is it childish to relate most of the skills a data scientist position asks for to course projects in school? Do you know anyone switching from data analyst to data scientist that we can learn from? Oh I already feel sorry to bother you with these tedious questions in the holiday atmosphere...

    Hey Alex, I'm doing an IBM data analyst professional certificate.
    Is this certificate help me to get into an entry-level data analyst job?

    • @AlexTheAnalyst
      @AlexTheAnalyst  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I definitely think it's worth getting as it can't really hurt. I don't know if it'll play a huge part in you getting a job, but it does help having it on your resume.

      Business Analytics is probably the closest. You can also do math based degrees like statistics.

      @@AlexTheAnalyst That would be great. I was thinking, you could show resume for every position of a data analyst. Like, show how an entry-level data analyst without any experience should make their resume, how a mid-level/senior-level data analyst should make their resume. I'm sure with your experience, it would help a lot of young jobseekers.
      It all depends on you. Besides, I love your channel. Great data analytics content.
      Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!!
